Canadian actress Laura Afelskie grew up in a sports-centric household, juggling soccer, cross country, and hockey throughout elementary and high school. However, her true calling was always the performing arts. From a young age, Laura captivated family and friends with her singing, karaoke performances, and participation in school talent shows-anywhere she could find an audience.
In 2015, Laura's passion took a professional turn when she was cast as Ariel in "Footloose," marking her first lead role in a musical. That same year, she made her on-screen debut as a featured singer at Family Channel's Big Ticket Summer Concert, broadcast from the Budweiser Stage across Canada. Driven to hone her craft, Laura researched the top acting classes and studied in both Toronto and Los Angeles. Her dedication paid off in 2016 when she signed with agent Sandra Gillis and was cast in "Black Widow Killer," portraying the younger version of Erin Karpluk. In 2019 after winning an international acting competition, Laura was flown to LA for the Scenebot showcase which led to her signing with manager James Symington.
Her breakout year came in 2021 booking a role in the Christmas movie "Secret Santa" (directed by Lane Bishop, known for The Duff), then being cast to play Jess Brewster in Netflix's "Painkiller" from the creators of Narcos (directed by Peter Berg, known for Friday Night Lights), and finished her year with a role in CW's "In the Dark". In 2023, Laura landed her first lead role in Lifetime's, "Our Mother's Secret Affair," starring alongside her childhood idol, Ashley Leggat. She continued her momentum with notable performances in "Little Girl in Window" and "The Daughter I Gave Away" in 2024.
Most recently, Laura was cast in the Netflix series "BET," a live-action adaptation of the popular manga "Kakegurui," directed by Simon Barry, shooting in the summer of 2024.
Outside of her acting career, Laura is an avid fitness enthusiast, enjoying yoga, Pilates, and kickboxing. She also loves journaling, horseback riding, and spending quality time with her loved ones.
