In the spring 2017, she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and had been quoted survival rates as low as 3 percent. On December 21, 2017, after months of painful radiation and chemotherapy treatments, it was found out that all signs of her cancer, which had spread throughout her chest and back, had disappeared. The radiation had made it almost impossible for Ami to eat anything, and she had gotten down to a life-threatening 77 lbs but later she gain weight back.

Mother of seven, five sons and two daughters, with former husband Bill Brown. They are Matt Brown (Matthew Jeremiah Brown; b. September 7, 1982), Joshua Bam Bam Brown (b. September 18, 1984), Bear Brown (Solomon Isaiah Freedom Brown; b. June 10, 1987), Gabe Brown (Gabriel Starbuck Brown; b. December 15, 1989), Noah Brown (Noah Darkcloud Brown; b. July 18, 1992), Snowbird Brown (Amora Jean Snowbird Brown; November 18, 1994) and Rain Brown (Merry Christmas Kathryn Raindrop Brown; b. November 23, 2002).

(February 8, 2019) Expecting her first grandchild through her youngest son, Noah Brown, and his wife of almost six months, Rhain Brown, are preparing to welcome their first child in late spring.

Has a criminal history of welfare fraud.
