After a 14 year hiatus, the Final Destination franchise returned this year with Final Destination: Bloodlines – and movie-goers were clearly missing these movies, as Bloodlines has quickly become the highest-grossing entry in the franchise. The previous record holder, 2009’s The Final Destination, reached $187 million, but the new sequel has left that record in the dust, pulling in over $230 million so far. That’s in just two and a half weeks of release! Now, according to When to Stream, word is going around that Final Destination: Bloodlines might be getting a digital release in just two more weeks, on June 17th. We’ll have to wait and see if that turns out to be true. As When to Stream noted, “Warner Bros has neither announced nor confirmed the release date. As always, release dates are subject to change.”

Having established itself as the top-grossing installment of the long-running Final Destination franchise, Final Destination Bloodlinespassed a major global box office milestone this weekend. The horror movie has been playing in theaters worldwide for nearly a month now, having debuted in the wake of fellow Warner Bros. horror release Sinners. Like that film, Bloodlines earned solid reviews and saved the studio from going down what seemed like a dismal road earlier this year, following the underperformance of Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 and Barry Levinson's The Alto Knights.
With $111 million domestically and another $117 from overseas markets, Bloodlineshas grossed nearly $230 million worldwide so far. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $50 million, which makes it a solid hit for W.B. The franchise's previous number one film was the fourth installment, The Final Destination, which earned nearly $190 million worldwide in 2009. Pop icon Charli Xcx is revisiting the Final Destination franchise ahead of seeing the latest installment, Final Destination Bloodlines, which landed in theaters two weeks ago. The musician only had the best words for the films, as seen on TikTok, and she didn’t hesitate to pitch her own idea for a potential sequel starring “It Girls.” Final Destination began with the 2000 pic and is currently in its sixth chapter, which is not the last for the franchise, as previously hinted by producer Craig Perry. So fingers crossed, Charli’s version could actually come to life.
In the video, the Brat creator initially pointed out why she loves the Final Destination movies, saying they “really just are about hot people getting killed” and with “no moral backbone to the story.” She then detailed her idea, naming some stars she would want featured in her version, including a scream icon:

Among the biggest horror movies of recent times, and, indeed, one of the biggest horror films ever made, is last year's Alien: Romulus. It successfully re-energized a franchise that began in 1979, with Ridley Scott's landmark first Alien film. The movie earned nearly $190 million at the worldwide box office, a number that has now been eclipsed by the recent hit Final Destination Bloodlines. Over the course of a couple of weeks, Bloodlines has emerged as the highest-grossing installment of the long-running horror franchise, and has established itself among the biggest scary movies of the last few years.
Bloodlines is passing the $100 million mark domestically as we speak, and has earned $190 million at the global box office so far. This has put it ahead of the $188 million that Alien is currently sitting on, including all the revenue it has generated through re-releases. The movie celebrated its 45th anniversary in theaters last year.

Final Destination: Bloodlines has proven to be a massive success for Warner Bros., and has now become the highest-grossing movie in the franchise with a $187+ million global box office haul.
Highly positive reviews are sure to have helped, as are some incredibly inventive, shocking, and downright gruesome kills.
Though the opening Sky View premonition sequence is arguably the highlight of the movie, the "lawnmower death" that befalls poor Uncle Howard has to be a close second. The carnage is brilliantly orchestrated, with several fake-outs building towards Howard falling backwards into the oncoming blades of the lawnmower.
The studio has now shared a behind-the-scenes look at Howard's brutal demise, which relied heavily on practical VFX. We also have some BTS photos of the bloodied cast members.

The Direct's Russ Milheim sat down with the cast and creatives behind Final Destination: Bloodlines to discuss the absolutely crazy deaths that the sixth entry in the iconic horror franchise brings to the table. While Bloodlines flirts with the idea of multiple characters (all within the same family) cheating death itself, as one would expect, it never works out, and everyone dies in spectacular, gory fashion by the time the credits roll.
The complete list of the talented folk The Direct spoke with includes Brec Bassinger (Iris Campbell), Kaitlyn Santa Juana (Stefani Reyes), Teo Briones (Charlie Reyes), Rya Kihlstedt (Darlene Reyes), Richard Harmon (Erik Campbell), Owen Patrick Joyner (Bobby Campbell), Anna Lore (Julia Campbell), Adam Stein (co-director), Zach Lipovsky (co-director), and Craig Perry (franchise producer). Long-time Final Destination producer Craig Perry has shared his least favorite movie from the horror franchise. He was also a producer on the coming-of-age comedy American Pie.
The revelation was made in an excerpt from Entertainment Weekly journalist Clark Collis' upcoming book titled, Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie. He states that Perry admitted that 2009's The Final Destination was the worst one in the franchise. "I don't think the fourth one is good at all, actually it sucks," Perry said.

