Rian Johnson teases Poker Face season 3 could come back much sooner
Image
When Poker Face season 2 premiered on Peacock in May 2025, there had been a two-and-a-half year wait since the mystery of the week series' debut season. The delay can be traced back to the postponements that occurred in the wake of the dual Hollywood labor strikes, but even without setbacks from strikes, two-year waits have become far too normal in the streaming world.

However, should Peacock opt to renew the fan-favorite Natasha Lyonne mystery-comedy for a third season, creator Rian Johnson has seemingly indicated that there won't be as long as a wait in between seasons. Obviously, there are a lot of factors at play that need to come together for Poker Face season 3 to land on our screeners by sometime next year, including a renewal.

Poker Face season 3 isn't confirmed yet, but could still happen

As of July 15, less than a week after the season 2 finale aired on Peacock, the...

‘Squid Game,’ Diego Luna & Elisabeth Moss Snubbed In Emmy Nominations; Beyoncé & Martin Scorsese Among Big Surprises
Image
The Emmys are beloved among top-tier award shows for announcing their nominations at a reasonable hour, for the most part. Now that all of the nominations are out, this morning there are some initially eupeptic and caffeinated would-be contenders who just didn’t get any love from voters at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

They might be taking a celebration swig or two at Apple TV+’s Severance, HBO Max’s newbie The Pitt, Netflix’s Adolescence and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Mendendez Story, plus Season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus right now. Those near-sure bets heard their names repeatedly among the nominations for the sprawling 124 categories for the 77th Primetime Emmys unveiled Tuesday by Brenda Song and Harvey Guillén – as did Dying for Sex‘s Michelle Williams, The Residence’s Uzo Aduda, and The Studio’s Seth Rogen.

On the other hand, even with the “bit...

Rian Johnson Breaks Down Poker Face's Season 2 Fake-Out Finale: 'I Was Giggling in the Editing Room'
Image
The following contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Poker Face, now streaming on Peacock.

Poker Facecreator Rian Johnson explains the thought process behind Season 2's fake-out cliffhanger ending.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson recalled his initial reaction to the series' Season 2 finale and its fake-out "To Be Continued" card. "I was just giggling in the edit room getting the timing of that exactly right with Natasha," Johnson said. "Peacock was a little nervous. They were like, 'Do you have to put To Be Continued?' I was like, 'I think it will be fine.' It's another great harkening back to the commercial break cuts that I grew up with [on TV shows] as a kid. A car would go off the ramp at the Universal backlot, the show would freeze frame and it would be like, 'How are they going to get out of this one!"

Rian Johnson on That ‘Poker Face’ Cliffhanger, ‘Star Wars’ Rumors, and the Next ‘Knives Out’
Image
This post contains spoilers for the Season Two finale of Poker Face, now streaming on Peacock.

The second season of Poker Face nearly ends on a cliffhanger. Towards the end of the finale — appropriately titled “The End of the Road” — the show’s human lie detector heroine, Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), is stuck in her beloved 1969 Plymouth Barracuda with master assassin the Iguana (Patti Harrison), heading for a gorge with the FBI in pursuit. The Barracuda goes over the edge, and there’s a Thelma & Louise-style freeze-frame implying...

Rian Johnson Explains Why Poker Face Season 2's Ending Worried Peacock: "I Was Just Giggling In The Edit Room"
Image
Poker Face creator Rian Johnson reveals that Peacock was concerned about one key moment in the season 2 finale. The series debuted in 2023 and follows Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cale, a woman with the ability to tell whenever anyone is lying. Poker Face season 2 took Charlie in a different direction and gave her a nemesis with The Iguana (Patti Harrison), who finds a way to beat Charlie's lie detection.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson discusses a moment in the season 2 finale that looked to be a cliffhanger. As The Iguana drives towards the edge of cliff, she tests if Charlie can tell if she's lying. Charlie is able to detect the lie, but the brakes on their car fail, and they careen off a cliff in a Thelma & Louise-style ending. The words "To Be Continued" appear on-screen, only for it to be resolved after a commercial break.

