Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024, Daniela Forever features the Crazy Rich Asians star as a heartbroken man named Nicolas, still reeling from the tragic death of his girlfriend, the titular Daniela (Beatrice Grannò). To recover from the shocking loss, he starts undergoing a clinical trial allowing him to control his dreams and, in turn, bring Daniela back... sort of. Collider can exclusively share the official trailer that shows how the lucid dreams bring light back into his life, but it starts becoming a problem as he becomes obsessed with the fantasy just beyond the waking world.

HBO’s set a February 16, 2025 premiere date for season three of the award-winning drama The White Lotus. The upcoming eight-episode season takes place in Thailand, with new episodes of the critically acclaimed series airing on Sundays at 9pm Et/Pt.

Besides announcing the premiere date, HBO dropped a short teaser and new photos from season three.

Mike White created the series and serves as writer, director, and executive producer. David Bernad and Mark Kamine also executive produce the new season which “is set at an exclusive Thai resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.”

Severin Launches New Seasonal Ghost Story Series On Shudder This December: "From boutique label Severin Films and renowned author, producer and filmmaker Kier-La Janisse comes new annual series The Haunted Season.

Created by Janisse and executive produced by Severin Films, new episodes of The Haunted Season will arrive on Shudder each December with chilling short form horror tales in the tradition of telling ghost stories for Christmas. Future episodes will be announced each year as the holiday season approaches.

Production is now underway on writer/director Ted Evans’ debut thriller “Retreat,” starring Anne Zander, James Boyle and Sophie Stone, with Ace Mahbaz and Anna Seymore rounding out the cast.

The film, featuring an all-deaf principal cast (Evans is also deaf), is set in an isolated deaf community, where cracks begin to appear in Matt’s (Boyle) seemingly idyllic world when the arrival of enigmatic outsider Eva (Zander) forces him to question the realities of his identity. Is Matt prepared to discover what lies beneath the surface of his supposedly utopian community and the costs demanded to maintain it?

XYZ Films is handling worldwide sales on “Retreat” as a part of their New Visions slate of films, an initiative designed to spotlight the boldest new voices alongside established talent striking a new path in the international space. It will be introducing the film to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market.

Up next from Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, V/H/S Viral, Colossal, Pooka Lives!) is Daniela Forever, and Deadline reports that Well Go USA has acquired North American rights.

After the death of his girlfriend Daniela (The White Lotus’ Beatrice Grannò), Nicolas (Henry Golding of Crazy Rich Asians), the protagonist of Nacho Vigalondo’s Daniela Forever, falls into a deep depression. Grief fogs daily life — slowing time and muting once pleasurable activities. Piles of clothes and dirty dishes precariously stacked on kitchen surfaces measure his uneven motivation. The atmosphere is bleak and Nicolas, a DJ living in Madrid, feels trapped. So when the chance to find relief from his punishing memories presents itself, he is intrigued.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, Daniela Forever is an inverse Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind mixed with the sci-fi preoccupations of last year’s Fingernails. The film follows Nicolas as he embarks on a drug trial treatment meant to alleviate his depression through lucid dreaming. Instead of erasing his memories, a pill allows him to conjure a false world in which Daniela is still alive.

Nicolas (Henry Golding) is a British DJ living in Madrid with a group of loyal friends and a luxurious apartment. He’s young, attractive, and still has his whole life ahead of him. But after the tragic death of his artist girlfriend Daniela (Beatrice Grannò) he doesn’t know what to do with himself. He spends his days pining for her, retreating deeper into his memories, unable to move forward. In an effort to help Nicolas move on, his friend Victoria (Nathalie Poza) signs him up for a clinical trail of a brand new drug that will allow him to construct his own dreams. Through lucid dreaming, Victoria hopes that Nicolas will focus on recreating memories before he met Daniela in order to break the bond of emotional dependency. The Variety and Chanel Female Filmmakers Dinner brought together an A-list lineup of Hollywood stars and creatives including Andrew Garfield, Elizabeth Olsen, “Nightbitch” director Marielle Heller (who attended this event mere moments before her film’s premiere), Danielle Deadwyler, Barry Keoghan and more for a vibrant night amidst the Toronto Film Festival. When Nicolás (Henry Golding) wakes from his dream, Daniela (Beatrice Grannò) is gone. It wasn’t some crazy adventure or anything, either. Just the two of them remembering the first time they met. The playback is imperfect. Or, at least, he thinks it is. How can we ever truly remember every little detail anyway? Or that what we thought was cool and funny didn’t actually come off as cruel? All we have is the sense of what we had. The bad times made worse and the good times made better. Our emotions are not quite clouding reality; perhaps protecting us from it. Because the memory is what lingers. It’s what we hold dear.

So when Victoria (Nathalie Poza) tells Nicolás there’s an experimental treatment that can help him cope with the fact that a memory of Daniela is all he has left, he jumps at the chance.

If you dreamed up a movie defined by empty creative choice after empty creative choice that completely collapses in on itself, it would probably look a lot like “Daniela Forever.”

Some of this is by design as it’s a film that sets out to challenge the foundations of its own premise, which involves a man enrolling in a treatment that allows him to have lucid dreams. When he then uses this to create a fake version of his girlfriend who has recently passed away, it initially plays as a derivative ripoff of the enduring “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” only in reverse. This is only the beginning as it gets much worse from there, becoming like the woeful recent misfire “The Greatest Hits” crossed with a far less imaginative, more insufferable version of “Inception.”

Variety is reporting that The Ritual — a new horror film starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens — has been sold to numerous outlets in the international market by XYZ Films. Both Pacino and Stevens will be portraying priests in the exorcism movie, while Ashley Greene and Abigail Cowen join them in the cast. David Midell is helming the film. Midell directs from a script written by himself and is co-written by Enrico Natale. The film is produced by Andrew Stevens, Mitchell Welch and Natale. The Ritual plans for release sometime in 2025.

XYZ, which has been quietly growing its own releasing arm on top of its sales operations, is planning a U.S. theatrical release in 2025.

Henry Golding is just like us: When he sees a film directed by the wonderfully inventive Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo, he’s all in. And, nearly a decade after being floored by Vigalondo’s big breakout, the Anne Hathaway-starring “Colossal,” Golding finally got to join the “kooky” filmmaker in his latest venture. As he tells us in his first interview in support of the film, the experience did not at all disappoint.

Vigalondo’s latest, “Daniela Forever,” will premiere this week at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it will open the Platform lineup. The film, which stars Golding and “The White Lotus” breakout Beatrice Grannò, is a sci-fi love story that blends together beloved films like “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “The Science of Sleep,” and even a bit of “Inception.” But, being a Vigalondo joint, the film is also very much its own thing.

Aubrey Plaza starred in The White Lotus Season 2, but the star has not seen herself in the series almost two years after it aired on HBO.

Due to technical difficulties, the Parks and Recreation alum says she hasn’t seen the Mike White-created series.

“I still haven’t, but I’m going to,” Plaza said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. I couldn’t figure out the password and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”

Plaza said that she has requested DVDs of the series to watch it, adding, “I’d love a DVD, but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”
