Odessa A'zion Goes Pool-Hopping in Indie Film 'Pools' Official Trailer
Image
"Free is happy." "It's so unclear." Utopia has debuted the trailer for an indie film titled Pools, opening in select theaters later in August coming soon. The film premiered last year at a few festivals including SXSW Sydney. Pools is a coming-of-age indie comedy made by filmmaker Sam Hayes originally from Chicago. He says: "The original title of Pools was Pools at Night. And that image speaks very simply to what first drew me to the premise of this movie – the magic of a glowing blue pool at night... [It's] very much inspired by the movies John Hughes made in this same area in the 80s—Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club—some of my favorites ever. I wanted to make a movie like that, but about pool-hopping, which I find so quintessentially coming-of-age." Starring Odessa A'zion (aka Odessa Adlon), Mason Gooding, Ariel Winter, Tyler Alvarez, Francesca Noel, Michael Vlamis,...

Disney+ Cancels Fan-Favorite Horror Show After 2 Seasons
Image
Despite a strong Season 2 premiere, Disney+’s teen horror anthology series, Goosebumps, won’t be getting a third season. Goosebumps: The Vanishing premiered in January 2025 and, upon its debut, was in the top 10 on both Disney+ and Hulu.

Per Variety, Disney+ has canceled Goosebumps, but there may still be hope for the horror series based on R.L. Stine’s book series. The show, which originally debuted in October 2023, featured a 10-episode first season. Its second season, airing in January 2025, consisted of eight episodes and an entirely new cast and story.

The outlet reports that an individual with close knowledge of the show’s situation believes that Sony Pictures Television, which produces Goosebumps, plans to shop the show around to other streamers and possibly explore “different creative directions for the IP.”

In two seasons, Goosebumps brought in 75 million hours viewed in the U.S. as well as an additional 43 hours viewed in 16 worldwide markets.

Disney+ just canceled this acclaimed horror series, and we saw it coming
Image
Nobody likes cancellations. The word itself will make your skin crawl. But sadly, this is what we're currently faced with. In 2025, Disney+ has renewed more shows than it has canceled. In fact, the only show the streaming giant has axed was the highly anticipated Tiana series. Well, that's until now. Unfortunately, Disney+ has just given the boot to the acclaimed horror anthology Goosebumps after two thrilling seasons.

This news is a huge disappointment to fans who had hoped the spooky adaptation of R.L. Stine’s beloved books would continue to deliver chills and eerie tales. But for us, we saw it coming. The signs were there. Although both seasons 1 and 2 were received well by critics and viewers alike, it's been almost seven months since the second season's release and there’s been an unmistakable silence.

‘Goosebumps’ Canceled at Disney+ After Two Seasons
Image
Disney+ is no longer feeling Goosebumps.

The streamer has canceled its Goosebumps series, based on the enduringly popular books by R.L. Stine, after two seasons. The most recent season, subtitled The Vanishing, premiered in January.

Sony Pictures TV, which owns the rights to Stine’s books and produced the series, will shop Goosebumps to other outlets and also look for other creative directions for the property. There are more than 200 stories in Stine’s original Goosebumps books, spinoff series and short story collections.

Goosebumps on Disney+ was an anthology series. The first season premiered on Disney+ in October 2023 — a few weeks before Halloween — and performed solidly, ranking among Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series for four weeks. Season two debuted in January and didn’t do as well, never making the Nielsen charts.

To date, sources say, viewers have watched 118 million hours of Goosebumps worldwide — 75 million in the United States and 43 million in 16 international markets.

Goosebumps The Vanishing TV Review: David Schwimmer leads a fun and scary second season
Image
Plot: Begins with fraternal twins Devin and Cece adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.

Review: Growing up, I was slightly too old to enjoy Goosebumps. While I was graduating from Christopher Pike novels and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series to the more mature novels of Stephen King, tons of kids entered the gateway horror of Stine’s fun brand of scary stories to tell in the dark. The anthology series was a hit with kids looking for a good scare, and the big-screen films starring Jack Black amped up the comedy for a big-budget adventure. Disney+ and Hulu’s reboot of the franchise was a successful, scary take on the source material back in 2023, and this year’s sophomore entry is equally good.

R.L. Stine Reveals What “Shocked” Him About ‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ & Which Book He Wants Adapted Next
Image
While the horror genre continues to evolve onscreen, the stories of R.L. Stine are spooking audiences of a whole new generation.

In Sony Pictures Television‘s Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Season 2 of the Disney+ anthology adaptation from Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, the author’s works come to life onscreen once again in a whole new setting, the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn.

“I’m shocked by it,” Stine told Deadline. “I have a superstition. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, in a suburb, so most of the Goosebumps books take place in the backyard, a suburban backyard, which I think most kids can identify with.”

Still, the beloved children’s book scribe says the new season of Goosebumps “looks nice” after filming in Brooklyn and Queens.

Largely inspired by Stay Out of the Basement (1992), Stine’s second entry in the Goosebumps series, The Vanishing follows twins Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece...

