Image
Netflix has announced that “Little House on the Prairie” is officially in production.

Netflix's Little House on the Prairie reboot adds New Amsterdam, Batwoman stars to cast
Image
Netflix’s reboot of Little House on the Prairie just got even more exciting with stars from New Amsterdam and Batwoman joining the cast, as well as several other talented actors. This latest casting news comes about three weeks after the announcement of who will portray the Ingalls family in the series.

We first learned of this Little House on the Prairie reboot back in January 2025 when Netflix announced that it had officially greenlit the project. It is not a remake or continuation of the beloved television series of the same name that aired on NBC from 1974 to 1983. Instead, it's Netflix's fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s original Little House on the Prairie books.

Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for working on shows like The Boys, The Vampire Diaries and Archive 81, is signed on as showrunner and executive producer. She also writes the scripts. Additionally, Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly,...

Peter Pan & Wendy Sets a Painful Disney Live-Action Remake Record
Image
Peter Pan & Wendy recently set a new record for the worst audience score ever for a live-action remake of a Disney animated film.

Per Rotten Tomatoes, Peter Pan & Wendy, which began streaming on Disney+ on Apr. 28, currently has an audience score of 13 percent, which is a whopping 15 percent worse than what the live-action remake of Pinocchio received back in 2022. The only other Disney live-action remakes to receive an audience score of under 45 percent are the two Glenn Close-led 101 Dalmatians movies with the 1996 film receiving a score of 40 percent while the sequel, 102 Dalmatians, is a bit lower at 32 percent. As of April 2023, the top three audience scores for live-action Disney remakes are 2021's Cruella (97%), 2019's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (95%) and 2019's Aladdin (94%).

4 Classic Peter Pan Problems Disney Fixes In Their Live-Action Movie
Image
Warning: the following contains spoilers from the film Peter Pan & Wendy.

Disney's original 1953 animated Peter Pan has some outdated and offensive aspects, problems that were corrected in the new live-action Peter Pan & Wendy. Like many of the old animated Disney films on Disney Plus, the streaming platform gave Peter Pan a warning message at the beginning because of some of its offensive messages. The film has faced a lot of criticism in the decades since its release for its racist and sexist themes. 70 years after Disney premiered the animated Peter Pan, the new film had a lot of updates to make in order to make the movie suitable for the modern audience.

Peter Pan & Wendy also corrected some plot holes, giving Peter Pan and Captain Hook their own backstories. In the new Peter Pan, Peter used to live in Wendy's home, but he ran away to Neverland and never came back.

‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ Review (Disney+)
Image
Stars: Ever Anderson, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Alexander Molony, Noah Matthews Matofsky, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Jude Law | Written by David Lowery, Toby Halbrooks | Directed by David Lowery

Peter Pan has seen as many adaptations as anyone, they come around every few decades, and every now and again one sticks with a generation for a lifetime. The 1953 Disney original certainly had that, as too did 1991s Hook, the film that stuck with me and my generation. Since then the only other adaption that has stuck was the 2003 adaption. The 2003 adaption was another good entry into the legend of Peter Pan, and like the films before, it hooked onto a generation that still love that film today. When a Peter Pan adaptation is done even half right, it finds itself stuck to a generation, it is perhaps a testament to the story J.M. Barrie created that so many different adaptions and takes can connect to so many,...

Disney Finally Fixes Peter Pan's Controversial Tiger Lily Story After 70 Years
Image
Peter Pan & Wendy finally addresses the problematic Tiger Lily story from the animated Peter Pan after 70 years. Disney's approach to Tiger Lily has been panned for years for its offensive stereotypes and cultural appropriation. The indigenous characters were depicted as racially insensitive caricatures, and the song "What Makes the Red Man Red" is a clear example of blatant racism. However, it's heartening to see that Disney has finally taken notice of the outrage and made a positive change in Peter Pan & Wendy. Alyssa Wapanatâhk's portrayal of Tiger Lily, with authentic Cree language, dress, and craftsmanship, is a significant step toward the respectful representation of indigenous peoples.

Wapanatâhk has expressed her surprise and happiness at Disney's attention to detail in Peter Pan & Wendy and care for the character of Tiger Lily. She has also praised the company for taking steps towards more respectful representation of indigenous peoples in their films.

10 Biggest Differences Between Peter Pan & Wendy & Disney’s Animated Movie
Image
Though the live-action Peter Pan & Wendy is a remake of Disney's 1953 animated Peter Pan, there are several major differences between the two. Like the animated film, Peter Pan & Wendy follows Wendy and her brothers, John and Michael, as they avoid growing up by traveling from London to Neverland with Peter Pan. On Neverland, they encounter pirates, mermaids, and the Lost Boys. At the end of the film, Wendy and her brothers decide to return home, while Peter goes back to Neverland.

The main characters and story beats of Peter Pan & Wendy and Peter Pan are the same, but the live-action film has added more to the plot and changed problematic elements. Peter Pan & Wendy draws inspiration from Disney's old film, while still making a movie that stands on its own. It also pulls some material from J.M. Barrie's original Peter Pan story that was missing from the 1953 Peter Pan.

