Alien: Earth — “Neverland” — Season 1 Episode 1 Spoiler Review and Recap
Image
After a week of great press and rising excitement, Alien: Earth makes its premiere on FX and FX on Hulu. Noah Hawley On Making His Acting Debut Alongside Son In ‘Alien: Earth’: “Don’t Look Out For A Lot Of Me”
Image
Noah Hawley had no plans to appear in his new FX series Alien: Earth; however, things changed quickly when an opportunity revealed itself.

Hawley will make his acting debut in the premiere episodes of the sci-fi series he created, wrote, showran and executive produced. By his side, and also in his first acting role, is Hawley’s son Lev, 12. The elder Hawley will play Wendy’s (Sydney Chandler) father in a flashback, and Lev as a young Cj Hermit (Alex Lawther), Wendy’s brother.

“No. I mean, I’ve never done it before. It was not my goal,” Hawley told Deadline at an event in May when asked whether he had always planned to appear in the series.

He continued, “I have this maxim where I always talk about trying to combine maximum creativity with maximum efficiency. My son asked if...

‘Alien: Earth’ is a ‘dazzlingly haunting epic,’ though some viewers may find it — natch — ‘alienating’: See critics’ reviews
Image
Reviews for Alien: Earth are in, and some critics are facehugging with excitement.

The FX drama series has an 89 percent at Rotten Tomatoes and an 86 score on Metacritic. It takes place in Prodigy City in 2120 — that's two years before the events of the influential first Alien film. Created by Emmy winner Noah Hawley (Fargo), Alien: Earth focuses on the Weyland-Yutani Corporation and the race to create new android life.

"Noah Hawley’s dazzlingly haunting epic is all about what exactly defines us as human," proclaims Brandon Yu (The Wrap).

Martin Robinson (London Evening Standard) agrees, raving, "Alien: Earth is the big win, managing to finally deliver on the promise the franchise has always had."

And Alan Sepinwall (Rolling Stone) notes, "As he did with Fargo, turning a classic and beloved movie into a long-running, award-winning anthology series, Hawley has taken a concept that has no business working for television and shaped it into something thrilling,...

Alien: Earth's Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed As First Reviews For Noah Hawley's TV Series Land
Image
With Noah Hawley in charge, fans have long expected Alien: Earth to offer a vastly different take on the long-running sci-fi franchise. Still, if the first wave of reviews is anything to go by, the Fargo and Legion showrunner has indeed put a bold new spin on the iconic property.

Boasting a story focusing on synthetics over the expected slaughter of human fodder courtesy of the Xenomorphs, Alien: Earth might not be what everyone wants from Alien. However, critics certainly appear impressed by the show.

The focus looks to be more on Alien: Earth's characters than its aliens, though the majority seem to agree that it still makes for compelling viewing. Some were less impressed (the word "boring" is thrown around), but most appear to approve of how Hawley is approaching the property.

Between this and Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus, it seems the Alien franchise is well and truly back,...

Alien: Earth showrunner teases 'moral horror' in the upcoming FX show
Image
In space, no one can hear you scream. But in the comfort of your own living room, watching the brand new Alien: Earth series from FX? Everyone can hear you screaming your lungs out, and that is certainly the goal for showrunner Noah Hawley and his team.

The series is set to bring the iconic science-fiction franchise that began with Ridley Scott’s iconic original Alien back in 1979 to the small screen for the very first time. Beyond the innovation at the heart of the distribution of the series, there’s also boundaries being pushed within the form and content of the show itself. For the first time, a story in the Alien universe will be unfolding predominantly on Earth rather than in space, and also for the first time, the main character will be a synthetic human.

As a direct result of all of this, Hawley felt an obligation to explore interpersonal relationships,...

The Xeno only appears right at the end of the teaser (and at a distance), but it appears to have retained the classic look of the iconic creature for the most part.

During a new interview with Collider, Hawley explained why he was hesitant to deviate too much from the original design, and "didn't want to mess with the silhouette of the creature at all.”

“I always felt like it was the least effective when it looked like a guy in a suit. You know what I mean? So there are elements, like in the classic, there's just this big ribcage,...

What’s Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in August
Image
As the TV world kicks into high gear with Emmys season, streaming platforms are still hard at work to bring the latest in film and television right into your homes. August’s offerings on Hulu and Disney+ include a handful of new movies, family-friendly programming, a lot of “Ice Age” and “John Wick,” and the return of Chris Hemsworth’s quest for immortality. Disney+ has livestreams planned for outdoor adventures and World Princess Week, as well as the animated anthology “Eyes of Wakanda,” set in the “Black Panther” universe; while Hulu will premiere a new season of “King of the Hill” and a two-episode limited series about the wrongfully convicted Amanda Knox.

