7 Stephen King Stories That Should Be Adapted Next
Image
It’s hard to imagine a year going by without one of Stephen King’s horror stories being adapted for the big or small screen.

Some of those adaptations have gone on to be some of the most recognizable movies around – films like “The Shining,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” and “The Green Mile” to name a few – but a disturbing trend lately is circling back to certain stories for new attempts at adapting.

“It” got split into two movies at the end of the 2010s, “Pet Semetary” has had multiple films, “The Stand” has received multiple limited series adaptations, and now “Salem’s Lot” has been done for the third time. It’s time for something new.

King is one of the most prolific American writers to live. He’s penned more than 65 novels, to say nothing of the countless short stories. There’s a gold mine of horror, sci-fi and everything...

The Stephen King Adaptation Mike Flanagan Regrets Not Directing
Image
Mike Flanagan has cemented himself as one of horror's truly great modern storytellers. From his miniseries on Netflix like "The Haunting of Hill House" to underrated gems such as "Hush," the man has earned the trust of viewers. He's also earned the trust of Stephen King, as Flanagan has made two movies based on the author's work; "Gerald's Game" and "Doctor Sleep." In both of those cases, the material was incredibly difficult to adapt, yet Flanagan got it done. While the filmmaker isn't through with King, there is a project that he wishes hadn't gotten away from him.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about his new King adaptation "The Life of Chuck," Flanagan was asked if there was a project that he felt was "the one that got away." He was quick to cite his planned adaptation of King's 2014 novel "Revival," which he wrote a script for before the project ultimately fell apart.

I Can't Believe This Underrated Stephen King Book Still Hasn't Been Adapted
Image
While Stephen King adaptations have enjoyed a new resurgence in popularity in recent years, there's still one underrated book of his, Revival, that I can't believe hasn't been turned into a movie or TV show by now. Revival tells a story over years of a man named Jamie Morton, from childhood to adulthood, and the various run-ins he has with a charismatic and dangerous revival Methodist minister named Charles Jacobs, who is as much a mad scientist as he is a man of the cloth and hawker of religion.

Stephen King's Revival is truly haunting, with an ending about as bleak and memorable as anything I've read in one of his books. As with a few of King's books, there's an underlying thematic exploration of addiction and substance abuse, but also the madness of grief, of scientific exploration driven by fanaticism, and questions about what happens when we die. There's...

"The Project That Got Away": Mike Flanagan Emotionally Reflects On Scrapped Stephen King Adaptation
Image
Mike Flanagan mourns the cancellation of the Revival adaptation, calling it the "project that got away" due to its dark script and Doctor Sleep's box office underperformance. Despite previous failed attempts, now may be the perfect time for Flanagan's adaptation due to his success with King adaptations. Studio support for the dark ending of King's book may be a hurdle, but with current interest in Lovecraftian horror, a Revival adaptation could still happen.

Though his work continues on other adaptations of the author's bibliography, Mike Flanagan has some emotional thoughts on the Revival adaptation's cancellation. King's 2014 novel followed the life stories of Charles Jacobs and Jamie Morton, the former of whom starts the book as a priest who devolves into a man obsessed with experiments involving electrical healing, while the latter begins as a young boy fascinated by his abilities who frequently becomes entangled in Jacobs' new experiments. Multiple...

This Underrated Stephen King Story Desperately Needs an Adaptation
Image
Stephen King's Revival is a dense and thematically rich novel that spans decades, making it exciting but also costly to adapt. Talented filmmakers like Josh Boone and Mike Flanagan have attempted to bring Revival to the screen but faced financial hurdles. One of King's newer (and less-heralded) novels, Revival remains unadapted due to the challenge of capturing its intense Lovecraftian visuals.

When it comes to adaptations, perhaps no other author has had quite as many as the legendary shock-master Stephen King. The overall quality of King's adaptations has been up and down over the years, but lately, it seems as if we're on a hot streak with the likes of It, Mr. Mercedes, and Doctor Sleep, to name a few.

Of course, those are just the tip of the iceberg regarding Stephen King adaptations that are currently in development. Longtime fans of King's work should keep their eyes peeled...