Peter Pan & Wendy Review
Image
Plot: Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy, Tinker Bell, she travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters the evil pirate Captain Hook and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.

Review: In their seemingly neverending quest to refresh their animated IP with live-action remakes, Disney thought they would find luck by bringing auteur David Lowery back after his updated take of Pete’s Dragon to tackle a new Peter Pan feature film. Where Lowery imbued Pete’s Dragon, a less familiar title in the overall Disney canon, with realistic characters and emotionally grounded storytelling, his Peter Pan & Wendy is a rote remake that sticks pretty close to the 1953 original. While the more problematic elements from the classic animated film have been replaced,...

What Language Tiger Lily Speaks In Peter Pan & Wendy
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Peter Pan & WendyDisney's live-action Peter Pan & Wendy makes major updates to Tiger Lily, including her speaking in a different language from the other characters for most of the film. J.M. Barrie's original Peter and Wendy play and novel have long been criticized for their portrayal of Native Americans. Disney's 1953 Peter Pan film faced the same criticism, particularly for the song "What Made the Red Man Red?" When faced with making a live-action adaptation, Disney knew they needed to do something different with Tiger Lily.

Peter Pan & Wendy's director David Lowery and co-writer Toby Halbrooks ensured their Tiger Lily would not be a racist stereotype or a damsel in distress. She plays a major role in helping Peter, Wendy, and the Lost Boys. When it comes to how she speaks and dresses, she is perhaps the most accurate portrayal of Native Americans in a Peter Pan adaptation.

J.M. Barrie
‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ Review: David Lowery’s Reimagining of a Children’s Classic Is Refreshing and Wearisome
J.M. Barrie
As written by J. M. Barrie in his original 1904 play, “Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up,” the century-old name Peter Pan has always been synonymous with a severe case of arrested development. More expressly, the fear of adulthood, the immature reluctance towards embracing the responsibilities and pains of being a grown-up, unable to gauge the earned rewards of such hardships.

So what could a 21st-century version of such arrested development look like? One that has something to say to today’s grown-ups both mesmerized and puzzled by a fiery younger generation vastly different than them, and today’s kids, being raised by an unprecedented sense of individuality? With “Peter Pan & Wendy,” soulful auteur David Lowery tries to find an answer with mixed results that’s fascinating and refreshing in parts and somewhat wearisome on the whole.

An expressive voice throughout his wide range of tales,...

‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ Premiere of the most “Classic” Disney
Image
Peter Pan & Wendy takes up again the most classic Disney in, precisely, its anniversary, with one of its most iconic stories.

This time with the appeal of giving us Jude Law as Captain Hook.

Peter Pan & Wendy is a film directed by David Lowery starring Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson.

Peter Pan & Wendy (2023) About the Movie

A perfect opportunity to revisit a classic and make slight modifications to it? Well, that seems to be the idea of Disney and its screenwriters (the film infobox lists no less than ten people on the team).

Peter Pan & Wendy is everything we saw in the 1953 animated version, what we relived with more magic in Spielberg’s Hook and now we return to it with Jude Law playing the bad guy.

There is nothing wrong with the film, except that we have already seen it and, if you are expecting...

Peter Pan & Wendy – Review
Image
It looks like kids’ movies are dominating the box office right now. Mind you, what looks to be the first billion-dollar blockbuster is based on a decades-old video game. But what about the classic fairy tales, you may ask? Not to worry, although it’s fairly young at a spry 121 years, as opposed to the centuries-old Grimm Brothers stories and assorted myths and legends. And it’s also the 70th anniversary of the definitive animated adaptation from the master artists at the “mouse house”. Ugh, you may be thinking, not another live-action retread of a superb cartoon ala the recent Pinocchio (not the Oscar-winner) or the dreary Dumbo. Well, you’re not really correct as this tale began (after its literary roots) on the stage and has been played by flesh-and-blood actors in versions going back to the silent movie days. And so, here’s another version, this time sharing...

‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ Review: Jude Law and Yara Shahidi Star in David Lowery’s Empathetic Portrayal of Neverland
Image
Peter Pan & Wendy, David Lowery’s humanizing interpretation of J.M. Barrie’s existential classic about the boy who refuses to grow up, speaks more to the inner child of jaded adults than it does to actual kids. This version of the fairytale grounds the fundamental wistfulness of the original tale with empathetic backstories and takes care to remedy the original’s overt racism and latent sexism.

Despite criticisms lodged at Lowery (The Green Knight) in the months leading up to this film’s release on Disney+, Peter Pan & Wendy keeps much intact. Lowery and his co-writer Toby Halbrooks have a firm grasp on the enduring qualities of Barrie’s story, which, as they correctly suggest throughout the film, has nothing to do with whether or not the gang of Lost Boys includes girls. Their rendition teases out the conflicts between Peter and Wendy, diversifies the mythic leader’s ragtag group...

