Why Extraction 3 Is Taking So Long To Make Explained By Chris Hemsworth
Image
Chris Hemsworth reveals that Extraction 3 is still in the script stage, as they're trying to come up with a compelling story. Hemsworth is very proud of the previous two film and wants the third to be at that same level. Extraction 2's ending sets up the third film's story, with Hemsworth's Tyler Rake poised to travel to a new location to rescue a high-value individual.

Extraction 3 gets a new update from star Chris Hemsworth at San Diego Comic-Con, revealing why the third film is taking so long. The first Extraction movie in 2020, directed by Sam Hargrave, introduced audiences to Hemsworth's lethal mercenary, Tyler Rake, who is tasked with rescuing a VIP from a dangerous area of Dhaka. The world of the hit Netflix action film expanded last year with the release of Hargrave's sequel, and Extraction 3 has since been confirmed to be in development.

The Nik And Yaz Extraction Spinoff: Story, If It's Happening & Everything We Know
Image
Following Extraction 2's release on Netflix, some Nik and Yaz Extraction spinoff news has been circulating online, signaling just how wide the Extraction franchise could span. Extraction 2 continues the action franchise with the seemingly unstoppable Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) going on covert missions to pull assets out of dangerous situations. The sequel saw Rake helped by his colleagues, the brother and sister team of Nik Khan (Golshifteh Farahani) and Yaz Khan (Adam Bessa). The scene-stealing duo seem to have been popular enough to generate some Nik and Yaz Extraction spinoff ideas — ideas that are already gaining traction.

Extraction 2 elevated the Netflix action genre with its wild sequences and Tyler Rake's continued effectiveness as a new action hero. However, the success of the movies seem to have inspired some discussion about expanding the franchise. Just as there are multiple John Wick spinoffs, the Extraction franchise hopes to find...

Chris Hemsworth, Mariami Kovziashvili, and Marta Kovziashvili in Tyler Rake 2 (2023)
Extraction 2 Review: Brutal Action Imprisoned by Dull Drama
Chris Hemsworth, Mariami Kovziashvili, and Marta Kovziashvili in Tyler Rake 2 (2023)
Early in the Netflix action flick Extraction 2, handler Nik Khan (Golshifteh Farahani) looks upon the battered body of mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) and observes, “You fought your way back.” That might sound like a bit of empty exposition, but those who saw the first Extraction know how remarkable Rake’s achievement actually is. Adapted from the Ande Parks comic Cuidad, 2020’s Extraction ended with Rake plummeting into the Ganges after being stabbed and shot. A lot.

But as clear as Nik’s first comment may be, her follow-up is much more baffling. “You just have to find out why,” she continues, the camera holding on her face to make sure everyone understands just how concerned she is.

In its weakest moments, Extraction 2 spends too much time dwelling on the hero’s existential crisis. The first 20 minutes of the movie follow mercenary Rake as he recovers from his...

‘Extraction 2’ Review: Chris Hemsworth Returns for Netflix’s Brainlessly Over-the-Top Sequel
Image
You didn’t think we’d seen the last of Tyler Rake, did you?

The black-ops mercenary played by Chris Hemsworth was the hero of 2020’s Extraction, one of Netflix’s most watched movies ever. So it’s hardly a surprise that the tough-as-nails, macho character returns in the unimaginatively titled Extraction 2, reuniting the Thor actor with director Sam Hargrave and screenwriter Joe Russo (co-director with brother Anthony on four MCU entries, including two Avengers flicks) for another wildly over-the-top adventure based on Andre Parks’ graphic novel Ciudad.

Suffice it to say that if you enjoyed Extraction, you’ll have a fine time with this one, which, in typical franchise fashion, busts its butt attempting to outdo its predecessor. And it does, most notably in a “oner” action sequence designed to appear as if it were filmed in a single take that lasts 21 minutes, or nearly twice as long...
