Fares Abdel Kerim, born in Paris, France, is a filmmaker, editor, and photographer. The son of internationally acclaimed sculptor Salah Abdel Kerim, Fares was exposed to the world of art from a young age and developed a deep passion for cinema.
His filmmaking journey began at 16 with a Super 8 camera, and by 1992, he had directed his first short film, Cityscape. He began his career in 1994 editing at Americana Advertising Agency before moving to Italy, where he worked as a promo editor for Orbit for four years and then moved to Paris where he edited numerous TV programs. He later studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) and in 2003 made his first 16mm short, Lara and the Toymaker. Fares worked as a promo producer for FOX International Channels for two years, and upon returning to Egypt in 2006, he edited over 30 theatrical trailers and several renowned TV series and programs, including Heikal, Neeran Sadeeka and Vertigo. In 2019, he edited the Egyptian war epic El Mammar.
Alongside his film work, Fares is an active photographer, continuing to explore and contribute to the visual arts.