Peter Pan & Wendy Review: A Gentle Remake That Tries To Soar
Image
In the summer of 2016, writer/director David Lowery pulled off what feels like a magic trick in retrospect: he made a Disney remake that was actually quite good. His take on "Pete's Dragon" may not have set the box office aflame, but his tender approach to a story about an orphaned boy in the forest with only a mammoth dragon for a friend resulted in a low-stakes but wonderful family adventure. Of course, the major reason why "Pete's Dragon" worked so well as a remake is that it eschewed almost everything aside from the aforementioned logline that's present in the 1977 original, from big musical numbers to con-artist bad guys. And "Pete's Dragon" was able to eschew those aspects because while the original has some fans, it's by no means one of Disney's biggest titles.

The same cannot be said for "Peter Pan & Wendy," Lowery's latest Disney remake, this time...

Peter Pan & Wendy: Cast, Story Changes & Everything We Know
Image
Disney's live-action Peter Pan & Wendy adaptation is on the way, and much has already been revealed about the movie's story, cast, and release date. The studio began developing the project in 2016 as a take on the animated 1953 Peter Pan film. That feature itself is based on the same original material of J. M. Barrie's 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, which has other names in addition to a 1904 play. Disney announced the official title for Peter Pan & Wendy back in January 2020, and since then there's been a steady trickle of news coming from the studio.

As one of the most beloved stories of all time, there have been several Peter Pan adaptations over the years, including books, comics, and dozens of stage productions. On the movie side, notable works include Steven Spielberg's 1991 film Hook, the 2003 Peter Pan novel adaptation, the origin story Pan, and Wendy, a 2020 reimagining from the title character's perspective.

Peter Pan And Wendy Trailer: Disney's Live-Action Remake Might Just Be A Winner
Image
David Lowery is a square peg who refuses to let Hollywood fit him into a round hole.

In the 10 years since the filmmaker broke out with "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" (the 2013 romantic crime drama that /Film's review describes as "Cormac McCarthy by way of 'The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford'"), Lowery has gone from helming acclaimed high art indie dramas to earnest Disney films and dream-like fantasy epics. His latest offering, "Peter Pan and Wendy," marks yet another hard pivot for Lowery, bringing him back into the world of live-action Disney remakes -- sorry, re-imaginings, as the House of Mouse insists on calling them -- for a new take on J.M. Barrie's fairy tale that looks to bring something genuinely fresh to the oft-told story, which would be quite the accomplishment in and of itself.

Officially said to be based on both Barrie...

Disney's Peter Pan & Wendy Completely Rewrites Tiger Lily, Ditching The Racist Stereotypes
Image
The numerous live-action Disney remakes released over the last decade have been pretty hit-or-miss, with most of them being forgettable at best (and "The Lion King" at worst). The Disney classics are classic in part because of their incredible animation, and trying to make that magic work in live-action can be truly challenging.

The other big challenge with adapting some of Disney's earlier films is that they're often, well, pretty racist. The 1953 film "Peter Pan," based on the plays "Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up" and "Peter Pan & Wendy" by J.M. Barrie, features an extended sequence where the Lost Boys of Neverland encounter a tribe of Indigenous people, who sing a song about "What Makes the Red Man Red." Almost every racist stereotype about Indigenous people is present, reducing them to caricatures who smoke peace pipes and threaten to burn the Lost Boys. The only one...

David Lowery's Peter Pan And Wendy Gives Us Hope For Live-Action Disney Remakes
Image
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Maybe.

Of all the Disney animated films turned live-action re-imaginings the Mouse House has churned out since striking box office gold with Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland", David Lowery's "Pete's Dragon" is one of the only ones I'm willing to go to bat for. In addition to improving on its predecessor, Lowery's film is the rare Disney live-action re-imagining that genuinely, well, re-imagines its source material. If it weren't for the presence of a boy named Pete and his giant green dragon pal Elliot, you wouldn't even realize the two movies were related.

Lowery's take on "Pete's Dragon" holds the peculiar distinction of being the second best-reviewed Disney live-action remake among critics on Rotten Tomatoes yet the lowest-grossing one released since 2010. This may, in part, also account for why Lowery's "Peter Pan and Wendy" --...

Jude Law Does His Best Captain Hook in Trailer for Disney’s Peter Pan and Wendy: Watch
Image
“Wendy Moira Angela Darling,” Jude Law growls as Captain Hook in the trailer for Disney’s new movie Peter Pan and Wendy. “Where is Peter Pan?”

That’s all we see of Law in the trailer, but the clip still teases a complete transformation of the 50-year-old actor into the menacing old pirate. From there, we see the character face off against Wendy (Ever Anderson), Peter (Alexander Molony), and a full team of lost boys as he exacts revenge for the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grew Up’s past shenanigans.

Black-ish star Yara Shahidi, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Joshua Pickering, Jacobi Jupe, Molly Parker, Alan Tudyk, and Jim Gaffigan round out the cast. David Lowery (who previously directed the critically acclaimed 2016 Pete’s Dragon) directed and co-wrote Peter Pan and Wendy, drawing from both J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play and Disney’s 1953 animated film. It debuts on Disney+ on April 28th.
