Bobby Berk is addressing controversy that arose after he announced his new show with HGTV just a day after Netflix revealed Queer Eye will end with season 10.
A former member of the streamer’s rebooted series, Berk served as the Fab Five’s design expert through season one to eight, before he departed from the show ahead of its ninth installment. He will now star in the new series Junk or Jackpot? via HGTV, though the announcement notably came on July 10, a day after Netflix announced Queer Eye is set to conclude after its forthcoming 10th season.
“I have to say, I swear on my mother’s life, my show announcement date was set,” he told People when asked about the timing. “No, this was planned. Show announcements don’t happen on a whim.”
One of his former Queer Eye co-star’s even reached out in the wake of the reveal.

As Bobby Berk enters the next phase of his onscreen design career, he wishes no shade to the Fab Five.
The Queer Eye alum, who exited the series back in 2023, recently clarified that he did not intend to announce his new HGTV series the day after Deadline reported that Netflix is renewing the reboot of the LGBTQ makeover show for a 10th and final season.

Interior designer Bobby Berk was one of the original five hosts of Netflix’s reality show “Queer Eye” — aka the Fab Five — but left after the Season 8 in 2023 and is now set to host his own HGTV show. There was some awkward timing earlier this summer with Berk’s HGTV announcement and the news that “Queer Eye” would be ending after the upcoming Season 10.
Netflix announced on July 9 that “Queer Eye” will end after the 10th and final season, and the next day on July 10 HGTV revealed Berk would be hosting a new show, titled “Junk or Jackpot?” Berk addressed the backlash over his announcement with People and revealed that his former “Queer Eye” co-host Karamo Brown called him out over it.

Bobby Berk swears it was just a coincidence that he announced his upcoming HGTV show one day after Netflix announced that Queer Eye was ending. The home design expert admitted to People in a new interview that he caught flak for the timing, considering Queer Eye is the show that made Berk a household name. Netflix revealed on July 9 that Queer Eye would end after its forthcoming 10th season; Berk revealed on July 10 that he’d host a show tentatively titled Junk or Jackpot? on HGTV. “I have to say, I swear on my mother’s life, my show announcement date was set,” Berk told People. “No, this was planned.

HGTV is shaking up its renovation roster, ordering the six-episode series “Junk or Jackpot?” with designer Bobby Berk and wrestler-turned-entrepreneur John Cena attached as executive producer, while longtime staple “Rehab Addict” steps aside until autumn at host Nicole Curtis’s request.
“Junk or Jackpot?”—slated for a late-2025 debut—follows collectors whose sprawling stashes of superhero figurines, rare puppets and other memorabilia are appraised and, if they agree, partially sold to finance overdue home makeovers. Berk says the format helps “passionate people sift through their cherished items and give them re-imagined spaces that will best honor what they hold dear.” Cena adds that the idea grew out of wondering whether prized collections are “trash or treasure.”
The designer’s pivot comes after his exit from Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” which, according to People, will wrap with its tenth season next year.

All great things have to come to an end, and that’s the case for Netflix’s first reality series. Queer Eye is wrapping things up, with the upcoming 10th season confirmed as the last.
Deadline announced the devastating news for fans. The Fab Five will give their last lot of fashion advice in Washington D.C., and it seems fitting to end the series in the nation’s capital. Of course, this doesn’t mean it has to be the end forever. Many of you will remember the name Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, which was the first iteration of this program.

To date, Jeff Probst (Survivor), Jane Lynch (Hollywood Game Night), and RuPaul Charles (RuPaul's Drag Race) are the only people to win the Best Reality Host Emmy at least twice in a row. But a fourth contender could soon be joining their esteemed list.
Alan Cumming (The Traitors) is the clear frontrunner in Gold Derby's predictions to claim his second consecutive host trophy. He also won as a producer last year when The Traitors prevailed for Best Competition Program. Cumming plays a heightened version of himself on Peacock's reality TV show, someone who oozes camp and gets excited every time a murder takes place inside his luxurious Scottish castle. Could The Traitors exist in a world without Cumming? Yes. But it wouldn't be nearly as fun. In addition to his two Emmys, the performer is also a double Tony winner for Cabaret and A Strange Loop.

Rock the Block returned with its sixth season on Monday, April 14, but there’s already online discourse about whether the right team won the first round. Bobby Berk was the guest celebrity judge in the premiere and had to evaluate the teams’ living areas, dining rooms, and kitchens. This season, two rookie teams (Chelsea DeBoer/Cole DeBoer and Kamohai Kalama/Tristyn Kalama) are competing against two veteran teams (Alison Victoria/Michel Smith Boyd and Jonathan Knight/Jordan Knight). They’re tasked with renovating identical properties with the same budget. For the first time ever, there was blind judging, meaning Berk didn’t know whose home he was looking at when he did his walk throughs. In the end, Berk chose Victoria and Boyd as the winners of the challenge, which means they’ll get an extra $3,000 in the next portion of the competition. As fellow veterans, the Knights will get $1,500 toward their next renovation.

HGTV’s hit renovation showdown, Rock the Block, is back for its sixth installment — bigger, bolder, and with a few surprises that are already shaking things up. The new season premiered just yesterday on April 14, 2025, and it brings along not just returning fan favorites but a highly anticipated debut from none other than Queer Eye alum Bobby Berk.
The host Ty Pennington is helming the competition this season just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, where four design teams will now be battling it out with $250,000 budgets and six weeks to completely transform identical modern homes. But this time, the properties come with the largest backyards in Rock the Block history, and so, fans can expect some next-level outdoor design renovations. Not just that, though — for the first time in the show’s history, Rock the Block has also introduced blind judging, and that’ll ensure that each team’s designs are evaluated without bias.

The indie project follows Amar Farooqi (Abraham), a former MLB pitcher whose career-ending injury leads him back to his South Asian roots via the cricket field. When steel company heir Aj Joshi (Shaun Majumder) and his publicist niece Maya (Nazanin Mandi) recruit him to revitalize their struggling cricket team, the Steel City Strikers, Amar finds an unexpected second chance at sports glory, guided by his struggling but well-connected manager Mickey (Berk).
For Abraham, who serves as both star and co-creator alongside Berk, the project represents a personal journey. “Growing up as an immigrant in Canada, I leaned toward assimilation and lost touch with my South Asian roots,” Abraham says. “This project is an opportunity...

Over the years, Netflix has produced movies featuring A-list actors and TV shows that starred beloved celebrities. As impressive as that is, it could be argued that one of Netflix's reality shows is a bigger deal. Queer Eye arguably has been a much bigger deal because the revival of the original influential series has spread so much love into the world.
As most Netflix users know, the streaming service has produced many great reality shows. However, most of them haven't punched through into the pop culture the same way that Queer Eye has. After all, there is a reason why Jonathan Van Ness can charge a fortune for a haircut. The reason why Queer Eye is such a big deal is it puts so much love into the world. Despite that, one of Queer Eye's heroes revealed the disgusting attacks that came when the fab five gave them a makeover.
