- Actor
- Producer
- Director
Gilberto Giles-Sosa is a bilingual actor and filmmaker focused on building a career in film and television. His approach to storytelling and character development is enhanced by his background in directing and producing, giving him a deep understanding of storytelling.
His acting journey began at 12 years old when he and his mother heard a casting call on the radio in Houston. That opportunity took him to Los Angeles, where he secured an agent and auditioned for various roles as a child actor. Throughout junior high and high school, he gained extensive stage experience, starring in musicals, plays, and choir. He also developed his on-camera skills in broadcast journalism, cinematography, and editing, producing the weekly school news at a public high school in Houston before earning a spot at Episcopal High School, a private institution, where he joined a small group of students in an advanced film program designed to prepare them for top film schools, recognized for his academic and creative abilities.
His passion for storytelling led him to write and direct his own work, and in his senior year, his short film earned a selection at SXSW 2016 in the Texas High School category, giving him early exposure to the festival circuit. Initially planning to attend the University of Texas-Austin on a full-ride scholarship, he spent the summer in Los Angeles, where he connected with cinematographer Brad Rushing, who became his first mentor and helped him expand his industry perspective. He began working as a production assistant on indie and commercial sets before landing an internship with Team 10, where he quickly rose to full-time content producer, creating content for influencers with tens of millions of followers. Seeing firsthand the success of other young creatives in the industry and receiving encouragement to pursue his career immediately, he made the difficult decision to cancel his scholarship just a week before orientation and remain in Los Angeles to gain hands-on experience.
He later joined Wayfarer Studios as an official social media producer, before relocating to Mexico City, where he produced Spanish-language content for major Mexican celebrities. During this period, he became a cast member and producer for the Dosogas Team, contributing to the Spanish-speaking YouTube collective that amassed over a billion views before its dissolution. Through Dosogas, he gained firsthand experience in content strategy, consistency, and audience engagement, helping him build a social media following of over 1.5 million across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. The project led to a sold-out Latin American tour, where he performed for thousands of fans in Argentina, with the tour continuing with sold-out shows in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and several other countries. Following his time with Dosogas, he transitioned into building his own platform, where he reached half a million YouTube subscribers. This exposure also led to brand deals, event invitations, celebrity collaborations, and inquiries for management and movie roles, further expanding his career beyond digital content. During this time, he also starred in a horror feature film shot in Bogotá, Colombia, though the project was ultimately shelved after production.
Returning to Los Angeles in 2019, he resumed work as a director and photographer, collaborating with actors including Michael Cimino, Asante Blackk, Angus Cloud, and Algee Smith. That same year, Riveting Entertainment backed his first financed short film, "First Timers," which went viral, accumulating over 50 million views on YouTube. Later that month, he and his collaborators independently produced and released "La Sangrienta Navidad," a Spanish-language short on Christmas Day 2019, which also gained viral success, surpassing 1 million views and reaching tens of thousands of views within its first few hours.
By 2020, theatrical talent managers recognized his acting potential and growing social media presence, bringing him opportunities to audition for major TV and film roles with top streaming platforms. While he remained open to these auditions, he had not yet fully committed to acting as his main career focus.
During this time, he continued expanding his creative work. He directed, produced, and edited over 20 music videos for artists including HRVY, Estevie, Giselle Torres, Matt Sato, and Johann Vera, with productions spanning Japan, Mexico, and the U.S.. Later in 2020, he directed "Unprecedented," a short film based on a true story about an inmate's experience during the pandemic, featuring Christopher Uckermann, Julio Bracho, and Esmeralda Soto.
After successfully launching Compa Studios in 2021, an entertainment company supporting emerging Latinx creators, he took a step back to reflect on his own creative aspirations. Having spent years supporting others' dreams, he recognized a deeper personal calling-acting. In March 2023, he reignited his passion for acting, committing to serious training and actively pursuing roles.
So he pursued his career by training with Susan Batson and Carl Ford, whose methods have shaped the performances of some of the industry's most critically acclaimed actors. The experience deepened his artistic commitment and refined his approach to performance. In 2024, he continued developing his craft at The Markland Studio in Los Angeles, training under John Markland, whose approach has guided a new generation of actors known for their raw and transformative performances.
As of 2025, he is producing and acting in multiple film projects across the U.S. and Mexico, with a primary focus on securing his first lead role in a critically acclaimed indie feature-whether through casting or producing his own work. With aspirations akin to multi-hyphenates like Issa Rae and Donald Glover, he remains dedicated to both acting and creating new film and TV projects in the early years of his career. His next steps include signing with a forward-thinking agent who recognizes his multi-faceted strengths.
