Elon Musk Rails Against Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, Vows To “Fire All The Politicians” Who “Betrayed The American People” — Update
Image
Updated, with additional comments: Elon Musk again attacked the centerpiece of Donald Trump’s legislative agenda, the Big Beautiful Bill Act, this time calling the tax and spending package a “disgusting abomination.”

Musk posted against the legislation late into the night on Tuesday, as GOP leaders on the Hill played defense.

Musk wrote on X on Tuesday, “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

“It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.”

Later, he wrote, “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

Musk has poured hundreds of millions into supporting Trump, and the GOP had been expecting him to play a major role in the midterms next year.

Kristi Noem Ignores the Law — and Reality — in Tense Immigration Hearing
Image
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testified before the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The leader of the Trump administration’s deportation push had a lot to answer for.

In a hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee, Democrats grilled Noem about the arrest of Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka; the deportation of citizen children along with their immigrant parents; and the Trump administration’s continued noncompliance with court orders mandating due process for migrants.

In one contentious moment, Noem defended the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man...

Sean Penn Says Trump Might ‘Try To Destroy The World’ Before Leaving Office
Image
Sean Penn fears the worst regarding President Donald Trump’s legacy on America.

The Mystic River star appeared on The Jim Acosta Show to discuss the current political climate and promote the movie Words of War.

Penn has made his political views and activism no secret. He and his charity Core provided aid to Ukrainian refugees, and he has since continued to maintain close relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This is not the first time Penn has criticized Trump. Back in 2021, he slammed the President’s response to Covid-19, comparing it to a “machine gun” against vulnerable communities.

Penn, host Jim Acosta and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) discussed El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele and the deportation of American citizens to the supermax prison in El Salvador.

“Donald Trump, despite his fantasies, is not gonna be in office forever,” Acosta said. “He’s not Vladimir Putin. He’s not gonna stick around for 25 years.

Why Sean Penn Says Donald Trump “Might Try to Destroy the World”
Image
Sean Penn believes there’s a possibility President Donald Trump “might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life.”

While promoting his new film Words of War during a recent appearance on The Jim Acosta Show on Substack, the actor and filmmaker was asked if he thought Trump would attempt to stay in the White House past his term limit, as the president has already teased a 2028 presidential run.

Penn told host Jim Acosta that “we should consider worst-case scenarios” given the current tense political climate, suggesting that Trump “might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life.”

“I do think it’s a reasonable theory that Donald Trump is not unlike the spouse of someone who leaves him, perhaps for another, who then murders their former partner because if they can’t have her, nobody can,” the two-time Oscar winner added. “I think...

Sean Penn Offers Prediction About the Future of Donald Trump's Presidency
Image
Sean Penn, the Hollywood star and two-time Academy Award winner, has always tilted towards a progressive political standpoint and has even shown himself beside controversial left-wing figures. It shouldn't be a secret that he doesn’t see eye to eye with President Donald Trump's views, and at some point, he even compared voting for Trump to "masturbating our way into hell." His latest statement is no different, as the actor has said that Trump "might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life," and that "we should consider worst-case scenarios" if he decides to run for a third term.

Per the report by Variety, Penn appeared on Jim Acosta's podcast to talk about his latest project as producer, Words of War. "We are tasting in our country what the Russians have gone through," the actor said when comparing Russia and the U.S. and how politicians treat the people.

Sean Penn is not holding back when it comes to his opinion of Donald Trump’s second term as president. Speaking on Jim Acosta‘s Substack podcast, the actor said he is concerned about whether Trump will attempt to remain in office.

“We should consider worst case scenarios,” Penn said, after speaking about El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele. “I do think it’s a reasonable theory that Donald Trump is not unlike the spouse of someone who leaves him, perhaps for another, who then murders their former partner because...

Sean Penn Says Donald Trump ‘Might Try to Destroy the World’
Image
Sean Penn appeared on Jim Acosta’s Substack podcast recently to talk about the new film “Words of War,” and the discussion ranged across several topics in world politics. The always-outspoken actor and activist didn’t hold back his thoughts about the danger of President Trump and the direction the country is heading in.

