Angel Dweh known mononymously as Angel Dweh, a Liberian American singer, recording artist, songwriter, composer, dancer, and actor, was born to Alice Dweh, a businesswoman in Monrovia, Liberia. His mother, a member of the Krahn ethnic group of eastern Liberia, later immigrated to the United States.
Angel is recognized for his ability to blend multiple genres, including Pop, Afropop/Afrobeat, and R&B, in his songwriting. His vibrant music reflects a distinctive sound that mirrors his personality and his native Liberia. Angel's unique vocal style within the Afropop/Afrobeats music genre has earned him the title of "Afro-Prince."
Since his emergence in the music industry in 2020, Angel has garnered attention from both local and international critics with popular singles such as "Love a Good Thing," "Salud," "Hard for Me," and "Flexin." His single "Kokona" achieved significant listenership on independent radio stations in Nigeria, Liberia, and Tanzania. Additionally, "Salud" claimed a position among the top 5 songs on the Master Class Radio show in Canada, and the music video for "Hard for Me" secured a top three position on Hot TV in Liberia.
Angel Dweh has garnered recognition as a nominee for the Master Class Radio Awards and CPMA's Best World Music 2022. Additionally, he has received five ISSA Awards in 2024. Notably, Dweh was honored with the Board Award for Soldier of the Year in 2022 and the CPMA Spot Award for Best World Music in 2023.
In his early adolescence, Angel actively participated in several notable musical engagements. He served as a tenor at the Lebanon Valley College's Honor Choir Festival in 2019 and also featured prominently in the LLMEA Festival in 2017 and 2018. Furthermore, he held membership in the Tri-M Honor Music Society and showcased his talents as a guest performer with the Mountaineer Men Choir at the Ephrata Middle School Choral Concert in 2019. Notably, he delivered a memorable rendition of the National Anthem at the U.S. Women's National Field Hockey Game in 2017.
Angel has been actively involved in both school and community musical theater productions. His debut on stage occurred when he portrayed Seaweed J. Stubbs in a school production of Hairspray in 2014 during his 8th-grade year. During high school, he took on the role of Brujon in Les Miserables in 2015 and participated as a dancer/singer in Grease in 2016. Angel also showcased his talent as a dancer in both Beauty & The Beast and The Addams Family in the Ephrata High School Theater productions. Furthermore, he contributed to the Ephrata Performance Art Center, demonstrating his versatility by performing as a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz in 2017 and as a member of the dance ensemble in Ragtime in 2019. Notably, Angel's off-stage endeavors include working as a print model in a sports-themed photo-shoot for C.T. Pix in 2017.
In 2018, he secured his inaugural paid roles, embodying the characters of Joseph Asagai Erie in Raisin in the Sun with the Lancaster-based Theater Company and assuming a supporting role in the esteemed independent film, Bathroom Trolls, produced by Aaron Immediato. Angel undertook a relocation to Los Angeles, CA subsequent to his high school graduation in 2019 in order to pursue studies at Hussain College in Studio. His ventures led him to New York in 2020, where he took on a supporting role in yet another independent film, portraying Alberto in the Concrete Jungle, a production directed and scripted by Chris Shimojima. "The Making of Visual" (2020) is an autobiographical documentary chronicling his life, crafted in collaboration with Editor Tianna Camille-Village and featuring original music by Angel Dweh.
