Glenn Close’s Obscene ‘The Deliverance’ Line Spawns Memes, Makeup Tutorials | Video
Image
The Lee Daniels-directed Netflix film “The Deliverance” entered its second week of release this week and reactions to the film’s premise — which is based on a true story — have remained strong and hilarious… as well as reactions to a certain line from Glenn Close and what she could smell.

In an interview released by Netflix, Daniels himself admitted that he doesn’t watch his movies again after he leaves the editing room. “The only time I see them now is when they are memeable,” he explained.

That may make this the Daniels project he’s watched the most.

TikTok user @davidinterlude called out one of the movie’s more meme-able moments. “I’m not seeing any think pieces on ‘The Deliverance’ movie… that line?” He later added that this could be “because we’re all tapped out.”

Where to Watch ‘The Deliverance’? (Streaming Release Date)
Image
The Deliverance is one of the most anticipated horror films of 2024. Directed by Lee Daniels from a screenplay co-written by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum, the Netflix mystery horror film is inspired by a true story known as the Ammons haunting case. The real story on which the film is based took place in Gary, Indiana in 2011 and it revolved around Latoya Ammons, her mother, Rosa Campbell, and her three children.

The real has been changed to make the film good and not boring but there are many scenes in the film that are based on Ammons’ claims, one of which is the one where a child crawls backward up a hospital wall.

The Terrifying Real Case That Inspired Netflix's 'The Deliverance'
Image
The new Netflix horror film The Deliverance made a splash over Labor Day Weekend and is currently contending for the top spot on the platform. The Lee Daniels film is notable for its Black-majority cast, demon possession narrative in the lane of The Exorcist and The Conjuring, and Glenn Close's iconic wigs. But this haunted house movie is more than a Hollywood creation; it comes with a frightening backstory. The Deliverance is directly inspired by the Ammons family haunting, a case of demonic possession that occurred in 2011 in Gary, Indiana. The real-life story centers around Latoya Ammons, her mother, Rosa Campbell, and her three children. While Daniels takes artistic license to tell a more sensationalized version of the events, many details in The Deliverance draw directly from the Ammons case notes.

Glenn Close Says People Warned Her ‘The Deliverance’ Director Was Crazy: ‘For Me, That’s a Compliment’
Image
Glenn Close collaborated with Lee Daniels for the first time on their new horror film “The Deliverance,” and in an interview with Radio Andy, she said colleagues warned her about the director that “he’s crazy.” That only pushed Close to work with him more.

“For me, that’s a compliment,” the Academy Award nominee said. “A lot of times when people in this business say someone’s crazy it means they don’t suffer fools, and it means they have a vision and it doesn’t always go along with the crowd.”

Close complimented the director for creating an inclusive environment on set. The “Fatal Attraction” star said Daniels would encourage the cast to gather around the monitor after a difficult take. She said most directors would not open themselves up to criticism in the way Daniels did.

“It was one of the most inclusive, creative, challenging, fun experiences of my career,...

The Haunting True Story Behind Netflix’s ‘The Deliverance’
Image
The Lee Daniels-directed, Glenn Close and Andra Day-starring Netflix movie “The Deliverance” is getting a lot of attention for that scene (more on this later), but there’s also something else to take note of about the film: much like many a demonic possession movie that’s come before it, this one is “inspired by true events.” But what are those true events? And how much is “The Deliverance” a true story?

The movie is an imagining of what Latoya Ammons, her three kids, and her mother Rosa Campbell said they experienced at their home in Indiana in 2011, as detailed in a 2014 piece published by the Indianapolis Star.

Ammons and her children all claimed they were possessed by demons, and were so convincing that the late Gary police Capt. Charles Austin eventually conceded that after many home visits and interviews, “I am a believer.”

The True Ghost Story Behind Netflix's The Deliverance: The Ammons Haunting Case Explained
Image
Warning! This post contains spoilers for The Deliverance.

In its opening moments itself, The Deliverance establishes that it is based on a true story. This makes it hard not to wonder what happened to the real family that experienced the events of the film and how they dealt with the central hauntings. It also raises several questions about whether the movie closely follows the real-life events it was inspired by or takes creative liberties to overly dramatize what happened. Given how the horrors the central Jackson family experiences in The Deliverance are terrifying, it is worth exploring how the film balances fact and fiction.

Directed by Lee Daniels, the Netflix horror movie stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Caleb McLaughlin, Anthony B. Jenkins, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as its primary characters. While the film has not performed too well among critics, its "based on a true story" motif makes its demonic possessions...

Real-Life Ebony And Andre Jackson In ‘The Deliverance’ Movie: Where Are They Now?
Image
After watching Netflix’s The Deliverance for the third time, I am quite certain that there wasn’t any demon involved at all. Instead, it was the story of a traumatized mother imagining things around her, and the allegedly haunted house just made things scarier. Maybe the house reminded Ebony Jackson of her mother Alberta’s old house, where she was sexually assaulted by one of her mother’s boyfriends. Furthermore, Ebony, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, had been physically assaulting and cussing at her children from the very beginning of the film. It only implied that her mental condition was deteriorating due to economic pressure. In the absence of the father, Ebony wasn’t actually taking care of the kids, but she didn’t want to accept the truth. And the story of the real-life Ebony Jackson, Latoya Ammons, was no different.

In 2009, before Latoya had moved into the house in Gary,...

The Deliverance: Did A Demon Kill Real-Life Alberta And Bernice James?
Image
Glenn Close’s character Alberta single-handedly saved Netflix’s The Deliverance from being a total bore. And even though she wasn’t given much screen time, one can understand the impact of her presence due to the fact that the entire film fell flat as soon as [spoiler alert] Alberta died. I know many of you reading the article might be wondering who actually killed her and if her real-life counterpart Rosa Campbell met a similar fate. Well, not really. But Rosa, too, was attacked by her grandkid, Andrew, a few times, when he was 7 years old. The Ammons family believed that their three kids had been possessed by some kind of demon residing in their haunted house. Thankfully, the family was finally saved after multiple exorcisms performed by a local priest in Gary named Father Michael Maginot, who loosely inspired the character of Apostle Bernice James in the Netflix film. And yes,...

‘The Deliverance’ True Story, Explained: What Happened To Real-Life Ebony Jackson?
Image
Netflix’s The Deliverance, directed by Lee Daniels, is not entirely based on a true story but is loosely based on a local family that lived in a haunted house located in Gary, Indiana, for approximately a year. Latoya Ammons, the real-life counterpart of Ebony Jackson, had moved into the old rental house with her mother, Rosa Campbell (Glenn Close’s character), and her three kids. The names of all these real-life people have been changed in the Netflix film to protect their identity. And not just the names of the people; even the location of the film has been changed to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for creative reasons.

Coming back to the true story, the Ammons family moved into the “Demon House” in November 2011, soon after which they started hearing strange footsteps on the basement stairs and even saw shadowy figures in their living room. As per the reports, the house...