While talking about El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele and whether Trump will try to stay in the White House past his term limit, Penn said that “we should consider worst cast scenarios” and that Trump “might try to destroy the world before he ages out of life.”

“I do think it’s a reasonable theory that Donald Trump is not unlike the spouse of someone who leaves him, perhaps for another, who then murders their former partner because if they can’t have her, nobody can,” Penn said. “I think Donald Trump and his solipsism...

Gavin Newsom’s Podcast Interview With Steve Bannon “Unforgivable And Insane,” Says Adam Kinzinger
Image
“Many of us sacrificed our careers trying to take these people on and Newsom’s trying to make a career with them.”

That was former Republican U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger reacting to California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom having the Trump White House’s onetime chief strategist Steve Bannon on his podcast today. Though a Republican, Kinzinger served on the the House Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack and has been vocal in his opposition to Trump’s claims of voter fraud and attempts to overturn the results.

Newsom has used his new podcast to engage with far Right figures, having unusually friendly conversations with his first two guests, Michael Savage and Charlie Kirk, as well as with Bannon this week. In a world that could use more bipartisanship, that kind of amity is arguably a good thing. But many, like Kinzinger, saw the Bannon interview as a betrayal.

“Bannon...

The Right Knows Migrants Aren’t Actually Eating Cats — They Just Don’t Care

Donald Trump’s running mate doubled down on the disproven, racist lie that Haitians are eating cats and other animals in Springfield, Ohio, on Tuesday, acknowledging on X, formerly Twitter, that the conspiracy theory is a “rumor” while encouraging followers to keep spreading it, anyway.

Springfield police have said they have not received any reports of such events, and city engagement manager Karen Graves said “there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.”

J.D. Vance posted about the fabrication on Monday.

House Democrat Eric Swalwell Teams With Showbiz Insiders to Craft Meme-Friendly Political Ads: ‘This Election Is About Freedom Over Fear’
Image
The final scoring session was done in under 30 minutes. The only question to be sorted out: Should the first ominous note hit just before or after the reveal of Trump?

On Aug. 5, writer-producer David Grae, editor Michael Lim and composer W.G. Snuffy Walden gathered via Zoom with Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., to study a cut of a pointed political ad created as part of a larger campaign to keep former President Donald Trump from retaking the White House.

The Hollywood production veterans realized that the timing of a key moment in Walden’s score for the 30-second spot needed adjusting. Swalwell acknowledged that Walden, an Emmy winner for his work on “The West Wing,” had a tough assignment.

“You’re being asked to go from ‘Here Comes the Sun’ to ‘Jaws,’” he observed with a laugh. The video being dissected features a Trump impersonator at the wheel of a school bus.

Republicans Dodging Subpoenas Vote to Hold Merrick Garland in Contempt

Republicans voted on Wednesday to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress over the Justice Department’s refusal to turn over audio recordings of interviews President Joe Biden gave to Special Counsel Robert Hur. The 216-207 vote came down largely on party lines.

In January of last year, Garland appointed Hur, a Donald Trump appointee, to lead the DOJ’s investigation into classified documents found at Biden’s home and office. The investigation took place amid a parallel probe into Trump’s own retention of classified documents that...

Fighting The Deepfakes: Congressman Eric Swalwell Puts Up AI Protections With LA Tech Firm For Reelection Campaign
Image
A frequent target of harsh Republican attacks, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-ca) is putting up the digital barricades for his reelection campaign.

On the ballot in November like every member of the House of Representatives, the six-term California Congressman has teamed up with the technology services of Wolfsbane.ai to protect himself against AI deepfakes and other manipulations.

“Ensuring the integrity of our democratic process is of paramount importance,” Rep. Swalwell said Tuesday of the realities of running for office in the 21st century. “Embracing cutting-edge tools such as Wolfsbane.ai to prevent deepfakes is not just an option; it’s a necessity in safeguarding elections against fraud and misinformation,” the ranking member of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Congressional Subcommittee stated.

Long an advocate on the power of technology in the contemporary political arena, Swalwell is the first elected official to partner with Wolfsbane.ai, but he likely won’t be the last.

