‘Ghosts’ at Sdcc: Show’s Stars Want Mark Hamill as the Devil, Tease More Guests for Season 5 (Video)
Image
Ghosts may not return for Season 5 until October, but the stars of CBS‘s hit comedy were spilling all of the need-to-know details about the upcoming chapter during their visit to the TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine San Diego Comic-Con studio. Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays living chef and B&b proprietor Jay, joined costars Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, and Devan Chandler Long, who portray Woodstone-bound spirits, jazz singer Alberta, Wall Street bro Trevor, and Viking Thorfinn, were all on site to spill teases on the latest season. As fans will recall, CBS renewed the series for Seasons 5 and 6 back in February 2025, promising viewers plenty of excitement in the years to come. As they sat down for an interview, the stars got candid about Jay’s future after his unintentional deal with demon Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), who they’d love to see in future roles, and much more. When...

‘Wicked: For Good’ Star, 24, Gives the Sequel's Plot a Magical Update [Exclusive]
Image
Magic is in the air, as we’re now only four months away from the arrival of Wicked: For Good, which will cap off the feature-length adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical of yesteryear. After collecting heaping piles of cash at the box office last year with the first half, all eyes are on the skies to see just how high the second part of the Jon M. Chu-helmed musical film will soar. Those of us out there who first fell in love with the show when it was on Broadway with Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the leading roles have a solid idea of what to expect from the next installment, but we also know that the creative team have extended the story a bit through extra scenes and songs that will better fill out the tale of the two besties-turned-faux-enemies.

Over the weekend, during the Sdcc festivities,...

‘Ghosts’ Cast Reveals How They’ll Step Up to Save Jay’s Soul in Season 5 [Exclusive]
Image
The end of Ghosts Season 4 left us on quite an interesting cliffhanger with not only Jay’s life but his eternal soul hanging in the balance. When Season 5 returns in a few months, we can expect to see the ghosts of Woodstone rally around Jay as they all must find a way to get him out of his contract with Elias. At San Diego Comic-Con, the cast of the hit sitcom stopped by the Collider studio for a delightful conversation with Perri Nemiroff, who asked Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, and Devan Chandler Long how their characters may contribute to the rescue plan.

Pinnock, who plays 1920s jazz singer Alberta, chimed in immediately, saying she’d be more than willing to go to hell to save Jay, whom she thinks of as a nephew. “Alberta wants to go to hell. I know that for sure. I wanna see what this universe looks like.

‘Ghosts’ Star Asher Grodman Reveals What Hetty and Trevor Are to Each Other [Exclusive]
Image
As we count down the weeks until GhostsSeason 5 premieres on CBS, some of the cast of the hit sitcom took to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend to give us our first taste of what to expect from the new season. Following a panel full of exciting announcements, including the return of Trevor’s daughter Abby (Gideon Adlon), a new Halloween episode, and more of Bela (Punam Patel) helping around Woodstone, Asher Grodman, Danielle Pinnock, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Devan Chandler Long stopped by the Collider studio for a delightful chat with Perri Nemiroff.

During their wide-ranging conversation, Nemiroff made sure to ask Grodman about Trevor’s ever-evolving relationship with Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), inquiring whether they’re stronger as “power friends” or as a “power couple.” To Grodman, whatever label they decide to give their complex and captivating relationship comes secondary to the tension and connection between Trevor and Hetty. He went...

Could ‘Ghosts’ Creators' New Vampire Series Crossover With the Haunted Sitcom? [Exclusive]
Image
Just before San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Ghostsshowrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman’s new vampire comedy series Eternally Yourshad been given a pilot order. When I spoke with Port and Wiseman back in May, they revealed that they’d originally written the pilot for the series a decade ago, and while it didn’t get picked up at the time, its existence is why they were tapped to work on the American adaptation of Ghosts.

When the cast came by the Collider studio this weekend at Sdcc, Perri Nemirofftook the opportunity to pose the question of a shared universe to Asher Grodman, Danielle Pinnock, Utkarsh Ambudkar, andDevan Chandler Long, all of whom were extremely on board. “I hope so,” said Ambudkar, rooting for Port and Wiseman to turn the two shows into a franchise. “Yeah," Ambudkar continued, "that'd be so exciting if these guys can make their own little universe,...

‘Ghosts’ Season 5 Is Celebrating Halloween in Style With Another Spooky Holiday Special
Image
In one of our favorite Sdcc traditions, the cast of Ghoststook to the stage in Ballroom 20 to preview their highly anticipated return in Season 5. Alongside series showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, Asher Grodman, Danielle Pinnock, Devan Chandler Long, and Utkarsh Ambudkar joined panel host and frequent Ghosts guest star Punam Patel for a delightful and surprising conversation filled with some delicious teases of what’s to come when the show returns to CBS on October 16.

The cast announced that not only will we be getting another Halloween episode featuring the ghosts, but that the mummy that was briefly mentioned in the last Halloween special will be playing a major role. Not only that, but Mary Holland's Puritan ghost Patience will be back — according to the cast, she'll have a "showdown" with Hetty's husband, Elias, and some of the ghosts she mentioned at the beginning of Season 4 will...

