Watch Tony Hawk Lose X Games Gold to 12-Year-Old Skate Prodigy (Video)
Tony Hawk at an event for Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2009 (2009)
They say don’t meet your heroes, so beating your heroes is probably ill-advised as well — unless you’re dealing with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. Brazilian skateboarder Gui Khury did just that at the 2021 X Games, becoming the youngest gold medalist in the competition’s 27-year history and earning major props from his childhood idol.

On Friday night, 12-year-old Khury made X Games history by landing a 1080 turn on a vertical ramp, winning the Vert Best Trick contest. Khury beat out eight other competitors, including Hawk himself.

Watch Khury pull the incredible move and earn a congratulatory embrace from the skate legend here.

Michael Strahan at an event for Frangins malgré eux (2008)
Michael Strahan is a man who doesn’t mind getting down, dirty and even slimy for a job.

The former Super Bowl champion and current “Strahan and Sara” co-host is returning to Nickelodeon to host the “Kids’ Choice Sports 2019,” the network announced on Thursday.

“Nickelodeon’s ‘Kids’ Choice Sports’ is a one-of-a-kind awards show that brings all-star athletes, kids and of course, slime together,” Strahan in a statement. “When I hosted the first year of the show, I loved it — the energy, stunts, kids, crowd and slime … a lot of slime!

“Hosting this show has been one of my favorite things I’ve done, and this year is going to be the biggest, the baddest and the slimiest,” he added.
