Danni Washington
Danni Washington is a renowned TV Personality and Science Communicator with 15+ years of experience. She made history as the first African-American woman to host a nationally syndicated science series called Xploration Nature Knows Best, which airs in nearly 95 million homes in the US on FOX.

With a diverse portfolio including "Deadly Sharks of Paradise" with Shark Week on Discovery, "Ocean Invaders" on PBS Nova, "Mission Unstoppable" on CBS, and "Strange Evidence" on the Science Channel, Danni engages audiences in STEM to educate the public on the importance of ocean conservation, STEM innovation, and environmentalism.

She has also hosted the podcast "The Genius Generation," which spotlights young innovators, and authored the book "Bold Women In Science," which celebrates 15 influential female scientists. Other notable projects include being a featured member of Amy Poehler's Smart Girls #STEM10 documentary series and co-starring alongside Jaden Smith in the educational outreach video for the film After Earth, which stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith.

As a public speaker, Danni's goal is to bridge the gap between the complex ideas of science and community understanding. She speaks on BIPOC Leadership in Ocean Conservation, Science Communication, and Gender Equality in STEAM.

After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science/Biology from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science, Danni co-founded a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization called the Big Blue & You, which is dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about marine conservation through the arts and media.

When she is not hosting, traveling or on location for a production, Danni is an avid scuba diver, paddle boarding enthusiast, and social media influencer. As her alter ego, the "Mocha Mermaid," Danni makes appearances all over the world, educating children about conservation and the magnificence of our oceans.

Danni continues to educate the public on the importance of ocean conservation, STEM innovation, and environmentalism using mediums that acutely connect science, arts and media.

Being a science communicator is important because representation matters. As the first African-American woman to host her own science television show, I think about the millions of young girls who might be thinking about pursuing a career in STEM and simply need to connect with role models that look like them to believe that it's possible.

As we face challenges like climate change and ocean pollution, it's important that there is a real connection and line of communication between the general public and the science community. Sometimes, there seems to be a disconnect between the two and not enough conversation about what scientists are discovering today. When we have those conversations between the general public and the science community, that's when change will happen.

As a science communicator, I can be the catalyst that can help make that change for the better. Plus, it's a lot of FUN being a science communicator!