'Ghosts' Star Teases Pete and Alberta's "Tricky" Romance in Season 5: "He's Dating a Murderer!" [Exclusive]
Image
At the end of Season 4 of Ghosts, following a terrifying cliffhanger for Jay, the series left us with a sweet treat as Pete (Richie Moriarty) and Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) finally shared a kiss in the last moments of the finale. Pete has been pining for Alberta since Season 1, but Alberta only realized she reciprocated his feelings a few episodes ago. In Season 5, which premieres on CBS on October 16, Pete and Alberta will have to navigate this new dynamic as their opposites-attract relationship finally sets sail.

During the Collider Ladies Night panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Perri Nemiroff asked Danielle Pinnock about the kiss and how we can expect it to shape Alberta’s story in Season 5. Confessing that the bootlegging jazz singer is now in her “soft girl era,” Pinnock told the audience:

"First of all, Richie Moriarty is an incredible Pete, and I’m so excited I get to play Season 5 with him,...

Image
If you're obsessed with the afterlife of Ghosts, then prepare for a lifetime of more laughs with Joe Port and Joe Wiseman's new comedy series. The co-creators and executive producers of the hit CBS series Ghosts are developing another show, and CBS has ordered a pilot for it. Titled Eternally Yours, it is also set in a supernatural world, but this time, it features the undead rather than the just dead. Eternally Yours tells the story of two vampires who have been married for 500 years. However, their love is tested when their daughter begins dating a human. The show does not have a premiere date yet, and no cast has been announced. Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, and Jason Wang serve as executive producers on the project.

Meanwhile, the afterlife of Ghosts seems long after the hit comedy series was renewed for two more seasons. The renewal came as no surprise,...

Ghosts: Season Four Ratings + Viewer Votes
The colorful historical characters of the Ghosts TV series may be dead, but their show certainly isn't. The sitcom has been a big hit for CBS in the past, but nothing's guaranteed these days, especially in the television industry. The original UK version of the series ended after 34 episodes, and the US version has already surpassed that number. Will Ghosts be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned.

A single-camera comedy series, the Ghosts TV show stars Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Roman Zaragoza, Rebecca Wisocky, Sheila Carrasco, and Devan Chandler Long. In the story, freelance journalist Samantha (McIver) and up-and-coming chef Jay Arondekar (Ambudkar) are a couple from New York City. When Sam inherits a rundown country estate in upstate New York, they throw caution to the wind and decide to...

The Hollywood Reporter and GLAAD Celebrate Pride at Glittery Bash: “More Than Ever, It’s Important to be Loud, Proud and Vocal”
Image
The Hollywood Reporter partnered up with GLAAD for the Celebration of Pride ’25 party Wednesday night that brought a slew of guests from the LGBTQ community and allies to West Hollywood.

Several stars stopped by the celebration, presented by Paramount+ FYC at Sunset at Edition, to dance, chat and, most important, gather as a community — something GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos emphasized was critical. “I think more than ever it’s important to be loud and proud and vocal,” Ramos told THR before the large crowd gathered at the event, which also served as a celebration of GLAAD’s 40th year.

“The more that we can come together during Pride and remind the world that we are just like everyone else, we are everyday people, but we’re also super creative when it comes to the work that we do in the entertainment industry and beyond,” he added. “It’s unfortunate...

"She's In Her Soft-Girl Era": Ghosts Star Teases Alberta's Relationship With Pete In Season 5 After Season 4 Finale's Shocking Twist
Image
Series star Danielle Pinnock has high hopes for Pete and Alberta's Ghosts season 5 relationship. The spirits of CBS’s Ghosts are the show’s true stars, despite how pivotal Rose McIver’s Sam and Utkarsh Ambudkar’s Jay are to the show’s success. While Jay saving his soul from Elias will likely be Ghosts season 5’s most pressing storyline early on, plots like Sass’s romance with Joan and Pete and Alberta’s new relationship are just as likely to dominate the rest of the season's action.

While Sass and Joan’s Ghosts season 4 ending was disappointing, series star Danielle Pinnock’s recent red carpet comments toTHR prove that Pete and Alberta’s season finale frisson will soon become something bigger. Per Pinnock:

“Alberta… She’s in a little relationship, and she’s in her Soft-Girl Era, and so I can’t wait to see how that relationship blossoms with Pete,...

Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar has teased what fans can expect from his character in the upcoming fifth season of the hit CBS sitcom. His life is now at risk, as Elias will not stop until he claims Jay’s soul. Danielle Pinnock on playing Alberta in CBS’ ‘Ghosts,’ representation, and what’s next for the hit comedy
Image
For the last four years, Danielle Pinnock has been a ghost — and she couldn't be happier. As one of the large, spirited cast of CBS's Ghosts, Pinnock plays former Prohibition-era jazz singer Alberta, who died on New Year's Eve 1928 after accidentally drinking poisoned moonshine. But in Pinnock's hands, Alberta's living her very best afterlife as the show wraps up its fourth season and looks forward to the now-guaranteed two seasons more ahead.

