Ashkan Nejati is an Iranian-Canadian film director, screenwriter, actor, and musician who received his master's degree in Theater Directing from the University of Tehran's College of Fine Arts.
Nejati's entry into the world of acting began in the early 2000s through the renowned acting classes of Hamid Samandarian, one of the most influential figures in Iranian theatre. He went on to perform in more than twenty stage productions, including Death of Yazdgerd, The Bear, The Émigrés, The Doctor in Spite of Himself, 1417, Encounter, and Interview.
As a Film director, his debut feature film Tonight's Homework premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and was later selected for the Zlin International Film Festival. The film won Best Documentary at the Iranian Film Festival in Zurich and participated in several other international festivals.
In theatre, Nejati has directed notable productions such as The Anniversary by Chekhov, The Émigrés by Slawomir Mrozek, and Something Will Be Done by Heinrich Boll , etc.
As a film actor, he made his screen debut in There Will Be Blood on Wednesday, followed by roles in Appendix, Sayeban, and Voiceless. Since moving to Canada, he has continued his acting career with roles in ZIP, One Must Wash Eyes, and the feature film Foreigner, which is set to premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal in July 2025.
