Synopsis
Prof. Simran S Kaler is an Independent Film maker and native of India. He has been working for the past fifteen years as a Director, Screen-writer, Cinematographer and Editor. Kaler's work has diversity like dealing with role of government in improving the condition of society to water pollution, from bounded labors to use of poison in food, from folktales to demonetization, from poems to prose inventing the Documentary type "Docuempathy"
Early Career A film maker as a child, Kaler started writing poems in 6th std. Itself which was published in a newspaper too. This proved to be the first motivation and resulted in creating short stories which used to be regularly published in Punjab Government's two children magazines "Primary Sikhia" and "Pankhuria". He has also tackled Punjabi Children Literature by writing 9 books like "Kakroon Karoon" consists (2 plays), "Chichli Chukander Di Saer" (Novel, "Dada Ji De Chamatkar (Stories) etc. "Sammi" is the book which was also awarded by Langauge Department of Punjab.
Kaler's career took another step when he studied Mass Communication and Journalism (Post Graduation)and became editor of college magazine. Soon, career as documentary film-maker began and Kaler created appx. 50 documentaries like Punjab vs Pesticide, Buddhism in Punjab, Wrestling in Punjab, Five rivers still thirsty, Early hockers, Catastrophe of Jalian Wala Bagh, In search of Freedom and many more which deals with social, political, environmental and health issues.
Cinematic Highlights Kaler's earlier short film "Death of Religion (2016)" which explores the religious chaos in the democracy of India was followed by "Us Paar (2015)" which teaches us the appropriate of living life from disabled people, "The teacher(2016)", on the other hand, is an inspirational film. "Yaha Peshaab Karna Mana Hai (2016)" was part of Swacchh Bharat Abhiyan and Circle (2016) is selected in International Film Festival, Toronto. In 2017, Kaler directed one more short film Poem vs Poet (2017) which depicts demonetization in India. Kaler is working on two films "Ayaat" in which a Kashmiri girl and Punjabi boy represent two states. Another film "Manukhta" based on Manusmriti.