Goosebumps: The Vanishing's Letterman & Winston On Anthology Season, Casting David Schwimmer & Choosing Books
Image
Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston are taking their R.L. Stine-based hit show in a new direction with Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Letterman, whose history with the franchise goes back to directing the 2015 Jack Black-led movie adaptation of the horror novels, co-developed the show with Nicholas Stoller, whose filmography ranges from helming the fan-favorite comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall to co-creating and directing the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy show Platonic. Winston, whose producorial career took off with My Name is Earl, was a co-showrunner with Letterman and Stoller on season 1 and is now sole showrunner on the new season.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing shifts the focus away from the season 1 finale and to New York City, putting its focus on botanist and single father Anthony as his twin teen children come to stay with him for the summer. Anthony, having been focused on discovering the answers to his brother's disappearance when they were teenagers,...

Goosebumps: The Vanishing's David Schwimmer On Jumping From Comedy To Horror & Chilling Transformation

David Schwimmer is venturing into the chilling world of horror for the first time in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Though having worked steadily through the early '90s in recurring and supporting roles in both film and TV, Schwimmer quickly became a household name thanks to his turn as Ross Geller in the hit sitcom Friends, a role he played for all 10 seasons, and earned an Emmy nomination for. The years since have seen him explore a wide variety of genres, including the true-story-based The People vs. O.J. Goosebumps: The Vanishing promises to include more than a few scares when Season 2 of the anthology series premieres on Disney+. However, David Schwimmer, who will lead an all-new cast, recently revealed that his biggest fear comes from real life.

"What gives me goosebumps in real life, not watching a movie or something, is when you are looking for your car at night in an underground parking lot, and you suddenly have that moment of, 'I don't know where my car is, and I'm utterly alone in this parking lot,'" Schwimmer told GamesRadar+. "I hope I'm not the only person who's experienced that. But then you hear some sound, but you don't know where it came from, and then you're just like, 'Oh, Ok; I hope I find my car.'"

Goosebumps: The Vanishing Review – David Schwimmer Shines In YA Horror Mystery
Image
The 2023 Goosebumps reboot series was a pleasant surprise for me. Despite my nostalgic love for both the original books and the campy charm of the 1990s TV show, I never figured that a more serious attempt on the material would be able to feel genuinely scary while staying true to the franchise’s iconic roots. And yet that’s exactly what they did.

The ensemble cast was compelling, the stakes felt real, and the cliffhanger ending left me eager to see what this creative team had in store for the second season. However, Goosebumps: The Vanishing opts to not address that ending at all and instead tell a completely new story with a new set of characters in a new setting. And while the story they tell isn’t bad, it definitely leaves something to be desired. Though please keep in mind that this only applies to the first six episodes,...

New Fear Street Movie Gets First Look, Netflix Release Window

Next year, a fourth installment in the Fear Street franchise will be released on Netflix. The upcoming movie, titled Fear Street: Prom Queen will adapt the 1992 novel of the same name by acclaimed children's horror author R. L. Stine.

Netflix released the first poster for Fear Street: Prom Queen on its official X account, which shows Shadyside High's schoolyard covered in fog. The school's Marquee sign reads, "Shadyside High School Senior Prom '88," however, the "D", "I," and "E" in "Shadyside" are in red, spelling out a message that will surely frighten those it is meant for: "Die." Trailer: Goosebumps: The Vanishing warns you to stay out of the basement
Image
If Goosebumps is going to have a revival, we are all in for it. So many of us grew up on R.L. Stine’s spooky spines, collecting haunted masks and staying out of the basement. With strong enough ratings and reviews, word came a few months after the first season’s conclusion that a sophomore season would officially mark it as an anthology. Now, we have the official trailer for what has been dubbed Goosebumps: The Vanishing.

As per Disney, Goosebumps: The Vanishing “begins when twins Cece and Devin Brewer are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. Now, in honor of New York Comic Con, Disney+ and Hulu have released the official Goosebumps season 2 trailer. The video begins by introducing twin siblings, Cece and Devin, as they meet their dad, David Schwimmer's Anthony, to spend the summer with him in Brooklyn. Disney announces when Goosebumps: The Vanishing drops on Disney+
Image
Goosebumps is coming back for Season 2 on Disney+ and we’ve got details on The Vanishing!

Disney+ (like many streamers) has had a bad habit of canceling some fun shows after just one season: Willow, American Born Chinese, Renegade Nell and even Star Wars: The Acolyte. So it says something that Goosebumps was renewed for a second season over more high-profile shows.

It helps the show has a built-in fanbase, based on the long-running young adult horror books by R.L. Stine. It focused on a pack of teens who are haunted by a twisted spirit that ties into a crime committed by their parents and integrating parts of several of the books. The show was a good success, earning a second season.

However, rather than bringing back the original cast, the series will take on an anthology approach. Thus, Season 2 has a brand new title and storyline, subtitled The Vanishing.
