Sylvia L. Jones is a writer and producer whose work includes Starz's Power Book IV: Force, Showtime's The Chi, and Ava DuVernay's Cherish the Day on OWN. She also developed and penned the script to the Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott produced television biopic, The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel.
Before transitioning her career to entertainment, Sylvia earned two Emmy Awards for Journalism, an Associated Press Award, and an Edward R. Murrow Award for Writing. In her 20-year long career, her on-the-ground reporting covered such historic events as the 9/11 attacks from ground zero, President Barack Obama's historic elections and the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.
A Chicago native, Sylvia holds dual degrees in Communications and Psychology from Stanford University as well as a Master's in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University. She also completed the Professional Program in Writing for Television at UCLA and the Producers Guild of America's Power of Diversity Master Workshop. Sylvia hosts an annual retreat and workshop in Chicago to assist writers from underrepresented communities gain the necessary tools to access Hollywood.
