Biography

    • Writer/Director Her Lover

Elizabeth Stuelke has been writing and directing for over 10 years. And has recently completed the Sundance Directing Actors Lab. She is a dual member of NYWIFT and WIFV DC, and has worked with executives Steve Douglas-Craig and Grahame Wood (Maclachlan Wood). She was a director and executive producer on the WIVF DC "Making Shorts" contest winner, "Waiting for Galdot," which has garnered numerous festival selections since its premiere in Washington, DC, 2023.

Her Lover is a quiet, evocative film that draws the viewer into Sandy's world to join her, somewhat hesitantly, questioningly, as we test the water, see where things will lead, as she discovers and discloses secrets in an attempt to create a life for herself and now for her lover and their baby.

When Sandy was 11 her mother died by suicide. Sandy remembers things from her childhood, but now as an adult, is faced with the knowledge that her lover was her mother's lover, and that her mother had an abortion before she died by suicide. But, her mother aborted her father's baby, not her lover's. Now Sandy is in a relationship with that same man, her mother's lover, and they have a baby together. Did Sandy want this relationship and this child to atone for (as a way to reclaim) her mother's lost baby? Did she know about Cecil and her mother? What future do she and Cecil and their baby have? "Sometimes you have to hold on to let go."