The Best Podcasts Like My Dad Wrote a Porno
Image
Thank goodness that when Jamie Morton discovered his dad had started writing embarrassingly bad erotica, he decided to share it with the world. This resulted in My Dad Wrote a Porno, a weekly podcast series in which he read a chapter of his father’s steamy Belinda Blinked novels aloud, capturing the hilarious reactions of his friends Alice Levine and James Cooper.

When it began in 2015, the podcast renaissance was only just beginning, and you could argue that My Dad Wrote a Porno’s runaway success – sparking world tours, a HBO special, and a whopping 430 million downloads – had a hand in bringing the podcasting industry to its current dizzying heights.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and after six wild seasons the show released its final episode in December 2022. For some, it remains unbeatable, but here are some excellent – and often equally cringey – comedy podcasts to fill...

Baffling smut: How My Dad Wrote a Porno set the gold standard for podcast success
Image
Nobody is more baffled by the success of My Dad Wrote a Porno than the people who made My Dad Wrote a Porno. Since the podcast was first released in 2015, its hosts Jamie Morton, James Cooper, and Alice Levine have done the seemingly impossible: turn a ludicrously daft, XXX-rated concept into one of the world’s most popular pods. They’ve carved out a new path for podcasting success, armed only with a book of bewildering smut, written by an author with a very loose grip on grammar. For the show’s legion of listeners, Cooper says, the joy has come from “watching how this silly idea, this ridiculous practical joke, has escalated over time… First, it was the book, then we did some UK tours that became a world tour. Then we played the biggest podcast show ever, then we did the HBO special and everyone’s like, ‘How did that become that?...

Hit Brit Podcast ‘My Dad Wrote a Porno’ to Finish After Seven Years of X-Rated Comedy, 430 Million Downloads
Image
Click here to read the full article.

My Dad Wrote a Porno, the hit Brit podcast, is set to end, bringing to a close one of the most successful, groundbreaking and comically x-rated podcasts of all time.

First launched by Jamie Morton, Alice Levine and James Cooper in 2015, My Dad Wrote a Porno began its life when Morton discovered that his retired father, under the pen name Rocky Flintstone, had been secretly writing a series of adult novels entitled Belinda Blinked that focused on the sexual adventures of a 30-something woman called Belinda Blumenthal as she climbed her way up the exotic world of the pots and pans industry. Appalled with his find, which described wild orgies at work meetings, erotic trysts in motels and sex-filled international business trips, Morton brought his friends Levine and Cooper on board, with the three gathering around a kitchen table to read out chapters...

The Scrapped Stephen King And DC Movies Mike Flanagan Almost Made
Image
Recently, acclaimed horror director Mike Flanagan confirmed once and for all that a project of his never ended up getting the green light. While this is unfortunately common for all creatives in Hollywood, this one might be particularly sad for anyone who loved the director's 2019 film "Doctor Sleep," the official sequel to both the Stephen King novel and the Stanley Kubrick film "The Shining." While exact details of the movie are unknown, we do know that Flanagan wanted to make a prequel centering around the character of Dick Halloran (Scatman Crothers in "The Shining" and Carl Lumbly in "Doctor Sleep"). Given the amount of potential such a movie could have, this confirmation hit particularly hard for both King and Flanagan fans.

"We were So Close," wrote the director on Twitter in response to a piece of fan art by Adam Perocchi. "I'll always regret this didn't happen."

However, this wasn't...

Revival: New Stephen King Movie to Be Adapted by Doctor Sleep Director
Image
Mike Flanagan, the horror auteur behind The Haunting of Hill House and last year’s theatrical version of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep, is attached to yet another King property: the 2014 novel Revival.

Deadline reports that Flanagan will write an adaptation of the novel for Warner Bros. Pictures “with an option to direct,” so he’s not confirmed yet to do the latter. Flanagan is also going to produce the project along with his regular producing partner, Trevor Macy, through their Intrepid Pictures banner.

Revival has been acclaimed as one of King’s better recent novels, and at 405 pages, one of his more succinct. The plot follows a young boy named Jamie Morton and his friendship with small-town minister Charles Jacobs. Years later, long after Jacobs lost his faith following an unspeakable tragedy, the two meet again and Jamie ends up assisting Jacobs in grim experiments that involve using electricity...

‘Doctor Sleep’ Filmmaker Mike Flanagan Returning To Stephen King Onscreen With ‘Revival’
Image
Deadline has confirmed that Doctor Sleep filmmaker Mike Flanagan is returning to the Stephen King world onscreen with a feature adaptation of the author’s 2013 novel Revival.

