One Of The Best Scenes In The Mask Of Zorro Was Anthony Hopkins' Idea

Martin Campbell's "The Mask of Zorro" is one of the most rousing adventure films of the 1990s, a bracing throwback to old-school Errol Flynn swashbucklers that dazzles with masterfully staged sword fights. Perhaps most importantly, it's powered by an emotionally resonant narrative that raises the stakes sky-high, leading to a breathtaking climax that had audiences cheering all three times I saw the film theatrically.

Antonio Banderas is absolute perfection as Alejandro Murrieta, a rakish outlaw who becomes the unlikely successor to Anthony Hopkins' Don Diego de la Vega, aka Zorro. Murrieta also falls for Catherine Zeta Jones' beautiful and feisty Elena Montero, who does not know that her father, the evil Don Rafael Montero, stole her as an infant from de la Vega and his wife Esperanza (Julieta Rosen).

‘This Fool’ Renewed for Season 2 at Hulu

Hulu has renewed “This Fool” for a second season.

The half-hour comedy is set in working class South Central Los Angeles. The show centers around Julio Lopez (Chris Estrada), a 30-year-old who still lives at home, has been dating his girlfriend on and off since high school, and finds any excuse to avoid dealing with his own problems. Julio works at Hugs Not Thugs, a gang rehabilitation non-profit, where he butts heads with his older cousin Luis (Frankie Quiñones), an ex-gang member who just got out of prison and has moved in with Julio and his family. The cast also includes Laura Patalano as Julio’s mother Esperanza, Michelle Ortiz as his girlfriend Maggie, Julia Vera as his grandmother Maria and Michael Imperioli as his boss Minister Payne.

Children’s & Family Emmys: Netflix Leads Nominations for First Awards Ceremony

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Tuesday announced nominations for the first-ever Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, to be presented Dec. 10 and 11 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. These awards mark the first stand-alone expansion of the Emmys since 1979.

“Putting a spotlight on children’s & family programming after years of unparalleled growth in content quality and quantity in this space is an exciting moment for the television industry,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS, in a press statement. “These programs entertain, inform and educate family members of all ages, and NATAS is proud to mark this milestone event and give these creators the stage they deserve.”

Netflix leads the pack of nominated streamers and networks by a landslide, with a whopping 83 nominations that sees recognition for popular family offerings like Heartstopper and The Baby-Sitters Club.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Tuesday morning announced the nominations for the inaugural Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, which will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 10 (Creative Arts) and Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles.

Disney+’s The Mysterious Benedict Society and the movie Sneakerella lead the pack with 11 nominations each, followed by HBO Max’s Sesame Street (with 10) and Netflix’s Heartstopper and Sweet Tooth (which netted nine apiece).
