Spider-Man Villains That Could Never Work on the Big Screen
Image
Spider-Man has given audiences some iconic villains and epic big-screen battles, but there are those among the webhead's rogues who'd never work in the movies. Adaptations tend to be tricky as writers attempt to retell classic stories in an entirely different medium without having as much time, context, and the benefit of an audience knowing who all of their characters are. As a superhero, Spider-Man encounters numerous challenges from his adversaries, but sharing a screen with them becomes an additional struggle due to convoluted retcons, disturbing backstories, and perplexing creative choices in general.

After becoming one of the most successful superhero movies ever, Spider-Man spawned multiple sequels, reboots, spinoffs, and a place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having featured legendary antagonists such as the Green Goblin and Dr. Octopus, to more obscure villains like the Spot, Spider-Man's movies still provide infinite opportunities for stories as the franchise expands and his legacy continues.

Bad Bunny joins Austin Butler for Darren Aronofsky’s former baseball player turned criminal thriller Caught Stealing
Image
Who’s on first? It’s Bad Bunny! The Puerto Rican rapper, singer, record producer, and actor is getting out on the field alongside Austin Butler for Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming crime thriller Caught Stealing.

Based on Charlie Huston’s novel Caught Stealing, which revolves around Hank Thompson (Butler), a down-and-out former baseball player locked in a battle for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ’90s New York City. Bad Bunny joins Butler, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Will Brill for Caught Stealing, though we do not know who he’s playing.

Bad Bunny is an entertainer and musician who wears many hats. His latest album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and soared on the Spotify chart, becoming the most-streamed single-day and weekly album. Caught Stealing finds Bad Bunny back in business with Sony after the...

10 Sony Spider-Man Universe Problems 2024’s Cancelled Movie Could Have Solved
Image
El Muerto could have properly introduced Spider-Man to the Sony Spider-Man Universe, bridging the gap between the character and its villains. El Muerto had the potential to reestablish the tone of the Sony Spider-Man Universe, offering a more lighthearted and colorful approach. Bad Bunny's star power could have brought in a brand-new audience to the comic book movie fold, expanding the Sony Spider-Man Universe's reach.

January 2024 was supposed to have been the release date for the Sony Marvel movie El Muerto, and there were several problems that it could have solved before it got canceled. After being announced in April 2022, El Muerto was initially planned to star Puerto Rican musician and actor Bad Bunny and depict the story of the Mexican luchador granted powers by his mask. Since then, the movie has been pulled from Sony's production schedule, and Bad Bunny has all but confirmed that the movie is no longer in production.

El Muerto: Release Date, Cast & Everything We Know
Image
El Muerto movie may have been canceled, as the lead actor, Bad Bunny, indicated uncertainty about what to say regarding its status, and the film was removed from Sony's release slate. Sony initially confirmed El Muerto in April 2022 with a release date of January 12, 2024, and Bad Bunny was instrumental in getting the movie greenlit. Although there is no trailer for El Muerto and recent updates suggest it may never be released, there is still a chance it could come to fruition in the future.

With Sony announcing that El Muerto will be part of the Sony Spider-Man Universe (Ssu), details about its release date and cast have been revealed. The Ssu started in 2018 with the blockbuster hit Venom, which was a phenomenal success despite many criticisms and made $856 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). Although Sony released Venom: Let the Be Carnage and Morbius shortly after - and they...

El Muerto: Bad Bunny taps out of starring in Sony and Marvel’s undated superhero film
Image
Ring the bell and make the count because Bad Bunny is tapping out of Sony and Marvel’s El Muerto, a superhero project the studio recently stripped from its calendar of upcoming releases. Sony Pictures removed El Muerto from its forthcoming slate in June. The Jonas Cuarón-directed Spider-Man spinoff would have served as the first time to feature a Latino character in the lead.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Bad Bunny and his publicist Sujeylee Solá said plans to star in El Muerto look grim. Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, fell silent when asked about the film’s removal from Sony’s schedule. After a prolonged silence, Solá said, “Next question.” Martínez added, “I don’t know what to say,” saying the issue is “delicate.” Solá quickly pinned the conversation by saying, “Obviously, it’s out,” referring to Martínez’s involvement with the spinoff.

Martínez is clearly...

El Muerto: Bad Bunny’s Marvel film pulled from Sony’s release schedule
Image
Sony is placing Bad Bunny’s Marvel film, El Muerto, in a headlock. The studio is pulling the Spider-Man Universe movie from its release schedule, painting a grim picture of what is supposed to be the first live-action Marvel film led by a Latino character. According to Deadline, El Muerto is still in development, but Bad Bunny’s tour schedule and the ongoing WGA strike make scheduling a nightmare. El Muerto was supposed to enter the cinematic ring in theaters on January 12, 2024.

Marvel hired Jonas Cuarón to direct El Muerto, with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer writing the script. Jonás Cuarón is the son of filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, whose 2018 film Roma won Best Directing, Best International Feature, and Best Cinematography prizes at the Academy Awards.

El Muerto, aka Juan-Carlos Sánchez, was a super-powered wrestler who initially fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match. He nearly unmasked Spider-Man before being accidentally stung by the...