Flanagan is adapting with an option to direct, we hear. He’ll be producing with Trevor Macy, his Intrepid Pictures partner.

Revival follows Reverend Charles Jacobs, a minister in Harlow, Maine, who shares a secret obsession with boy Jamie Morton, a draw so powerful, it has profound consequences five decades after the shattering tragedy that turned the preacher against God, and long after his final, scathing sermon. Jamie grows to become a nomadic rock guitarist hooked on heroin, and meets Charles Jacobs again, and their bond becomes a pact beyond the Devil’s devising.

Doctor Sleep, based on the King sequel to his classic The Shining, was released last November and grossed $72.3M WW.

‘My Dad Wrote a Porno’ Team Talks Bonding Over Bad Erotica and New HBO Special
Jamie Morton
In 2015, Jamie Morton received an email from someone named Rocky Flintstone that told him to “enjoy” the first few chapters of “Belinda Blinked,” which, upon opening the attachment, Morton discovered, was a series of erotic novels his father had penned. Rocky Flintstone was his nom de plume.

“At first I thought, ‘Great, well done Dad’ for doing something productive with your retirement,” Morton tells Variety. After grappling “for all of about a day” with the fact that his father sent him his own erotica, Morton says he “rushed” to read it to James Cooper and Alice Levine, his longtime friends.

The trio eventually turned Flintstone’s “oeuvre” into a podcast, which to date as accumulated more than 150 million downloads, spawned a live stage version that visited the likes of the Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall, and now a live special for HBO, which airs May 11.

‘My Dad Wrote A Porno’ Creators Joke About Leaving A Black Mark On HBO’s Record Ahead Of Comedy Special
The team behind hit podcast-turned-cable special My Dad Wrote A Porno have lifted the lid on how they scored a deal with HBO and joked about how they were concerned about “leaving a mark” on the premium broadcaster’s exemplary record with their comedy adaptation.

HBO is to air the one-off special, which was filmed at London’s historic Camden Roundhouse venue earlier this year, on Saturday May 11 at 10pm.

Jamie Morton, James Cooper and Alice Levine had been touring the podcast, which tells the story of saucy saucepan saleswoman Belinda Blumenthal, as a live special in the U.S. when HBO got in touch.

Morton, whose father had written the series of 50 Shades of Grey-style raunchy novels, under the pen name Rocky Flinstone that the podcast is based on, told Deadline, “HBO came to one of our shows in New York and go in touch pretty soon after. We...

My Dad Wrote A Porno Takes the Stage for HBO
Catherine Pearson May 10, 2019

We interview the My Dad Wrote A Porno team as Jamie Morton's father’s erotica is brought to the world stage for an HBO special.

This article comes from Den of Geek UK.

It was 2015 when Jamie Morton first opened book one of Belinda Blinked. Written by his father under the pen name Rocky Flintstone, the erotic series follows the risqué comings (ahem) and goings of Belinda Blumenthal, the Worldwide Sales Director for kitchenware retailer Steeles Pots and Pans.

The podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno was off to saucy start … and the book was bad, very bad. There was talk of runnels of liquid, unattractive perspiration and weirdly specific detail about where clothes were placed after being ripped off in the heat of the passion. It was unintentionally hilarious.

With the likes of Elijah Wood, Daisy Ridley, Michael Sheen and Emma Thompson championing the show,...

‘My Dad Wrote a Porno’ Trailer: HBO Brings Hit Comedy Podcast to the Stage
Jamie Morton
When friends Jamie Morton, James Cooper, and Alice Levine first started to unpack the thorny, metaphor-drenched enigma that is “Belinda Blinked,” they probably didn’t think that it would lead to an event in a packed theater that would eventually be aired on HBO.

Yet, as the trailer below proves, that’s what ended up happening when the trio did a special live reading for fans at the Roundhouse in London early last month. As on the trio’s podcast, Morton reads selections from a series of erotic novels written by his real-life father under the pseudonym Rocky Flintstone. Levine and Cooper’s reactions help power the show, which has gained a high-profile set of listeners, prompting guest appearances from the likes of Hayley Atwell, Daisy Ridley, Michael Sheen, and others.

This March performance was far from the first time the three have taken their show on the road — “My...
