Lacey Uhlemeyer is a writer-director whose work combines sharp observation, grounded emotional arcs, and a signature blend of humor and humanity. With roots in journalism and documentary, she brings real-world texture to every story she tells.
Born and raised in Missouri, Lacey Uhlemeyer took an unconventional path to filmmaking. As a former international journalist, she brings a unique lens of empathy to her directing. Her storytelling journey has taken her to over 22 countries.
Lacey recently wrote and directed her first narrative feature film, Maintenance Required, for Amazon MGM, currently in post-production. The film follows Charlie (Madelaine Petsch) as she confronts the future of her beloved all-female mechanic shop. As she seeks connection on an online car forum, she unknowingly confides in her real-life business rival, Beau (Jacob Scipio).
She is also in post-production on her first documentary feature, The Dancer, which chronicles the poignant story of Ahmad Joudeh, a gay Syrian dancer facing profound struggles. Condemned for his sexuality, threatened by ISIS, and abused by his father, Ahmad's journey explores his quest for true freedom after finding asylum and international recognition.
In 2020, Lacey was recognized as one of 35 filmmakers in SHOOT Magazine's prestigious New Directors Showcase
