Koli

Film Review: Sector 36 (2024) by Aditya Nimbalkar
Image
The monstrosity of the Nithari serial murders of “Noida”, committed by Surinder Koli and his rich employer Moninder Singh Pandher in the so-called Sector 31 back in 2006 shook India to the core. More shocking was Koli’s cold-blooded confession about rape, mutilation, and cannibalism involving 19 victims out of which a majority were children. Both men spent years on death row after their conviction in 2009, to be surprisingly acquitted last year due to “lack of evidence”.

In his Netflix drama “Sector 36“. Aditya Nimbalkar hasn’t only changed the numerical symbol of the sector in which horrendous crimes took place, but he also turns an already gory and dark story into an even more chilling experience by exposing the blatant indifference of the officials to the disappearance of girls from the lowest cast. As it turns out, the plot of “Sector 36...

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah: Mandar Chandwadkar On Silence On Dilip Joshi & Asit Modi’s Rumored Fight(Photo Credit – YouTube)

Lately, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been grabbing the limelight for mostly negative reasons. In the past few months, a couple of actors left the show, leaving fans in shock. Recently, some rumors suggested a fight between Dilip Joshi and the show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. While Dilip himself shut down all such rumors, Mandar Chandwadkar has also reacted to such fallout stories.

A few days back, out of nowhere, we heard that everything was not well between Dilip and Asit. Rumors stated that a rift happened between them, and Dilip went on to grab the producer’s collar, threatening him about leaving Tmkoc. It was a big shocker to all fans, and the news spread like wildfire.

As soon as rumors stormed the internet, Dilip Joshi decided...

Real-Life Prem Singh In Netflix’s ‘Sector 36’: Did He Send Bassi’s CD Recording?
Image
The character of Prem, played by the fabulous Vikrant Massey, in Netflix’s latest Sector 36, can be said to be loosely based on the real-life psychopath, Surinder Koli, who made the headlines in 2006 after the remains of many kids were found in Noida Sector 31, near a village named Nithari. Surinder worked as a housekeeper at Moninder Singh Pandher’s residence, and it came to light that he had been killing people for approximately 2 years. Much of what’s shown in the film actually happened in real life, but Aditya Nimbalkar has altered a few events, added a few fictional plot lines, and dramatized the narrative, which is why we cannot say that Sector 36 is a faithful documentation of the Nithari murders. So, let’s find out what events shown in the film are inspired by real-life instances and where the filmmaker has taken certain creative liberty.

How Much Of It Is True?...

Real-Life Balbir Bassi In Netflix’s ‘Sector 36’ Movie
Image
Aditya Nimbalkar’s Sector 36 can be said to be inspired by the real-life Nithari case that shook the entire nation in the year 2006. I use the word “inspired” here because the filmmaker has dramatized the narrative and taken a few creative liberties, I believe, just so that the film does not run into any trouble and is treated merely as a work of fiction. The character of Balbir Singh Bassi takes its inspiration from Moninder Singh Pandher, one of the accused in the Nithari serial murder case. It was said that Pandher acted together with his housekeeper, Surinder Koli, and together, they killed approximately 17 kids (though there were rumors that the real number was even higher). We saw how, in the film, Bassi played with the system, made sure that the evidence against him never came to light, and got a clean chit when he was equally involved in the entire scheme of things.