‘Poker Face’ Boss Rian Johnson Delighted in That Finale Cliffhanger Tease: “Peacock Was a Little Nervous”
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of Poker Face, “The End of the Road.”]

Hopefully, you kept watching after Poker Face nearly ended its second season with a big “To Be Continued.” Creator Rian Johnson was confident viewers would stick with the episode — but he says Peacock was a little nervous.

“I was just giggling in the edit room getting the timing of that exactly right with Natasha,” Johnson, who created, writes and directs on the Natasha Lyonne-starring series, tells The Hollywood Reporter of the finale’s cliffhanger gag. “Peacock was a little nervous. They were like, ‘Do you have to put To Be Continued?’ I was like, ‘I think it will be fine.’ It’s another great harkening back to the commercial break cuts that I grew up with [on TV shows] as a kid. ‘Poker Face’ Boss Unpacks Charlie’s Heartbreaking Season 2 Finale, Shares Hopes for Potential Season 3
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Poker Face” Season 2, Episode 12.

Just as quickly as Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie Cale settled into the bustling metropolis of New York City in “Poker Face,” the Season 2 finale ripped away any shred of normalcy as Charlie headed back on the road again, fearing for her life even more than the first time.

After settling into her Brooklyn crash pad (thanks to Steve Buscemi’s Good Buddy) and developing a friendship with a local named Alex (Patti Harrison), things were looking pretty good for Charlie — that is, until she found out she’s at the center of a plot from notorious assassin the Iguana to find and kill Beatrix Hasp (Rhea Perlman). Charlie and Alex thought they had evaded the Iguana, until Charlie realizes that her friend was actually Iguana all along, who had befriended Charlie so she could lead her to Hasp and kill her.

Poker Face season 2 finale recap and ending explained
Image
The Poker Face season 2 finale is titled "The End of the Road". However, it’s hard to imagine the end of the road for Poker Face will be anytime soon.

With Poker Face's 96 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s impossible to think the series won’t be picked up for a season 3. Not only that, but it’s in Peacock’s Top 10 list of TV Shows. Season 2 has had an intense group of A-list stars, so you can only imagine what showrunner Tony Tost has up his sleeves next for the tale of Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne).

This article contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of “Poker Face.”

Diving into the season finale, Charlie and Alex can be seen speeding off in her Baracuda as they figure out their next plan of action. After Charlie turns her cell on, her good friend, Luca (Simon Helberg), calls and reveals she was right again.

‘Poker Face’s Patti Harrison On Playing Her “Dream Role” In Season 2, That “Devastating” Finale & What’s Next For Alex & Charlie
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Poker Face, Season 2 finale episode ‘The End of the Road’

With Natasha Lyonne‘s Charlie Cale on the run once again in the Season 2 finale of Poker Face, here’s hoping Patti Harrison‘s Alex isn’t far behind.

Ahead of Thursday’s episode ‘The End of the Road’, the comedian spoke to Deadline about taking on the “dream role” of the mysterious Alex, at first introduced as a quirky friend and potential Watson for the troubled protagonist Charlie’s Sherlock, but revealed in the finale to be the Moriarty of the story.

“I think that was an important part too, is just not that my character be so goofy and silly, ’cause I think they trusted me a lot to imbue it with humor, but that wasn’t my directive going in,” explained Harrison. “I wanted to kind of figure out what...

‘Poker Face’ Boss on That Finale Shocker, Subverting Charlie’s Lie-Detection and Setting Up a Potential Season 3
Image
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “The End of the Road,” Season 2, Episode 12 of “Poker Face,” now streaming on Peacock.

Every episode leading up to the Season 2 finale of “Poker Face” — Rian Johnson’s murder-of-the-week love letter to “Columbo” — has relied on Charlie Cale’s (Natasha Lyonne) unrivaled ability to sniff out lies to solve any mystery.

But in a surprising turn of events in the latest episode, “The End of the Road,” Charlie finds herself outsmarted at her own game by close friend Alex (Patti Harrison), who has been the Iguana killer all along. Alex managed to bypass Charlie’s detection by training herself to swallow all her natural impulses when lying, subverting the template of the show and what fans have come to expect.

