CNN CEO Chris Licht Exposed: Five Takeaways From Bombshell Profile
Image
On June 2, The Atlantic published a deeply reported look at the rocky tenure of Chris Licht, who took over as chair and CEO of CNN Worldwide last year. The colorful 15,000-word profile features his unvarnished opinions, as well as intimate access, including a morning session with the polarizing executive’s physical trainer, who Licht refers to as his “one-man focus group.”

Staff writer Tim Alberta drew out his subject over a period of months, during which an embattled Licht has dealt with a series of tumultuous episodes at CNN, including anchor Don Lemon’s departure and a poorly received town hall event with former president Donald Trump. The article portrays a brash manager struggling to lead the news division of a media conglomerate amid widespread distrust among his rank-and-file while also catering to the whims of his own fickle, meddling boss: Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav.

These days, rigorous,...

A Democratic Survival Guide to the New House GOP Majority
Image
Hakeem Jeffries (D-n.Y.), the soon-to-be House minority leader, has been telling his fellow Democratic lawmakers to think of the next two years this way: The White House is the client, House Democrats are the defense attorney. Indeed, the Biden administration has huddled a coterie of legal, legislative, and communications specialists to map out likely vectors of GOP oversight and will hire more into the effort. Ashley Etienne, who led House Democrats’ impeachment war room, has dispatched top protégés to communications posts at federal agencies Republicans have indicated they’re...

Sean Spicer Says He’s “Not Changing”; Neither Is The Backlash To His ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Casting
Sean Spicer
Sean Spicer probably did himself no favors with his comment to CNN that he’s “not changing,” and that his casting as a contestant on ABC’s upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars might help “move the country forward in a positive way.”

Critics on Twitter weren’t ready to tango.

“Why doesn’t Sean Spicer understand we don’t like him?,” wrote Saturday Night Live‘s Chris Redd. “We like Melissa McCarthy playing you. You aren’t it, Chief.”

Said culture critic and former MSNBC host Touré, “I wonder if Sean Spicer is like damn, Sanders got a real job, and I’m over here on Dancing With The Has-Beens.”

On NBC News’ Think website, contributor Kurt Bardella writes today that Spicer’s on-the-job White House “falsehoods would graduate from the trivial to matters of great importance and severity.”

“By inviting Spicer to be a part of the new season,...

Pete Buttigieg Interview with Country Radio Host Stopped from Airing
Country radio host Blair Garner describes himself as “not a political guy,” but when Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg reached out and asked for an interview on his show, “The Blair Garner Show,” the host agreed and invited him to his studio in Nashville where they spoke for twenty minutes. But when Garner wanted to air the interview, Cumulus Media, which nationally syndicates Garner’s show, blocked it from being broadcast at all.

Garner, unhappy with Cumulus’s decision, posted a Soundcloud link to the interview on Twitter and composed...
