The calendar flipped to July this week. There is plenty of ongoing scripted programming to help you pass the time indoors and away from the oppressive heat and humidity of summer. But in terms of new shows, Netflix’s latest sports documentary series, “Sprint: The World’s Fastest Humans,” is the highlight of the long holiday weekend.
The streaming service’s newest addition is a six-episode series that offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be not just an elite athlete but one of the fastest people alive. A perfectly timed primer for the Paris Olympics later this month, the show — all episodes of which are now streaming on Netflix — follows top sprinters throughout the 2023 World Championships, including Americans Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles, and Jamaican superstar Shericka Jackson, among others. If you can keep up, “Sprint: The World’s Fastest Humans” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

Budapest, Aug 26 (Ians) Both Yulimar Rojas and Haruka Kitaguchi triumphed at the World Athletics Championships with their final attempts while Noah Lyles added the 200m title to his 100m crown. Yulimar Rojas, the world record holder and Olympic champion in the women’s triple jump, was far from her best form as she was eighth in 14.33m with only one jump to go, reports Xinhua.
But the 27-year-old Venezuelan only needed one opportunity to leave everyone behind. A final jump of 15.08m enabled her to win the world title four times in a row, as Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk of Ukraine and Cuban Leyanis Perez Hernanedez followed behind in 15.00m and 14.96m respectively.
“It was very difficult. The fact that I won the competition with my last attempt makes it very special and memorable,” said Rojas. “This is my seventh world championship gold in a row (outdoors and indoors), but this is...

Budapest, Aug 22 (Ians) Debutant Sha’Carri Richardson outshone several renowned sprinters to clinch the top spot in the women’s 100m race at the World Championships on Monday.
The 23-year-old American, beginning inconspicuously from the ninth lane, surged impressively, clocking a new tournament record of 10.65 seconds, Xinhua reports.
In a riveting face-off at center stage, Jamaican veterans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson vied for dominance. Fraser-Pryce’s season-best of 10.77 seconds fell short against Jackson’s 10.72 seconds. The pair could only observe as an elated Richardson jubilantly celebrated on the track.
“I’m here. I’m the champion. I told you all. I’m not back, I’m better,” expressed Richardson, who had missed the Tokyo Olympic Games due to a suspension for cannabis use and failed to qualify for the previous year’s World Championships because of subpar performance.
Holding five world champion titles in the event, Fraser-Pryce divulged her intent to forgo the 200m race.
