Will Smith Reveals Why He Passed on Starring in Christopher Nolan’s Best Movie
Image
Will Smith recently disclosed a surprising career decision: he turned down the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s iconic sci-fi film Inception. In an interview with Kiss Xtra, Smith shared, “I don’t think I’ve ever said it publicly before. But I am going to say it now because we are opening up to one another… Chris Nolan brought me Inception first and I didn’t get it.”

The film, which became a global sensation starring Leonardo DiCaprio, could have featured Smith in the mind-bending tale of dreams within dreams.

Smith admitted the complex plot confused him at the time. The concepts of layered dreams, time manipulation, and “kicks” didn’t click, leading him to decline. “But I am hurt by those, too… It hurts too bad to talk about,” he added, reflecting on the regret of missing out. He wasn’t alone, Brad Pitt also passed on the role,...

Christopher Nolan’s Inception is one of the most famous sci-fi films ever made. It had a wild, twisting story about dreams, time, and reality that left audiences amazed. With Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead, the movie became a huge hit, both with critics and at the box office. But here’s something many fans don’t know, DiCaprio wasn’t the first choice for the role. Nolan actually offered it to Will Smith.

Yes, that’s right. Will Smith had the chance to star in Inception, but he turned it down. During an interview with Kiss Xtra, Smith shared the story and explained why he passed on the project.

“I don’t think I’ve ever said it publicly before. But I am going to say it now because we are opening up to one another… Chris Nolan brought me Inception first and I didn’t get it.”

Per Variety, Apple TV+ announced that a sequel to The Family Plan is in the works, and in addition to Wahlberg and Monaghan, writer David Coggeshall is back to pen the script while Simon Cellan Jones will be sitting in the director's chair. Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby will also round out the cast for the sequel, which is set to take place during Christmastime in Europe, where Wahlberg's Dan Morgan wants to have the perfect vacation with his family. From ‘Bad Boys’ to “Baby Boy”: Sean Paul on Collaborating With Will Smith and Beyoncé
Image
Sean Paul says he usually writes songs for women, but when Will Smith called him to collaborate on a song for Bad Boys: Ride or Die, he needed him to turn up his inner bad boy.

“He sent me the song with him on it already and basically asked me to do a verse, and I went in. I usually don’t do badman lyrics, I’m more for the ladies, but the movie is called Bad Boys,” the Grammy-winning reggae-dancehall artist tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The track was dope and it’s definitely reflective of Run Dmc, [LL Cool J’s] ‘Rock the Bells,’ old-school hip-hop with that energy.”

Smith and Paul join forces on the beat laden track “Light Em Up,” one of the 10 songs on the soundtrack accompanying the film that opened to a victorious $56.5 million at the domestic box office.

Paul, 51, recalls meeting Smith earlier in his career: In the...

But, obviously, leading the way is Jelly Roll’s singular voice, as he bellows, “I know I can’t be the only one/Who’s holding on for dear life/But God knows, I know/When it’s all said...

'The Greatest Hits': Bad Boys 4 Writer Teases Fan-Favorite Cameos in Ride or Die
Image
A fan-favorite character has been confirmed for Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Chris Bremner, who wrote Ride or Die, recently revealed that John Salley will be one of the many original franchise stars to appear in the fourth movie, reprising his role as Fletcher.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Bremner explained why they opted to bring back former Bad Boys cast members instead of creating new characters for Ride or Die. "We always liked doing cameos. When the idea came out that it was an old case and Captain Howard was putting it together, it was suddenly like, 'Well, of course, you're going to go back to all these people, because why not?' Why invent new characters? Its too many people for audiences to care about. Lets go back to the greatest hits. There were a couple we couldn't get or didn't get, which I wish we could have had.

The new song finds Lucas spinning verses about how he wishes he could turn back the clock and reverse — or rewrite — different tragedies and injustices. In the video, Lucas sits in front of a TV and watches these events back, covering everything from the Will Smith Oscars slap to Kobe Bryant’s death, Brittney Griner’s arrest, and the killings of Pop Smoke and PnB Rock.

The ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Soundtrack Is an Insult to Children
Image
In 2019, a documentary about the making of 2 Chainz’ Rap or Go to the League was released to the rap public. The documentary features LeBron James as a faux A&r guy, directing Tity Boi on how many tracks he should put on the record. LeBron talks to Chainz about his idea of releasing a deluxe version of the album two weeks later as if he invented fire. “Thank you for taking this ride with me. Here’s two more.” It was hilarious, goofy, and completely in earnest: LeBron was doing...

‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Steals Ball Away From ‘Black Widow’ With $31M+ Opening, Best For Family Pic & WB During Pandemic
Image
Sunday Am Update: Even with Space Jam: A New Legacy in homes on HBO Max, Warner Bros. proves again that when they shell out on TV spots, they can open the film in movie theaters to a solid number. In this case, it was the best 3-day we’ve seen for a family film during the pandemic, with $31.65M. That’s also the best for Warner Bros. during the Covid-19 era, beating Godzilla vs. Kong‘s big Easter opening of $31.625M by a smidge, and also a record career opening for director Malcolm D. Lee, beating the opening weekend of his Girls Trip by $31.2M.

“It’s the family movie of the summer, and it’s exciting to see audiences come back in big numbers,” said Warner Bros. domestic theatrical distribution chief Jeff Goldstein, who praised the big marketing push by the studio for the Looney Tunes NBA sequel,...

‘World of Dance’ sneak peek: Bailey and Kida are so good during Duels, Ne-Yo doesn’t think they’re even human [Watch]
Image
Chemistry is important for any duo on “World of Dance,” so it was concerning for the judges that Bailey and Kida hadn’t been dancing together for very long compared to other team acts in the competition. But they still made it through the Qualifiers with flying colors. Did they connect better during the Junior Division Duels, where they faced off against another duo, James and Harris? NBC shared an online preview of their routine above to the song “Isis” by Joyner Lucas. Watch it above.

Releasing Joyner Lucas and Eminem’s ‘What If I Was Gay?’ Would Have Been a Huge Mistake
Eminem
Since its arrival in 2000, “Stan” never really left. Stubborn, persistent, and culturally malleable, the song’s name, concept, and story structure took on a life of their own. Almost two decades later, the word is so ubiquitous there are likely millions of modern stans that have never listened to “Stan.” If they did, they might well be horrified to be compared to the skinny, out of control character staring back at them.

The third single from The Eminem Show is now double platinum, garnered two high-profile dictionary entries, and launched a subgenre onto itself.

Grammy Awards 2019: Complete Winners List (Updating)
Lady Gaga at an event for The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards (2015)
Brandi Carlile and Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” emerged as early winners at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

Kendrick Lamar heads into the ceremony with eight nominations, followed by Drake has seven, and Brandi Carlile and producer Boi-1da follow with six nods apiece.

Drake, Carlile and Lamar were all recognized in the three biggest categories — Album, Song and Record of the Year — for their most recent albums, “Scorpion,” “By the Way, I Forgive You” and the “Black Panther” soundtrack, respectively.

In addition to the four nominations for his work with frequent collaborator Drake, Boi-1da, a.k.a. Matthew Samuels, earned two additional nods in the rap categories for serving as a writer on Eminem and Jay Rock singles. He also received a nomination for Non-Classical Producer of the Year.

Grammy Nominations: The Biggest Snubs and Surprises
Brandi Carlile
Every year, in the hours after the nominees for the Grammy Awards are announced, howls of outrage can be heard across the globe. “He/She was/They were robbed!” “Who is he/she/they?” “This is Bs!” The ranks of the disgruntled are endless.

While the winners are a whole other conversation, it’s fair to say that the Grammys’ list of nominees has become increasingly and impressively diverse in recent years, at least when one considers the fact that the awards aim for consensus and thus are, by nature, “middle of the road.” With all of that in mind, they never lose their ability to surprise, and there is no shortage of surprises and snubs in this year’s nominee list.

Surprises

Brandi who? H.E. who?

There’s little question that the biggest surprises are the big looks for veteran singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile — who has a whopping six nominations,...

Eminem Scores Grammy Nomination for Song Where He Sings ‘I Sold My Soul’ for Grammys
Eminem
Eminem just landed a Grammy nomination for his song “Lucky You,” which features fellow emcee Joyner Lucas. The single, which comes off of Slim Shady’s “Kamikaze” album, is an interesting Best Rap Song contender, as Eminem takes a shot at the Grammys in his version of the chorus.

Here are Em’s relevant lyrics:

I done won a couple Grammys, but I sold my soul to get ‘em

Wasn’t in it for the trophies, just the f—in’ recognition

F—‘s the difference?

Joyner’s bars, which start the song, are a bit more complimentary of the top trophy in their industry. A bit.

See Eminem Dance With Copycats in ‘Lucky You’ Video
Eminem
Eminem and Joyner Lucas attract an army of imitators in the new video for “Lucky You.”

No, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. The two rappers stroll through an empty post-industrial wasteland delivering their lines in double-time. As they walk, they’re stalked by an ever-growing number of figures wearing black hoodies with eyes that glow bright red. During a bizarre and over-long comic interlude, Lucas and Eminem realize that their stalkers will imitate every move they make, so they lead their followers through a series of goofy dances.