Most fans and critics actually seemed to agree with Perry's sentiments about the fourth movie, since it is currently the lowest-rated movie of the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 28%.

The critical and commercial success of Final Destination Bloodlines, the sixth installment in the long-running horror franchise, cannot be understated. In just four days of release, Bloodlines has become the second-biggest installment of the series domestically. It made $51 million in its opening weekend, and its gross domestic haul now stands at over $55 million. The film will comfortably pass the $100 million mark domestically, which would make it the first Final Destination movie to do so. Its success is made all the more special because it arrived in theaters at a time when mainstream horror movies were struggling to find an audience. Bloodlines' impact can also be felt on home video, where four of the five previous Final Destination movies have witnessed a spike in viewership.

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Final Destination: Bloodlines.
Final Destination feels like an anomaly. Debuting in 2000, James Wong’s brutal shocker serves as a bridge between the teen slashers of the late ’90s and the gritty torture porn films that would dominate the genre in years to come. Spiraling into four inventive sequels, the franchise explores abject horror with increasingly gruesome variations on a well-loved and surprisingly simple formula. A young man or woman has a vision of imminent disaster and saves a handful of people meant to perish in the carnage, but once the dust of mass casualty settles, the survivors begin to die in unthinkable ways. It seems Death itself is targeting them, intent on cleaning up the loose ends of its master plan.

Death is back, and audiences are lining up to see its latest masterpiece of mayhem. Well, folks, it looks like moviegoers just can’t get enough of watching characters meet their demise in spectacularly gruesome ways.
Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s Final Destination Bloodlines has absolutely crushed box office expectations this weekend! Not only did the sixth installment in this long-running horror franchise blow past industry projections, but it also managed to establish itself as the highest-grossing opener in the series’ entire 25-year history.
And get this – it accomplished all this after a 14-year absence from theaters. If there was ever any doubt about whether audiences still had an appetite for Death’s elaborate designs, this opening weekend certainly put those questions to rest.

Final Destination: Bloodlines has earned the best reviews in the franchise’s history—along with a record-breaking box office debut. Despite this recent high point, the series has seen its share of ups and downs over the past three decades. When it comes to picking the worst installment, producer Craig Perry doesn’t hesitate to call out The Final Destination.
In an excerpt from Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie by Clark Collis (via Entertainment Weekly), Perry revealed that he originally believed The Final Destination would mark the end of the series. Talk about a dead reckoning. For 25 years now, the Final Destination franchise has been dealing out elaborate demises with maximum splatter – depicting some of the greatest disaster sequences in cinema history, before teeing up playful Rube Goldberg-style kills for the seemingly lucky survivors. And capital-‘d’ Death isn’t done yet – the series has returned with Final Destination Bloodlines, dishing up a fresh batch of murderous mayhem. So what better time to look over the gore-strewn entrails of one of the most entertaining horror series around, and see which comes in at the top of the pile-up?

Final Destination Bloodlines Beats Opening Weekend Box Office Expectations With Record-Setting Debut
Warner Bros. continues to dominate the box office. Its latest film, New Line/Warner Bros.' Final Destination Bloodlines, took the top box office spot with an estimated $51 million domestically, per Deadline. The film, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, exceeded expectations in the U.S. as it was previously predicted to earn between $35 million and $40 million in its three-day opening weekend.
Bloodlines is shattering records as it has had the biggest opening of any of the films in the Final Destination franchise and has the distinction of being the biggest opening for an R-rated horror movie this decade, per Discussing Film. Bloodlines has already earned $102 million globally, with an even split coming from overseas and U.S. box office tallies. The horror film surpassed Sinners'opening weekend total. The Ryan Coogler film, starring Michael B. Jordan, earned $48 million in its opening weekend.

Final Destination Bloodlines is a movie overflowing with fun references to the titles that came before it, but none are more powerful than all those nods to the log truck that traumatized an entire generation. We see the log truck in different iterations throughout the film, until death finally comes to collect on Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) and Charlie (Teo Briones) in the final seconds. The scene gives us the bloodiest log-based sequence since that highway pile-up back in 2003’s Final Destination 2, but that wasn’t the original ending for the doomed siblings.
Ahead of the film’s theatrical release, Collider’s Perri Nemiroff sat down to chat with co-helmers Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. When asked about any versions of the script in which the pair survived, Lipovsky admitted that he was unsure, adding, “We had a lot of different drafts.

