Jay Gilbert Conning is a Scottish director, actor and video editor who developed a love for the creative arts at an early age, consuming decades of pop culture and watching fan films online, he borrowed his father's camcorder in 2005 to make homemade short films with close relatives and friends. In 2008 he started his first YouTube channel Conning Pictures with an emphasis on producing low-budget films that Jay himself would write, direct, edit and often star in. Known for his fan films based on the Halloween franchise, Conning's most viral short was Slender Man Redux based on the 2012 survival horror game Slender: The Eight Pages. In 2019, Conning began composing music and produced the soundtrack for most of his short films in 2020.
Academically, Conning primarily studied fine art, attaining his diploma at Ayrshire College in 2017 and graduated from the University of the West of Scotland in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Art and Design.