Part of Pinnock's joy in the role, as she tells Gold Derby, comes from the way Alberta is written. "A lot of times what happens when you see any actor of color playing on broadcast television, we almost become decorations on a Christmas tree where we're just fun to look at, but no one really cares about our storylines," she says.

Not so with series creators and showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. That's very true with Alberta,...

Image
Editor's note: This article contains spoilers for the Ghosts Season 4 finale.

GhostsSeason 4 has come to a close. After 22 episodes of laughs and undead shenanigans, we've been left on the edge of our seats awaiting the return of Season 5 this fall. While the main cliffhanger revolves around the fate of Jay's (Utkarsh Ambudkar) soul after he signed a contract with Elias (Matt Walsh), who has upgraded his afterlife status to Demon, we're still curious about what's in store for the rest of our favorite characters. As far as relationships go, Season 4 took our ghosts all over the map — literally! [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Ghosts Season 4 Episode 22, “The Devil Went Down to Woodstone.”] Ghosts served up another massive cliffhanger in its latest finale as Season 4 closed out with Elias Woodstone’s (Matt Walsh) return in the aptly titled episode, “The Devil Went Down to Woodstone.” But it wasn’t all doom and gloom as it also made way for a potential relationship between Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and Pete (Richie Moriarty). The episode revolved around Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) throwing a book launch party for her and Isaac’s (Brandon Scott Jones) novel, but things got tense when Puritan spirit Patience (Mary Holland) reemerged from the dirt to warn that she felt evil had arrived at Woodstone. ‘Ghosts’ Season Finale: How the Return of Elias as the Devil’s Emissary Adds a Dangerous New Twist
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the season finale of “Ghosts,” which aired Thursday night on CBS.

Oh hell no. “Ghosts” just ended its fourth season with a hell of a cliffhanger: Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) has signed a new publicist to help drum up interest in his restaurant — and it appears to be working! But there’s a catch: That contract he signed wasn’t actually to hire a P.R. team. It was to sell his soul to the devil, and that’s not a publicist — that’s Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), who can now make physical appearances on earth as the devil’s emissary.

And here’s one more catch: The devil doesn’t want to wait for Jay’s soul. So Elias will now try to bring about Jay’s death, sooner rather than later.

This all went down at the end of the Season 4 finale,...

Your Favorite 'Abbott Elementary' Teacher Almost Had a Very Different Role on 'Ghosts'
Image
Sheryl Lee Ralph's Barbara Howard is one of the cornerstones of ABC's hit sitcom Abbott Elementary. However, the veteran actor almost haunted the set of a different sitcom entirely. In a new interview with the Sister Act star, she recounts how she almost became one of the spirits haunting Woodstone Manor on CBS' Ghosts. The near-miss happened when Ralph was starring on the Nina Dobrev sitcom Fam, which was cancelled after a single season. However, two of the Fam creatives, Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, asked her to be on a new series they were developing, Ghosts.

However, the role would have been a supporting one, and at that stage in her career, she wanted a lead role. She turned them down, and the role they had wanted her for, murdered Prohibition-era torch singer Alberta Haynes, went to rising star Danielle Pinnock. Instead, Ralph opted to star in an ABC pilot,...

“We’re All Having Such a Good Time”: ‘Ghosts’ Stars Asher Grodman and Sheila Carrasco Reveal Why they Want To Direct an Episode
Image
Any television lover will tell you that there’s just something special about cast-directed episodes. While it’s no easy feat, and not necessarily a job for every actor, seeing a show through the eyes of someone who’s on it every day often feels like a treat. Earlier this year, Ghostsfans were treated to a delightful episode helmed by series lead Rose McIver, a longtime goal for the actress finally realized. When I spoke to her for that episode, she admitted that she’d given quite a few of her co-stars the itch to get behind the camera, in one way or another, themselves. Often capturing a plethora of behind-the-scenes content, Román Zaragoza told me last week he’d jump at the opportunity to direct, and back in March, Danielle Pinnock told me she’s writing a spec script while they’re on hiatus.

Recently, I spoke with Asher Grodman and later,...

"There's Something Bizarre About It": 'Ghosts' Star Román Zaragoza Reveals What Kind of Flashbacks He Wants in Season 5
Image
With over 1000 years of character history, Ghostshas nearly endless opportunities for flashbacks, ranging from brief jokes to elaborate character reveals. In Season 4 alone, we've seen the first meeting between Sasappis (Román Zaragoza) and Thor (Devan Chandler Long), the moment Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) set out to chase her dreams of being a musician, and Flower's (Shiela Carrasco) early days in the cult.

I recently sat down with Zaragoza to unpack his big two-part romance arc in "His Girl Shiki" and this week's episode, "Smooching and Smushing," and during our delightful conversation, I had to ask what kind of flashbacks he'd like to see in the future now that the show has been renewed for two seasons. "Oh, boy. Gosh. I definitely want to see more of Thor and Sass before anyone else is there," he explained, building off of the flashback to their first meeting in this year's holiday special, "A Very Arondekar Christmas.