Update May 11, 2025: Warner Bros.' Final Destination Bloodlines shattered box-office expectations during the May 16-18 weekend, debuting with a franchise-best $51 million. This opening nearly doubles the series' previous high of $27 million, set by The Final Destination in 2009. Ticket sales for the horror hit were bolstered by a solid B-plus CinemaScore and glowing reviews. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the film also pulled in an impressive $51 million internationally, propelling the $50 million production past $100 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
Meanwhile, the Weeknd's film debut, Hurry Up Tomorrow, bombed, earning just $3.3 million and landing in sixth place. Lionsgate's psychological thriller, which costars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, was trashed by critics, who labeled it "self-indulgent" and "a feature-length ego stroke."
In second place, Thunderbolts earned $16.5 million, marking a 50 percent drop from the previous week. The Marvel film has now brought its domestic total to $155 million, with a worldwide gross of $325 million.

Every installment of the Final Destination franchise has been about connection. Not just the connection between the folks who cheat death, but the connection that death makes when it comes to collect. But Final Destination Bloodlines takes the idea of connection one step further, as it centers around an entire family that shouldn’t exist. Aside from the familial tie between the Campbells, audiences were speculating about another bond that might link Bloodlines to the five films that came before it — the wall of newspaper clippings.
Taking up quite a bit of space, the craft looks like something straight out of the Pepe Silvia episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as it chronicles the eventual deaths of those who were meant to perish in the Skyview Restaurant collapse that never happened. In a third consecutive win, Warner Bros. is doing scary great business at the box office thanks to New Line’s critically acclaimed Final Destination Bloodlines.
The supernatural horror-thriller pic topped the weekend with a franchise-best domestic opening of $51.7 million, ahead of expectations. Overseas, it earned $54.1 million for a global start of $105.8 million, up from Sunday’s estimate of $101.2 million, thanks to a strong Sunday. Either number was more than enough to successfully revive a long-dormant franchise that was first introduced to audiences a quarter of a century ago. The last installment, Final Destination 5, was released in 2011 and opened to $18 million, not adjusted for inflation. (On Saturday, the pic was only expected to do $46 million to $47 million.)

Warner Bros.’ dismal start to the year is now a thing of the past, thanks to the hat-trick of hits that the studio has delivered since. Final Destination Bloodlines is the latest WB film to overperform at the box office, despite facing direct competition from fellow WB horror hit Sinners, which is continuing to deliver extraordinary results even after a month of release. For that matter, the studio’s A Minecraft Movie is still marching towards the coveted $1 billion mark at the global box office, despite having been released on digital platforms a few days ago.
Bloodlines topped the domestic box office charts with a franchise-best $51 million haul. This is higher than the $48 million that Sinners opened with last month, which is an achievement that warrants genuine celebration. The movie earned a further $50 million from over 70 international territories, for a global box office debut of $101 million. Produced on a reported...

The latest Final Destinationmovie, Final Destination Bloodlines, is giving another horror film, a run for its money at the box office. Per Deadline, Bloodlines, in its opening weekend,is on track to earn $45 million, just shy of the $48 million that Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror film, Sinners, made in its debut weekend.
Bloodlines, via Warner Bros., has already broken a record for the highest-grossing opening day for any film in the Final Destination franchise, earning $21 million on its first day in theaters. There’s a slight chance that Bloodlines could earn as much as $50 million this weekend, but that remains to be seen.
Warner Bros. Sinners, in its fifth weekend in theaters, is on its way to adding another $15 million this weekend after tallying $4.4 million on Friday. Sinners, thus far, has earned just shy of $300 million worldwide, with $225.3 million coming from domestic box office totals, per Box Office Mojo.