Season 2 showrunner Tony Tost explains that the twist was pitched by co-executive producer Laura Deeley in the writers’ room. “She came in with...

Seth Rogen’s Raucous Adult Animated Comedy Serves Up a Piping Hot Season 2 Trailer
Image
Nearly a decade ago, when the adult-animated comedy flick Sausage Party jumped off the shelves and into cinemas, it’s unclear whether the minds behind it had any idea of just how popular it would become. While Seth Rogen was gunning for a feature-length sequel for years, he eventually got the next best thing — an episodic series. Now, heading into its sophomore installment, today marks the debut of the long-awaited trailer for Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2. With favorites like Rogen, Michael Cera, Edward Norton, and Will Forte returning to voice their characters Frank, Barry, Sammy Bagel Jr., and Jack, respectively, the next fresh batch of piping-hot episodes will also feature plenty of new celebrity voices as the boys strike out on their latest adventure.

Things aren’t looking so great for Frank at the beginning of today’s trailer. He’s still (understandably) grieving the tragic loss of his beloved...

Poker Face Showrunner Shares The Wacky Episode Idea Too 'Cartoony' For The Show [Exclusive Interview]
Image
This article contains spoilers for season 2 of "Poker Face."

After a somewhat hit-or-miss first season, "Poker Face" made a surprising choice in season 2.

Instead of doubling down on the serialized elements it established in season 1, the series largely wrapped up that storyline quickly and promptly kicked it to the curb, giving Natasha Lyonne's Charlie Cale character the freedom to wander across the country without having to constantly look over her shoulder. The result? The show feels like it came into its own, unburdened by the narrative restrictions of Charlie caught in a web of rival gang families and finally able to focus on the purest version of the how-catch-em formula as she bounces from city to city. Unfortunately, I thought everything kinda falls off a cliff in the last two episodes and seems to set up a third season that feels like it might undo all of that and...

While discussing her character’s arc in the back half of the Peacock series’ sophomore season with Deadline, Harrison was surprised to learn ‘The Big Pump’ episode director Clea DuVall recommended her casting as the quirky new friend of Natasha Lyonne‘s Charlie Cale, years after she was sure she’d “done such a bad job” with her audition for the 2023 pilot.

“Wait, I didn’t know this. What did you hear?” Harrison asked me, following my interview with Lyonne and series creator Rian Johnson at the beginning of the season.

The Prime Video series, co-created by Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir, serves as a sequel to their 2016 film of the same name, with Frank and the rest of the anthropomorphic foods trying to build a new society after defeating humans. Though having garnered mixed reviews, Sausage Party: Foodtopia enjoyed enough viewership success to net an early season 2 renewal.

With just shy of two months left to go until its return, ScreenRant is proud to exclusively present first-look images from Sausage Party: Foodtopia season 2. The stills, which can be seen in the gallery below, reveal the introduction of a new human survivor, Patti Harrison's Jill, as well as new food character Dijon (Marion Cotillard), described as "a bada-- warrior-mustard princess who pilots...

Mark Ruffalo, Kerry Washington, Julia Louis-Dreyfus & More Celebrities Attend “No Kings” Protests: “Our Democracy’s In Real Trouble”
Image
Celebrities like Mark Ruffalo, Jimmy Kimmel, Kerry Washington and more are stepping out in support of the “No Kings” protests happening nationwide against president Donald Trump’s increasingly authoritarian behavior.

They join thousands of marchers across cities from New York City to Austin to Los Angeles, the latter of which has become an epicenter for the showdown currently occurring between the constituency and federal government policy, with Trump deploying 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines sans state leaders’ approval in reaction to communities’ opposition to the harsh escalation in Ice raids.

In an interview with MSNBC, Ruffalo — who attended the rally in New York City, alongside Susan Sarandon — said he was protesting “because we see our democracy’s in real trouble. We see a president who has made himself a king and dictator, and we don’t see an opposition that’s powerful enough to stand up against the trampling of...

