Miles Chamley-Watson

Miles Chamley-Watson
British-born New Yorker, Miles Chamley-Watson, is one of the most recognisable athletes on the global fencing scene today.

With his bold attitude and unique style, Miles Chamley-Watson has brought a modern element and entirely new audience to the centuries old sport of fencing.

In addition to aiming to be the best at his sport, Miles is dedicated to living his motto, "Create a Legacy, Not a Moment" by using his platform to champion diversity in fencing and speak up for others so that they're not bullied away from pursuing what they love.

Miles was born in London, England, and moved to the US when he was nine. As a school kid in New York City, he was introduced to the niche sport of fencing. He took to it right away, winning the Junior Olympics at age 13, a glimpse at what was to come later in life.

After high school, he achieved a full-ride fencing scholarship to Penn State, where he was a four-time All American who majored in sports management, and then he began to dominate the international fencing scene. He earned a spot in London, where he took fourth place, and in 2013, he became the first American to win an individual Senior World Championships, at the young age of 23. Three years later in Rio, Miles took third in the team event.

Over the course of his career, Miles has changed the game - from coining his own fencing move (called the Chamley-Watson) to becoming the global face of fencing. "What I love about fencing is it's just you and your opponent. It's so intimate," Chamley-Watson says. "It feels like nothing can stop you. That's what drew me in."