Bob Woodward Says Donald Trump “Does Not Understand Democracy”; Journalist Joins ‘Anna’ Post-Screening Panel To Talk Press Freedom, 2024 Election
Image
When the National Press Club hosted a post-screening panel on the upcoming movie Anna, about Russian journalist and Vladimir Putin critic Anna Politkovskaya, the conversation — to not much of a surprise — led to Donald Trump and what his potential return to the White House would mean for democracy.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-ca) and former CIA director John Brennan joined journalist Bob Woodward for the post-screening event Wednesday evening, and each chimed in on the potential impact of another Trump presidency.

Woodward, who released 20 audio interviews with Trump as part of The Trump Tapes in 2022, said, “I think an important question about Trump is, ‘Who is he?'”

“In the course of these interviews I asked him, ‘What’s the job of the president?’ And he said, ‘To protect the people.’ Now that’s a good answer. He did not protect the people [in the Covid crisis]. And if you get into this — I think...

Dems Kick Off High-Profile Hearing With Supercut of Trump’s Mental Gaffes

Former Special Counsel Robert Hur’s highly anticipated testimony before the House Judiciary Committee began with a compilation of Donald Trump’s many gaffes and errors — undercutting the Maga Republicans who presumably want to use the hearing to impugn President Joe Biden’s mental fitness.

The supercut, prepared by Ranking Member Jerry Nadler (D-n.Y.) featured clips of Trump erroneously identifying international and American leaders, struggling to remember when he was married to his ex-wife, and other instances of the former president stumbling over his words and short-circuiting on camera.

Republicans Are Basically Admitting the Hunter Biden Deposition Was a Bust

Republicans are trying to spin the Biden impeachment inquiry forward after an hours-long deposition with his son Hunter Biden on Wednesday. It’s proving difficult, as the closed-door hearing doesn’t seem to have yielded many revelatory details.

Some Republicans are even conceding that Biden performed well under questioning. “I think when the transcript comes out, it’s gonna read well for him, because they did a great job prepping,” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) told Fox News host Harris Faulkner Thursday.

Trump Lawyer Claims Presidential Immunity Covers Having Rivals Assassinated

Former President Donald Trump is in D.C. on Tuesday sitting in on an appeals court hearing regarding his claim of “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution for acts he may or may not have committed as president. The arguments are already getting absurd.

Judge Florence Y. Pan, a member of the three-appellate judge panel that will rule on the question, asked Trump’s attorney, John Sauer, if — hypothetically — a president could order S.E.A.L. Team Six to assassinate their political rival and be immune from criminal prosecution.

Trump Mocks Nancy Pelosi’s Husband, Paul, After Brutal Hammer Attack As Crowd Cheers
Image
On Friday, former President Donald Trump mocked House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and her husband in the wake of a brutal attack in the family’s home last October.

Nancy’s husband Paul Pelosi’s skull was fractured in the attack where an assailant had beat him with a hammer.

Trump had previously responded publicly to the attack with trademark far-right conspiracies and called the attack a “sad situation.”

At a state party convention of California Republicans, Trump said, “We’ll stand up to crazy Nancy Pelosi, who ruined San Francisco — how’s her husband doing, anybody know? And she’s against building a wall at our border, even though she has a wall around her house — which obviously didn’t do a very good job.”

Republicans cheered Trump as he rattled off attacks on several of California state’s most prominent progressive Democrats.

Notably absent from Trump’s...

Sean Penn, At D.C. ‘Superpower’ Screening, Urges U.S. To “Get Out Of The Pure Caution Business” When It Comes To Arming Ukraine
Image
Sean Penn urged the White House to take a more aggressive approach toward arming Ukraine, telling a crowd at a screening of his film Superpower that those who are influencing U.S. policy “need to get out of the pure caution business.”

“I don’t mind being foolish in saying that I deeply believe, whether Democrat or Republican, if this was an issue that one of the parties chose to commit to, in arming Ukraine, that not only would it be a principal win, but it would be a political win. I think we are hungering for that kind of decisiveness,” Penn told CBS News’ Major Garrett.

“Caution has been very important, humanly and politically … But many times in emergencies, restraint is the enemy of action,” Penn added. “I think that there are influential people, perhaps influential with our president, who they themselves need to be encouraged to get out...