Charlie is back on the case in Poker Face season 2 so don't miss a beat (release schedule)
Image
It’s been two long years, but Poker Face season 2 is finally here! The first three episodes are already available to stream on Peacock, and the rest of the season will arrive weekly.

Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) returns as a woman who can always tell when someone is lying. She just has this special power, and she has been using it for good, even though she doesn’t really want to. While she’s on the run for her life, she’s found a way to help people in small towns as they figure out who really killed individuals.

This is more than the traditional “whodunit” series. Much like Columbo and Elsbeth, we already know who the victim and murderer are. Instead, Charlie is helping justice be served, as she makes it clear that people are lying.

Poker Face Season 2 TV Review: Natasha Lyonne and Rian Johnson reunite for more mystery-of-the-week shenanigans
Image
Plot: Poker Face is a mystery-of-the-week series following Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie, who has an extraordinary ability to determine when someone is lying. She hits the road with her Plymouth Barracuda and with every stop encounters a new cast of characters and strange crimes she can’t help but solve.

Review: While Rian Johnson revived the whodunit on the big screen with Knives Out and the Netflix sequel Glass Onion, his charmingly retro small-screen series Poker Face has truly proven its worth in the tried-and-true genre. Echoing classic shows like Columbo and The Rockford Files, Poker Face‘s first season centered on Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), who solved mysteries while on the run from gangsters looking to kill her. The overarching narrative of the first season was engaging, but the standalone mysteries boasting famous guest stars turned Poker Face into must-watch programming. After a two-year wait, Poker Face is back with another ten mysteries,...

“You gotta have people that are going to play these parts”: The Luckiest Man in America Star Paul Walter Hauser Discusses Playing Controversial Game Show Winner Michael Larson
Image
After his big break in a scene-stealing supporting role in I, Tonya, Paul Walter Hauser has become one of Hollywood’s most unlikely leading men. Working with such acclaimed filmmakers as Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman and Da 5 Bloods) and Clint Eastwood (Richard Jewell), and starring in franchises like Cobra Kai and the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Hauser is one of the most reliably great actors working today.

Hauser’s latest role is as the lead in The Luckiest Man in America, a thriller in which he plays an unemployed ice cream truck driver who beats the odds to rack up the record for highest winnings on the game show Press Your Luck. To the role, he brings not only his signature charm but also the depth and humility that makes his work so special.

Robert Redford
Interview: Paul Walter Hauser discusses the infamous true story behind The Luckiest Man in America
Robert Redford
There have been countless scandals involving game shows over the years. The most famous adaptation of such an event was Robert Redford’s acclaimed Quiz Show, starring Ralph Fiennes and John Turturro. Still, there have been more recent instances, including a bizarre one in 1984 involving a man who figured out how to beat one of the most popular game shows on American television, Press Your Luck. The Luckiest Man in America dramatizes that event with a fantastic cast led by Paul Walter Hauser.

The film tells the story of ice cream truck driver Michael Larson (Paul Walter Hauser), an unemployed ice cream truck driver from Ohio who cons his way onto Press Your Luck. As he begins to win record-breaking prizes, those behind the scenes figure out he may be doing more than just playing the game. As the truth becomes apparent, Michael’s true motivations become evident, revealing a...

The Luckiest Man in America Review: Paul Walter Hauser leads the strange but true story of the Press Your Luck cheating scandal
Image
Plot: Based on a true story, the film is set in May 1984, when an unemployed ice cream truck driver from Ohio steps onto the game show Press Your Luck, harboring a big secret: the key to endless amounts of money. His winning streak is threatened when the bewildered executives in the control room start to uncover his real motivations.

Review: As someone who has been trying to get on Jeopardy! for a while, I have always been fascinated with the contestants’ backstories who have made their way onto shows watched by millions. While few controversies have compared to the one chronicled in Robert Redford’s Quiz Show, the circumstances surrounding Michael Larson’s then-record-breaking appearance on Press Your Luck is a bizarre chapter in pop culture history. The Luckiest Man in America dramatizes the events of Larson’s run on the popular game show with the great Paul Walter Hauser in another fantastic performance.
