Sweet Tooth Season 2 Trailer: Hybrids And Humans Still Can't Get Along In Netflix's DC Comics Series
Image
If there's anything that the recent premiere of "The Last of Us" showed us, it's that there's still plenty of juice to wring out of the post-apocalyptic genre. The HBO show took its cues from the acclaimed video game series to give us another "Lone Wolf and Cub" story about a grizzled old man and the young ward he'll stop at nothing to protect. "Sweet Tooth," on the other hand, resides at the other end of the spectrum. Focusing on a group of kids who just happen to be, well, mutant hybrids, the Netflix series is adapted from the DC Comics series written and drawn by Jeff Lemire. Season 1 bowed in 2021 to exceptionally strong reviews and even a bevy of Emmy nominations, of which it won two: for Outstanding Supporting Performance and Outstanding Sound Mixing and Sound Editing.

Sweet Tooth’s Best Story Risks Destroying What Made Season 1 Work
Image
Sweet Tooth season 2 could destroy season 1's uplifting tone if it does not tread carefully into the source material's best story arc. Divided into three distinct parts, Sweet Tooth season 1's primary narrative unfolds from the naive and optimistic perspective of Gus, a charming deer/human hybrid on a journey to find his mother. Contrasting Gus' hopeful worldview, Sweet Tooth uses Dr. Aditya Singh's storyline to highlight how the desperation for survival has corrupted humanity in the wake of a deadly pandemic. The third arc delves deeper into the perils of Sweet Tooth's fairytale dystopia by highlighting the struggles of a woman who runs a shelter for hybrids.

As all three parts start intersecting with one another towards the end of Sweet Tooth season 1, it becomes evident that season 2 is about dip its feet into the darkest arcs of the source material. Although season 1 accurately adapts many elements...