Top Pick: “FX’s Alien: Earth”

In Noah Hawley’s latest installment to the “Alien” universe, it’s the year 2120 and our planet is ruled by corporations (yikes!). Five giants run the world: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and...

Fantastic New Trailer for Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth Hits – “We’re Seeing More Xenomorph than any of These Movies.”
Image
It’s a great time to be an Alien fan. A brand new trailer was released on Thursday for the highly anticipated FX’s Alien: Earth.

This is absolutely brilliant, especially the final shot – what a great trailer. Can’t wait for August 12!

In an interview with Collider, creator Noah Hawley and executive producer and director Dana Gonzales had a ton of new info about the series:

“I think we designed something that is very photographable and scary and detailed. I don’t know if some of the older movies had some of the stunt techniques that we have now, the wirework, and the fact that we can kind of fly the Xeno around and stuff like that. So it’s not so much just coming out and scaring you and having that kind of jump scare. It’s literally flying through the air. It’s chasing. There’s a...

How Alien: Earth Was Inspired by an Unexpected Fairy Tale
Image
Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley has revealed one of their inspirations for the upcoming FX prequel series. In the first Alien show, Don’t Worry Darling’s Sydney Chandler will be leading the cast as Wendy, who will be introduced as a hybrid robot.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hawley confirmed that elements of the iconic Peter Pan story inspired the main characters of Alien: Earth, revealing that the show will be calling them as Lost Boys. “I had this Peter Pan idea, and I thought, Well, where in the first two movies is any of this?” He explained. “In James Cameron’s movie, you have Newt, who’s an actual child, and then you have Bill Paxton’s character, who’s arguably the most childish character in the history of movies: ‘Game over, man!’ You have this confluence of this adult acting like a child, and this child...

Scott Free Eyes Further Series Adaptations of Ridley Scott and Tony Scott Movies Following ‘Alien: Earth’ and ‘Blade Runner 2099’
Image
Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions is looking to move forward with further series adaptations of Ridley Scott and Tony Scott movies if all goes to plan, following in the footsteps of FX’s “Alien: Earth,” which comes out Aug. 12, and Prime Video’s “Blade Runner 2099,” which will be ready next year.

Speaking to Variety at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, David W. Zucker, chief creative officer at Scott Free, notes that “Alien: Earth” and “Blade Runner 2099” are the first series adaptations of the Scott brothers’ films that the company has undertaken in the 24 years that Zucker has been at the company. It isn’t the first time Scott Free has adapted movies, per se, into series, Zucker points out, as the company did “Andromeda Strain” for A&e, and “Coma” for Universal.

For Zucker, the series adaptations have to be a “different beast” to the movies. It helps in...

‘Alien: Earth’ Trailer Unleashes Horrifying Creatures From The Darkest Corners Of The Universe
Image
“We have a downed spacecraft,” begins the first trailer for Noah Hawley’s FX series Alien: Earth.

“This ship collected five different life forms from the darkest corners of the universe. Monsters … Invasive species. Predatory,” a character says. And they are clearly going to make life hell for anyone in their path.

Per the official logline: In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. In this Corporate Era, cyborgs (humans with both biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness). The first hybrid prototype named “Wendy” (Sydney Chandler) marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship collides into Prodigy City, “Wendy” and the other hybrids...

First 'Alien: Earth' Official Trailer Released by FX
Image
The Alienfranchise is headed to television later this year, and it looks as terrifying as longtime fans of the franchise hoped it would be. The first official trailer for Alien: Earth reveals Noah Hawley's unique take on the horror franchise, which moves the action away from space. Unfortunately, on Earth, everyone can hear your scream.

Alien: Earth follows a group of soldiers tasked with handling extraterrestrial life forms after a spaceship containing a handful of mysterious eggs crash-landed on the planet. As the footage teases, five different aliens have made their way to Earth, and while a Xenomorph makes a bone-chilling appearance, it seems the series will introduce new species to the franchise. Set before the original 1979 Alien film, Earth will reveal that aliens touched grass long before Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the rest of the Nostromo made contact with the deadly creature. You can check out the trailer below.

FX’s ‘Alien: Earth’ Official Trailer Reveals a Predatory Twist
Image
The first trailer is here for FX’s Alien: Earth from Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley.

The trailer (below) sets up the show’s premise — a crashed spacecraft brings the dreaded Alien xenomorph to Earth.

But it also contains a rather intriguing surprise, as one character intones: “This ship collected five different life forms from the darkest corners of the universe. Monsters…. Invasive species. Predatory.”

The revelation opens up the prospect of the show having both the familiar sort of creatures from the Alien universe and also something new. There is also some clicking overheard during one portion of the trailer that sounds a bit like the creature from the Predator franchise, which has crossed paths with the Alien franchise previously. In any case, the prospect of a variety pack of monsters will certainly raise the intrigue level for fans.

The official description: “In the year 2120, the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy,...
