The acting world lost such giants as Betty White who died on New Year’s Eve eve, Ed Asner, Cicely Tyson, Charles Grodin, Jessica Walter, Christopher Plummer, Michael K. Williams, Hal Holbrook, George Segal, Yaphet Kotto, Jane Powell and Ned Beatty.
We also pay tribute to filmmakers including Melvin Van Peebles, Jean-Marc Vallée, Bertrand Travernier, Richard Donner, Michael Apted and Roger Michell.
The executive and producing worlds lost the likes of Jamie Tarses, Chuck Fries and public television’s Pete Noyes and Bill Kobin.

Patrick Healy is calling it a career at Knbc-tv in Los Angeles.
L.A.’s NBC affiliate announced the newsman’s retirement today after 37 years there. Healy covered such major local stories as the Rodney King beating and the officers’ subsequent trial, the 1992 Los Angeles riots, the O.J. Simpson chase and aftermath, the Night Stalker case, the investigation into Michael Jackson’s death, the Kobe Bryant helicopter crash and many more.

“I am extremely fortunate to have been given a chance to be a part of the best news shop In Los Angeles, and then be able to work the better part of my career with the most talented, most dedicated — and most caring — journalists in the TV news business,” said Healy, a Los Angeles native and UCLA grad whose father is the late L.A. sports radio legend Jim Healy.

Pete Noyes, a Peabody-winning Los Angeles TV news legend who worked in every L.A. network affiliate’s newsroom during a six-decade career and was the inspiration for the classic TV character Lou Grant, died Monday of natural causes at him home in Westlake Village, CA. He was 90. His son, longtime Knbc-TV assignment editor Jack Noyes, said his father had been in declining health.
The multiple-News Emmy winner was an early producer of then-Knxt’s format The Big News in 1963, when it expanded to become the first hourlong newscast in the region. He also was an investigative journalist, author and educator also taught broadcast news reporting at USC and Cal State Northridge for many years.
Noyes began his career working for the military paper Pacific Stars & Stripes while he was in the Army during the Korean War and later worked for City News Service in Los Angeles. During...
