Not every anime protagonist will be beloved right out of the gate. In a medium where it's easy to see characters fall into the same tropes, it can be incredibly annoying for the main character to feel generic. Great anime titles are defined by their protagonists, and a bad main character may cause viewers to drop whatever series they watch after the first episode. However, having a bit of patience can go a long way for viewers to watch these blank slates grow into believable people.

With enough time, fans will find themselves drawn to these characters. More about their pasts could be revealed or rising stakes in the narrative could force them to make tough choices. These decisions could make a boring main character vastly more interesting than before. These case studies help elevate their characters, and their anime series, to new heights.

Asta's Trust in His Allies...

In anime, heroes will be put in some of the most challenging situations and overcome them with ease thanks to their abilities or special traits. But, more often than not, anime will depict such heroes in a way that offers little characterization or obstacles in favor of rapid growth. Not every hero needs to start out as overpowered, especially when they become unstoppable in little time.

Quality storytelling will showcase a protagonist overcoming challenges and growing as a character through adversity. However, anime will often depict its heroes as overpowered characters who face little to no obstacles on their path towards becoming the strongest. Heroes that go from zero to essentially becoming gods can be shown in an interesting way, but anime sometimes rushes to the finish line in favor of spectacle over quality character progression.

Dragon Ball Daima is the newest addition to the Dragon Ball universe, and it hasn't missed its mark. It's a fun, light-hearted series that reintroduces the cast of Dragon Ball in an amazing light. While Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Gt, and Dragon Ball Super put action first and comedy second, Daima changes the formula to create a new series that feels fresher than ever.

The evil Demon King Gomah used the Dragon Balls to make Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters become kids again, leading to a hilarious adventure, great battles, and surprising transformations. As a series that puts fun first, it has a different tone than most of the Dragon Ball franchise, but there are still plenty of other anime series that share a lot in common with the latest entry into the Dragon Ball canon.

Tokusatsu fans can rejoice today, as the official website and accounts for the Fuuto Pi anime announced today that Shotaro and Phillip are back on the case for a new anime film subtitled Kamen Rider Skull no Shozo ("Portrait of Kamen Rider Skull"), which will transform Japanese theaters for a limited time starting November 8, 2024 with an adaptation of the original Kamen Rider W series' "Begins Night" scenario. Main cast members Yoshimasa Hosoya and Koki Uchiyama are confirmed to return. Kenjiro Tsuda (Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen ) will join as Sokichi Narumi.
