6 NBC shows I need to see renewed by May 2025
Image
It’s that time of year when we know that more cancellations and renewals are likely to come. There are still far too many shows on the bubble, and it’s hard to call which way the networks will go with some of the shows. That’s certainly the case with the NBC shows.

While I would love to see everything make it through because I think the hard work of the cast and crew deserves to be recognized, there are certain shows that I want to see more than others. I’m invested in the storylines and the writing, or the shows have already ended on cliffhangers that I need answers to. Here are the six NBC shows I need to see make it through to the 2025–2026 TV season.

Chicago Fire -- "In The Rubble" Episode 13016 -- Pictured: (l-r) Taylor Kinney as Kelly Severide, Joe Miñoso as Joe Cruz,...

'How Did We Get Here?': Brilliant Minds Star Talks Carol's Allison Problem
Image
Dr. Carol Pierce is facing an impossible decision as Brilliant Minds heads toward its fall finale. After realizing that her patient Alison Zhang-Whitaker was also the woman with whom her husband Morris was having an affair, Carol made the dangerous choice to continue treating Alison. The NBC medical drama brought everything to a head in Season 1, Episode 10, "The First Responder," in which Carol rushed to Alison's apartment -- only to find her unconscious.

How far can Carol possibly go? How hard will she work to save Alison, if Alison can be saved? And will this shocking development also be the undoing of Carol's career, considering that she'll be in a heap of trouble should it become public knowledge that she was knowingly continuing to treat her husband's mistress? Ahead of the conclusion to the Alison story, Cbr spoke to Brilliant Minds star Tamberla Perry about how Carol got to this...

Brilliant Minds Review: An Empathetic Lens Into Neurodiversity
Image
Welcome to the neurology ward of Bronx General Hospital. It’s here that Doctor Oliver Wolf plies his unconventional trade, solving medical mysteries that baffle even his peers.

Played with intensity by Zachary Quinto, Dr. Wolf thinks outside the box when it comes to patient care. His methods ruffle feathers at times, but results are what matter most. Inspired by the work of neurologist Oliver Sacks, the show strives to honor those living with neurological conditions.

At first glance, Dr. Wolf seems an odd fit for this place. Loathing rules and social norms, he’s been fired from other hospitals. But there’s no questioning his talents. When facing puzzling cases, Dr. Wolf squints or stares off into space, visualizing clues others miss. Through him, we meet patients in deeply moving ways. Like the man who forgot his own family or the athlete losing her sense of self.

With guidance from friend Dr.

Roush Review: Zachary Quinto as a Brain Whisperer in NBC’s ‘Brilliant Minds’
Image
Though inspired by famed neurologist Oliver Sacks (Awakenings), Brilliant Minds’ maverick doctor hero Oliver Wolf (the intense Zachary Quinto) also owes a debt to his TV predecessors. Like Hugh Laurie in House, he’s an abrasive rule-breaker, a genius who annoys those in authority while solving profound medical mysteries—think of him as a brain whisperer—with quirky interns eagerly following his every move. Like Freddie Highmore in The Good Doctor, he has a condition you wouldn’t expect in a healer: face blindness. “It makes you look so much deeper. You see the stuff the rest of us miss,” a colleague assures him, perhaps a bit too on the nose. Also rare in a lead character, Oliver is openly gay, although in the first episodes, his affections are focused solely on his noble profession and his considerable empathy reserved for his troubled patients. The cases of the week tend...

Tamberla Perry Shares How Brilliant Minds Differs From Other Medical Dramas
Image
Medical dramas are a popular genre, but NBC’s Brilliant Minds differs from the rest because it’s based on the life and work of the real Dr. Oliver Sacks and his longtime friend, Dr. Carol Burnett.

The series focuses on a larger-than-life neurologist, Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto), who isn’t afraid to break the rules to help his patients live their lives.

While many stories focus on him, the series wouldn’t have worked without his oldest friend, Dr. Carol Pierce, recruiting him to Bronx Hospital. Together, they run the dream neuropsychology team to help many patients others have given up on.

(Brendan Meadows/NBC)

TV Fanatic chatted with Tamberla Perry about playing Dr. Carol Pierce, working with Zachary Quinto, and why Brilliant Minds differs from other medical dramas.

She was charming to talk to, and after speaking with her, I’m even more excited to see where this series is headed.

“We’re Doing Medical Cases, But It’s Always About the Person”: ‘THR Presents’ Q&a With the Cast and Showrunner of ‘Brilliant Minds’
Image
In this edition of THR Presents Live, the cast and showrunner of Brilliant Minds opened up about NBC’s upcoming medical drama series at a live event hosted by the San Vicente Bungalows in Los Angeles.

The series stars Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf, a revolutionary neurologist who advocates for his patients at Bronx General Hospital, where his unconventional methods often astound — and at times perplex — his colleagues. Showrunner and executive producer Michael Grassi spoke of the inspiration of Brilliant Minds’ main character: the renowned physician, neurologist and writer Dr. Oliver Sacks. “Oliver Sacks had this incredible ability to bring patients out of themselves, while at the same time, sort of drawing the world in with his writing,” said Grassi. “When he wrote about his patients, it was never about the disease, it was about the person. And in a strange way, we’re also doing that on our show.

Playing Doctor
Image
In NBC’s new fall series Brilliant Minds, Zachary Quinto, best known as Star Trek’s stoic Dr. Spock, is getting a bit more emotional as Dr. Oliver Wolf, an unconventional neurologist based on the real-life British groundbreaker, Dr. Oliver Sacks. “Oliver Sacks dedicated his life to de-stigmatizing mental illness,” notes exec producer Michael Grassi (Riverdale). “And I think this show is taking things that might be invisible or scary and people having really interesting conversations and debates and arguments and talking about things that feel urgent.” In the opener, Wolf acclimates to his new gig as Attending Physician at the Bronx General Hospital, where he has been brought in by longtime friend Dr. Carol Pierce (All American: Homecoming‘s Tamberla Perry) to work with a team of interns in the facility’s general neurology department.