Although the Final Destination franchise is admittedly very popular, it has always struggled with the critics. In fact, the franchise seemed to have ended 14 years ago, just as a new wave of director-driven horror movies — these were categorized as "elevated horror" — began to leave an impression in the minds of audiences and critics. Art-house horror, for the first time ever, became mainstream. But Final Destination Bloodlines is flipping the narrative in its debut; not only is the movie expected to overperform at the box office, it has delivered the best reviews in the franchise's quarter-century history.
Bloodlines holds a "certified fresh" 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, in addition to a "verified hot" 90% audience score on the website. These impressive Rt scores were supplemented by a B+ CinemaScore grade, which is extraordinarily high for a horror movie of this kind. Whether it’s taking a flight, getting a tan or driving behind a log truck, Final Destination has had a chokehold on horror fans for 25 years.
Craig Perry, who’s been a producer on the franchise since it launched in 2000, recently told Deadline about the long journey to making Final Destination Bloodlines, now in theaters, explaining that he “can’t walk in a room without” fearing death after a quarter of a century making the horror films.
“Yeah, that happens to me every day. … I’m trained,” said Perry. “It’s terrible. Look, that’s one of the fun things about working on these movies, is to sort of start cataloging those things that, like you experienced there, that might wind up in a movie someday because everybody’s had that moment.”

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Final Destination Bloodlines!Final Destination Bloodlines' directors break down Tony Todd's final scene in the franchise and William John Bludworth's backstory. Despite being a fixture in the franchise, Jb's identity has remained a mystery until now. With an ensemble cast led by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, and Richard Harmon, the sixth installment, released on May 16, sees a family in a race against Death during which they track down the only person who might be able to save them.
In an interview with Screen Rant, directors Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky talked about the late actor's final scene in the movie, where Jb's relationship with Death is revealed. Stein shared that at the time of production, Todd, who died from stomach cancer last November, insisted that they keep him in the movie. Spoilers follow.
The "Final Destination" franchise has lain dormant for 14 years, waiting for the perfect moment to strike fear into a whole new generation. I admittedly had my reservations about "Bloodlines" simply because "Final Destination 5" is both the best entry and the thematic lynchpin of the entire series. Most horror franchises would kill to have an ending this tight, so the thought of resurrecting it for another go-around worried me initially. Rest assured, however, that "Bloodlines" is a more than worthy successor that takes the series in an exciting new direction, while still offering up a buffet of gruesomely gory deaths that's best experienced with a crowd. /Film's Bj Colangelo wrote in her review that the sixth entry is a franchise best and I'm very much on the same page.
"Bloodlines" kicks off its carnival of carnage with a tremendous opening premonition sequence set in the '60s atop a Skyview restaurant.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Final Destination Bloodlines.Exclusive: Final Destination Bloodlines directors address the Skyview survivor theory, which links Death's victims in the previous films to being the descendants of the Skyview survivors. Following Stefanie's (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) attempt to save her family from Death's sinister plans, the sixth installment, which arrived in theaters on May 16, reveals a massive map of Death's past victims, consisting of countless Skyview survivors and their descendants, who were saved by Stefanie's grandmother, Iris (Brec Bassinger/Gabrielle Rose).
In an interview with Screen Rant, directors Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky share their thoughts on the Skyview survivor theory. While Stein admits that they have "discussed and debated a lot" about the idea, they actually "didn't go quite that far" because one of the rules in the sixth installment established that the previous generation would be targeted first, which means including the theory would easily break canon.

You never forget the first time you see it: a truck that appears to be humongous, barely fitting within a single lane on a busy highway. Its payload, a large number of thick, hefty, freshly-cut logs, sits precariously on its flatbed, barely held in place by just three chains, which, when compared to the mighty logs, seem precariously flimsy. It's the sort of vehicle you wouldn't be too enthused about driving behind under the best of circumstances, for not only would it cut off your visibility, but it would compel you to conjure up images of your worst fears, should one of those logs fall off the truck. In the film "Final Destination 2," all of those fears come true, as a premonition of death by one of the characters is depicted, the logs begin careening off the truck, and the result...

It's hard to believe that it's been 14 years since the last Final Destination film was released in theaters (and the franchise feels more popular now than ever before—just try looking at a log truck on the road and not thinking about that killer opening in Final Destination 2), but the latest installment is well worth the wait. Paying homage to the franchise's past installments while carving its own gory trail in the creatively macabre image of Death's design, Final Destinations Bloodlines is the perfect balance of blood-soaked horror, gallows humor, and heart-wrenching moments, especially because this latest film follows an entire family who have cheated Death by their very existence, and who find themselves in the shadow of the Grim Reaper's scythe now that Death has finally caught up to them decades later...

