Tashkent (Uzbekistan), May 1 (Ians) India’s experienced campaigner and 2022 Asian Championships bronze medallist Mohammad Hussamuddin put up a dazzling display as he a winning start in the Iba Men’s World Boxing Championships 2023, starting in style by registering a stellar victory in the first round on Monday.

In the 60kg category, Varinder Singh went down fighting against Mujibillo Tursunov of Uzbekistan and exited the competition after suffering a 0-5 defeat.

Playing from the Red corner, the two-time Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Hussamuddin (57kg) made lightwork of Maced’nia’s Alen Rustemovski in the opening round with a dominating 5-0 win.

The Telangana-born pugilist made a cautious start to the bout but shifted gears superbly to assert his dominance over the Macedonian. Making use of his strength and high technical ability, Hussamuddin was able to land punches accurately and secure the victory with a unanimous decision.

Tashkent (Uzbekistan), May 1 (Ians) Experienced campaigner and 2022 Asian Championships bronze medallist Mohammed Hussamuddin made a winning start in the Iba Men’s World Boxing Championships 2023 with a comprehensive win in the first round on Monday.

Hussamuddin, the two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, got the better of Alen Rustemovski of Macedonia in the opening round of the 57kg category, winning a unanimous 5-0 verdict in the Uzbekistan capital on Monday.

Boxing from the Red corner, Hussamuddin dominated the bout against Rustemovski in the first round and was the choice of all the judges as he won a unanimous verdict.

In the next round, Hussamuddin will take on the winner of the Lyu Pengyuan of China and Amzolele Dyeyi of South Africa.

In Monday’s other matches, India’s Varinder Singh will go up against Mujibillo Tursunov of Uzbekistan in the 60kg preliminary round.

Indian men's boxing contingent left for Tashkent; to participate in multi-nation training camp ahead of Worlds

New Delhi, April 17 (Ians) Indian men’s boxing contingent left for Tashkent, Uzbekistan in the early hours of Monday to participate in a 12 day long multi-nation training camp prior to the 2023 Iba men’s World Championships which is scheduled to be held in Tashkent from April 30- May 14.

Six-time Asian Championships medallist Shiva Thapa and 2019 Asian Championships silver medallist Deepak Bhoria will headline the Indian squad for the showpiece event.

The Tashkent Championships have already seen a registration of around 640 boxers from 104 countries including that of seven defending World Champions like Sofiane Oumiha from France, Japan’s Tomoya Tsuboi and Sewonrets Okazawa, Loren Alfonso from Azerbaijan, Saken Bibossinov from Kazakhstan and Cuba’s Yoenlis Hernandez Martinez and Julio La Cruz.

The gold medalists will walk away with a prize money of Usd 200,000.The silver medallists are to be given Usd 100,000, and both bronze-medallists will be awarded Usd 50,000 each.