Kevin McCarthy Orders Impeachment Inquiry Against Biden Without House Vote
Image
The House is back in session, and Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s first order of business was to announce that he will direct a House committee to open “a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.” Notably, the decision allows McCarthy and Republicans to skirt a full vote in the House on weather or not to proceed with an impeachment investigation.

In a televised statement delivered Tuesday at the Capitol, McCarthy cited allegations of “abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption,” against Biden that warranted “further investigation by the House of Representatives.

First Presidential Candidate Drops Out Of 2024 Race; Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Suspends Campaign
Image
The 2024 presidential race already has its first candidate to drop out: Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.

The GOP contender announced on Tuesday that he was suspending his campaign, which failed to gain traction amid a large field of alternatives to front runner Donald Trump. Suarez failed to qualify for the first presidential debate last week, something that also may prove to be a reckoning for other candidates absent from the stage.

“While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains,” Suarez said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I will continue to amplify the voices of the Hispanic community – the fastest-growing voting group in our country. The Left has taken Hispanics for granted for far too long, and it is no surprise that so many are finding a home in America’s conservative movement.

Hunter Biden
Fox News Features Stephen A. Smith in Lineup of Political Media Reacting to Hunter Biden News: ‘Migh Gawd!’ (Video)
Hunter Biden
A Fox News production crew dug deep Friday for left-leaning media reaction to the news that Hunter Biden’s plea deal with prosecutors was put on hold.

What it found was no surprise, unless ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is on your list of experts on the workings of American government.

Smith, as to not disappoint as he was featured among a group of political reporters, anchors and pundits in a segment “The Five” rolled out, served up a signature dish of Stephen A. spice, falling in line near the front of the pack after only U.S. Rep Eric Swalwell and his comments to CNN, which were highlighted by the California congressman saying Hunter Biden is “trying to take responsibility.”

“The Republicans in the House want to be in an uproar,” Smith said as the “The Five” montage cuts= to the “First Take” host, who for this clip was...

Dems Call Out GOP Hypocrisy During Stunt Hearing With FBI Director
Image
Republicans hauled FBI Director Christopher Wray in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday as part of their effort to tear down federal law enforcement for investigating Donald Trump. The hearing was a circus, with Republicans pressing Wray about various conspiracy theories and generally doing whatever they could do to portray the FBI as a corrupt extension of the Biden administration.

Democrats spent their time highlighting the absurdity of the idea, considering Wray is a registered Republican appointed by Trump. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) poked several additional holes in...

Theater Owners Group Taps Video Game Industry Veteran Amanda Martin as Chief of Staff
Eric Swalwell
The National Association of Theatre Owners has named Amanda Matin as their first chief of staff. Martin will report directly to president and CEO Michael O’Leary while working across all NATO organizations, including the Cinema Foundation and CinemaCon, in this newly created position.

“Amanda brings operational expertise, good judgment and a collaborative spirit to NATO,” O’Leary said. “She will work with me and the entire team to enhance our collective work serving our members all across the nation.”

Martin joins NATO from the Entertainment Software Association, a trade association that represents the video game industry. During that tenure, which lasted for three years, she held a series of increasingly senior positions at the prior company, including most recently being associate director for government affairs. Martin had previously worked, from November 2017 to June 2020, in the district office of Congressman Eric Swalwell.

O’Leary further stated that “Having worked with Amanda for three years,...

Father of Parkland Victim Arrested at Congressional Gun Hearing
Image
A man who lost his son in the 2018 mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, was arrested outside of a House hearing on the Second Amendment on Thursday. Manuel Oliver, as well as his wife Patricia Oliver, were ejected from the hearing after exchanging words with lawmakers prior to the arrest.

Freshman Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) posted a video of the arrest on social media. “Manny Is A Hero,” Frost wrote. “He didn’t deserve this. The Republican Chair of this committee just called him a narcissist. Disgraceful.”

Here is @manueloliver00 being...

Matt Gaetz Called Out for Citing Chinese Propaganda in Hearing
Image
Matt Gaetz has been one of the most vocal Republicans in Congress when it comes to cracking down on China. It had to be more than a little embarrassing on Tuesday, then, when the Florida congressman got called out in a House Armed Services Committee hearing for citing Chinese propaganda while trying to make a point about cutting off U.S. aid to Ukraine.

