Evil Dead Rise is Coming to Netflix, and Bruce Campbell Has Some Advice for Viewers
Image
Evil Dead Rise, the latest sequel in the Evil Dead universe, is crawling its way to Netflix in September, and franchise star Bruce Campbell has got some advice for those who still haven't seen it yet. The film, released in 2023, was a refreshing take on the demonic horror franchise created by Sam Raimi in the 1980s, and has reinvigorated the franchise enough for two new movies to already be in development.

Using X/Twitter, Campbell addressed Evil Dead Rise's arrival on Netflix by posting the following advice to his fans: "Hide the children. Seriously." Campbell was responsible for giving life to Ash Williams, the main character of the franchise in the first three Evil Dead films and the TV series Ash vs Evil Dead. He has also participated as a producer in the more recent films, and looks set to continue this role in future.

Lee Cronin Talks Evil Dead Rise's Unique Challenges, Expanding Deadite Lore & More
Image
Horror fans' favorite playful demons are making their way to shelves with Evil Dead Rise. The latest installment in the Sam Raimi-created franchise centers on a world-weary woman who visits her single-mother sister and her children while in the midst of a crisis, only for the discovery of the infamous Naturom Demonto to unleash the haunting Deadite curse upon them and the crumbling L.A. apartment they're in.

Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland lead the cast of Evil Dead Rise alongside Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Nell Fisher, Noah Paul, Richard Crouchley, Mirabai Pease, and Anna-Maree Thomas. Written and directed by The Hole in the Ground's Lee Cronin, the movie marks the second Evil Dead to not be helmed by Raimi, and yet the new voice behind it finds a way to hold its own against its acclaimed predecessors.

‘Evil Dead Rise’ – Did You Notice the New Character Names Pay Homage to Past Franchise Stars?
Image
Ten years ago, the characters in Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead were cleverly given first names that allowed the first letters of each of their names to spell out Demon – David, Eric, Mia, Olivia, Natalie – and Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise has similarly hidden some Easter Eggs within the characters’ names. Every character in the new movie is named after a past Evil Dead star!

Here’s the full main character roster, and the stars their names pay tribute to…

Evil Dead Rise scares up $2.5M in Thursday preview screenings
Image
Sometimes, dead is better, especially at the box office. The latest chapter of the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise, rose to $2.5M in Thursday preview screenings at the domestic box office. While it’s a groovy start for a horror film, it’s important to remember the weekend is just beginning, and theatergoers love a good scare. Friday crowds will likely fill seats for the Lee Cronin-directed horror film, with young adults and mature audiences making up most of the ticket sales.

As promising as Evil Dead Rise looks, The Super Mario Bros. Movie could level up again at the box office with $45 million to $50 million in its third weekend. The Super-Mushroom-powered animated film has already made $724 million worldwide and is well on its way to making $1 billion in gold coins. In addition to making money at the box office, Illumination’s Super Mario movie has a knock-on effect regarding video game sales.

‘The Peacemakers’ Review
Image
Stars: Noah Paul, Kylah Carree, Rick Didham, Thomas MacKinnon, Craig Hubert, Kevin Powe, Erica Kroger, Aaron Catano-Saez, Dave Luukkonen | Written and Directed by Svyatoslav Nikitin

The Peacemakers is a slightly unusual low-budget sci-fi movie for a lot of reasons. One of the main reasons is that it’s pretty damn good and full of ideas, although you wouldn’t get that from the synopsis alone.

The Peacemakers themselves are two mysterious figures dressed all in black – long coats, trousers, boots and hats, along with black bandages covering their entire faces – who arrive on Earth to hunt for a renegade. But there’s much more to their visit and the whole fate of the planet is in their hands.

The real stand out feature of the movie is how it looks. It has a very unique style which heavily involves light and colour. The three main characters themselves – the two ‘partners...

New Trailer for New Zealand Sci-Fi Fantasy Film 'The Peacemakers'
The Peacemakers (2021)
"The fabric of the universe hangs by a very thin thread." Wild Eye Releasing has unveiled the official US trailer for a wacky, homemade sci-fi comedy from New Zealand called The Peacemakers. This is actually made by a Russian filmmaker named Svyatoslav Nikitin, who doesn't have any other credits of note before. In the film, two mysterious figures arrive on earth to hunt down a renegade and determine the fate of the planet. The tagline: "Saving the galaxy, one sh**hole at a time." There's some clever style with their outfits and a few impressive low budget VFX shots, but overall this seems a bit lackluster. Starring Noah Paul, Rick Didham, Kylah Carree, and Thomas MacKinnon. I'll admit that everything about this makes me curious (especially as a sci-fi geek) but this is such a bad trailer it almost makes me not interested. Oh well. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Svyatoslav Nikitin's The Peacemakers,...
