It's Official: DC Is Reviving One of Its Best Teams As Secret Six Gears Up For a Tense Comeback
Image
Amanda Waller is on the loose and if DC's younger Superman wants any chance of finding her, he and his friends are going to have to work together with a fan-favorite team. DC's younger generation of heroes went through hell in Absolute Power, and with an unexpected jailbreak, things are about to get a lot worse.

As DC Comics looks ahead to the new year, the publisher revealed that Nicole Maines (Suicide Squad: Dream Team) and Stephen Segovia (Moon Knight) are teaming up for DC's new limited series, Secret Six. The new series follows Jon, his partner, Jay Nakamura, and Dreamer, who discover that Amanda Waller has somehow escaped from her cell.

With Waller in the wind and some of the most important secrets locked away in her mind, the trio of young heroes has no choice but to team up with three villains from Waller's past: Secret Six members Deadshot,...

DC Pays Off 37 Years of Suicide Squad Lore with This Delicious Twist
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Absolute Power #4!For nearly four decades, Amanda Waller has run the Suicide Squad with an iron fist, ruthlessly executing countless ne'er-do-wells under her command with her signature brain bombs. The biggest winners and losers from DC's Absolute Power
Image
DC Comics’ Absolute Power event could be the crossover of the year. Considering what Marvel Comics did during Fall of X, that really says a lot. But it's true; readers saw amazing fights, the evolution of characters, and the fall of “The Wall” (Amanda Waller).

Now that the crossover is over, let’s take this opportunity to reflect on it, specifically looking at the winners and losers of this incredible comic book event.

Amanda Waller may have lost, but she’s a winner. It’s been a while since any human person has tested the superhero community like she did. The only other people who have are The Batman Who Laughs and Lex Luthor. Sure, she’s in Belle Reve and can’t remember the secrets she learned, but that’s temporary.

When she escapes,...

I Can't Believe DC's Ultra-Controversial 2004 Event Is Making Such a Sneaky Comeback
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Absolute Power #4!

I cannot believe Identity Crisis, DCs controversial 2004 blockbuster, is making a sneaky comeback into the modern DC Universe. 20 years ago, comic fans were held spellbound by Identity Crisis as they tried to guess the killers identity. Identity Crisis was not without controversy on many levels, primarily among them the ethics of mind-wiping villains. Now, in Absolute Power #4, the shadow of Identity Crisis rears its head once again.

Absolute Power #4 is written by Mark Waid and drawn by Dan Mora. Amanda Waller, whose campaign to destroy Earths heroes has been thwarted, awakens to find herself in a cell in Belle Reve. Dreamer, who had once been in Wallers pocket, confronts Waller. Waller scoffs at her situation, telling Dreamer she can bribe her way out with all the intelligence she has gathered about heroes. Dreamer then challenges Waller to recall where the Batcave isand she cannot.

“They Shouldn’t Have Let You Cook Man”: Todd Phillips Confirms James Gunn Was Not Involved With ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Production
Image
Joker: Folie à Deux premiered yesterday to a largely negative response from both critics and fans. The film received a “D” CinemaScore, marking the lowest rating for any superhero movie. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently sits at a dismal 33% approval rating from both critics and audiences.

Surprisingly, every time I check the score, it seems to be dropping further, officially earning the title of “certified rotten.” The box office outlook is bleak, as the film only grossed $7 million in pre-release screenings, which is lower than the first installment, especially concerning given that it had three times the budget of the original, now reported at $200 million.

The negative reception largely stems from the film being a musical with a confusing storyline. Despite both Lady Gaga and Todd Phillips insisting that it is not a musical, it undeniably is, and unfortunately, it fails to deliver.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran currently...

Clint Eastwood and Melora Hardin in Les pleins pouvoirs (1997)
Absolute Power changed the DC Universe (seriously)
Clint Eastwood and Melora Hardin in Les pleins pouvoirs (1997)
During the DC Comics crossover Absolute Power, Amanda Waller made the world think heroes were committing crimes worldwide. Then, her Task Force VII stole powers from heroes and villains across Earth Prime and kept them for themselves. To make things worse, Waller was helped by Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) and Batman’s android, Failsafe. Of course, the heroes eventually fought back. With Nightwing leading, the heroes attacked Waller and took their planet back.

Now that the series is over, here's everything you need to know about the finale of Absolute Power and how it affects DC Comics.

It was obvious that Green Arrow wasn’t a traitor, but there were times when it looked like he believed in Waller’s mission. There was a reason for that. J'onn J'onzz put an implant in Oliver’s...

Superhero Fatigue at Comic-Con? Fans and Insiders Say It’s About Quality Not Quantity
Image
“Superhero fatigue” is a nebulous concept that for at least a decade now has cropped up whenever a blockbuster comic book movie underperforms — or flops. But in the last two years, as disappointment has become a new normal for DC and even mighty Marvel, so too have claims that superhero fatigue has finally set in.

With two exceptions, every superhero film released since the start of 2023 has disappointed. None have topped $400 million domestic box office or $1 billion globally, with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” coming closest and delivering solid box office totals. Three films failed to reach $100 million domestically, with “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” barely tipping over $50 million.

Then came Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Critics weren’t kind to the threequel, but those reviews didn’t matter to audiences. It debuted this week to a record-shattering $438 million global box office, the highest...

Mark Waid on How Absolute Power Changes Everything for the DC Universe
Image
Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.

That statement almost always holds true in the real world but not often in the world of mainstream superheroes, especially those published by DC Comics. No matter how bleak things get, the denizens of the DC Universe can always look up in the sky to find Superman, their shining beacon of hope.

That is, until Absolute Power, the new DC crossover event from the all-star comics team of writer Mark Waid and artist Dan Mora, shoots Superman through the heart. To make matters worse, the Justice League has disbanded, leaving Earth without its greatest heroes.

“I really expected Absolute Power to be a Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman story,” Waid admits to Den of Geek. “And instead, it became very much a book about a bunch of different heroes, [including] Dreamer, Jon Kent, and Nightwing.”

Waid is an award-winning industry veteran who initially worked at DC Comics as...