“Is the Azov Battalion getting access to U.S. weapons?” Gaetz asked Colin Kahl, the U.S. defense undersecretary for policy. The Azov Battalion is a controversial,...

House Dems Want to Fight the GOP the Old Fashioned Way. Good Luck
Image
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) stood behind a lectern in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday morning and vowed she and her fellow Democrats “will always stand up to” Republicans’ efforts to “denigrate the integrity of the House.” At the moment, those efforts had amounted to a campaign to deny her a seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she had served since she entered the House in 2019. Standing on either side of her were a pair of congressmen who had suffered a similar fate: Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.

McCarthy Blocks Democrats Schiff and Swalwell From Intelligence Committee
Image
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy exiled Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday. The move intensifies an ongoing game of tit-for-tat over committee assignments, and makes good on McCarthy’s vow for revenge after Democrats and a handful of Republicans voted to oust Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) from their committees in 2021.

The decision is McCarthy’s first major act of partisan retribution since taking the majority earlier this month. In a formal letter detailing his decision to...

‘He’s a Repeat Offender:’ Dems Condemn Trump’s Call to Terminate Constitution
Image
After Donald Trump called for the “termination” of the Constitution, falsely claiming there was “Massive & Widespread Fraud & Deception” in the 2020 election, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) trolled Republican Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). “Sounds like the Constitution doesn’t matter much to your boss,” he wrote in a tweet that quoted McCarthy saying Republicans will “read every single word of the Constitution aloud” on the House floor when they regain their majority next year.

But Swalwell wasn’t alone. A number of Democrats spoke out over the weekend against the former...

‘It’s Going to Be Chaos’: McCarthy as Speaker ‘Will Adhere to the Wishes’ of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Schiff Says
Image
If he is elected speaker of the House next year when Republicans take control, current Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy has promised to strip certain Democrats — Reps. Adam Schiff, Ilhan Omar, and Eric Swalwell — of their committee assignments. When asked about the possibility of losing his place on the Intelligence Committee, Schiff said that McCarthy will be forced to bend to the will of the extremists in his party.

“I suspect [McCarthy] will do whatever Marjorie Taylor Greene wants him to do,” Schiff said Sunday during an appearance on ABC’s This Week.

Anti-Choice Lawyer Says Raped 10-Year-Old Should Have Been Forced to Have Baby
Image
A prominent Indiana lawyer stated that the 10-year-old Ohio girl who traveled to his state to seek an abortion should have been forced to give birth to the child. Jim Bopp, general counsel for the National Right to Life, told Politico that if it were up to him “she would have had the baby, and as many women who have had babies as a result of rape, we would hope that she would understand the reason and ultimately the benefit of having the child.”

Bopp, who authored model legislation in...

Republican Pulls Out a Bunch of Guns During Hearing on Curbing Gun Violence
Image
The House Judiciary Committee on Thursday debated recently introduced legislation called the Protecting Our Kids Act, which would prohibit people under 21 years old from buying semiautomatic guns and put restrictions on high capacity magazines, among other things.

Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.), who attended the hearing from his home by videoconference, used the opportunity to complain that at least three guns that he owns would be “banned” under the proposed law because lower capacity magazines don’t fit them. He decided to brandish them, too.

Everything you need to know about...

Biden’s State Of The Union Speech Heckled By Reps. Lauren Boebert & Marjorie Taylor Greene
Image
President Joe Biden was heckled during his State of the Union speech by Republican Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia tonight.

NBC’s Garrett Haake told viewers that Boebert “and Marjorie Taylor Greene…kept up something of a running commentary throughout much of the speech, interjecting.”

Boebert, who wore a wrap with the words “drill baby drill” on the back, appeared to be the night’s interjector-in-chief.

Biden, as he did throughout the speech, sought to find common cause with Republicans as he spoke of caring for U.S. servicemen and women who may have been exposed to toxic substances while Afghanistan and Iraq.

“When they came home, many of the world’s fittest and best-trained warriors were never the same,” he said. “Headaches. Numbness. Dizziness.”

He added, “A cancer that would put them in a flag-draped coffin, I know.”

Those last two words were...