Final Destination: Bloodlines resurrects everyone’s favorite non-corporeal grim reaper for another gleefully twisted adventure, proving that even after more than a decade-long drought, Death still has impeccable timing and a wicked sense of humor. It’s a macabre family reunion, blending nostalgic thrills with enough fresh twists and genuine heart to keep things exciting. If you’ve ever nervously eyed a ceiling fan, tanning bed, or log truck with a deep-seated unease, rest assured: Death hasn’t lost your number.

Death has a design, and it includes you watching "Final Destination Bloodlines" before reading this article, as there are heavy spoilers ahead.
"Final Destination" is one of the most underrated horror franchises out there. Sure, it isn't as influential as some of the heavier hitters, but with the low number of entries comes a higher batting average. Even the worst of the "Final Destination" movies still has some great kills and novel concepts for the franchise. Indeed, what makes this horror series stand out is how inventive it is, taking a rather simple concept and constantly exploring new aspects of it.

Final Destination Bloodlines, the sixth installment in the beloved supernatural horror series, opens Friday in theaters. Fans loved the first five Final Destination movies, but they've all been met with a log to the face at the Academy Awards. After this week's glowing critics' reviews, Bloodlines could find itself competitive in four Oscar categories next year ... if voters aren't too afraid.
Kaitlyn Santa Juana stars as Stefani Reyes, a present-day college student inexplicably haunted by a tower collapse from 1968. Teo Briones plays Charlie Reyes, Stefani's younger brother, while Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, and Anna Lore play their cousins. Rya Kihlstedt portrays Stefani and Charlie's estranged mother, Darlene Campbell, and the dual role of Grandma Iris was given to Gabrielle Rose (the older version) and Brec Bassinger (the younger version). Planes, tanning beds, speeding buses, escalators, elevators, fire escapes, air bags, pool drains, gymnastics, acupuncture, nail guns, plates of glass, weight machines, trains, corrective laser eye surgery, driving over bridges, and, of course, driving behind logging trucks are all things that have been ruined for someone courtesy of the first five "Final Destination" movies. Now, the sixth installment, "Final Destination Bloodlines," is ready to terrorize a new generation by awakening new anxieties within us all that we never knew we had.
But how do the twisted minds behind these movies decide what everyday occurrence is going to be irreversibly associated with freak accidents and irrational paranoia? As "Bloodlines" co-director Zach Lipovsky tells me, "It takes many years, and it's an incredible iterative process." Part of that process is a legitimate roundtable with the writers, where they sit back and brainstorm, "What are the things that we can ruin for people?...

Horror’s most ingenious death traps have returned to the big screen as “Final Destination Bloodlines” opens in theaters this weekend.
The R-rated Warner Bros. and New Line horror has made $5.5 million in Thursday previews at the box office. The film is expected to make between $35 million to $45 million in its debut, which would be the franchise’s highest opening weekend ever. It’s on track to add $35 million internationally for a global start of $70 million to $80 million. Costing roughly $50 million to produce, the film should be another bloody good return for Warner Bros. after it had huge success with “Sinners” and “A Minecraft Movie” last month.
“The Final Destination,” the fourth entry released in 2009, currently holds the franchise’s record for highest opening with $28.3 million, followed by “Final Destination 3” with $19.1 million and “Final Destination 5” with $18.4 million.

Pictures Final Destination Bloodlines, the sixth film in the franchise, sticks to the formula fans know well—gruesome, inventive death scenes and a desperate fight against fate. This chapter centers on Stefani, a college student played by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, as she and those around her try to outrun death’s design once again. She discovers a dark family secret: they’re being targeted by Death because Stefani’s grandmother messed with its plans a while back. So, instead of a random group of survivors, it’s a whole family in danger. This premise adds a new layer to the familiar formula, exploring how past actions can have deadly consequences for future generations. Final Destination Bloodlines doesn’t hold back on what fans expect—elaborate, grisly deaths that push creativity to new extremes.

This article contains spoilers for the "Final Destination" franchise, including "Bloodlines."
One of the highlights of 2000's "Final Destination" is how Glen Morgan and James Wong reconfigured Jeffrey Reddick's premise about a boy helping himself and others escape their fate after having a premonition of a deadly airplane accident into a slasher film where the killer is literally Death. Not only did this mean that Death was never personified or ever really seen in the movie, but it also allowed for Morgan and Wong (the latter also being the director) to present each kill scene as a series of escalating mishaps and accidents, essentially turning each setpiece into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine of mayhem. When "Final Destination 2" was made just a few years later, the filmmakers could've simply written a sequel that repeated the premise of the first film, and ostensibly, they did. It's a formula that would work,...
