Born in Bonn and raised in Nairobi, Philippa Ndisi-Herrmann is Kenyan-German filmmaker and actress. In her filmmaking, she is best known for short film, Seeds (Ecumenical Jury Prize, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen 2017) and feature documentary, New Moon (Best Documentary, DIFF 2018). Her works explore intimate and poetic narratives about childhood, memory, regeneration, inter-generational patterns and nature. She holds a BA in Script Writing and Directing for Fiction from AFDA, Cape Town (2008), and a Certificate in Writing the TV Bible from NFTS, London (2021). Philippa's work has been supported by Creative Europe, the British Film Institute, IDFA Bertha Fund, Goethe-Institut, the British Council, Göteborg International Film Festival Fund and Docubox. Her films have been exhibited at venues such as Turner Contemporary (UK, 2017), The National Museum (Kenya, 2013) and in collaboration with The Sundance Institute at MoCADA (New York City, 2011). An alumna of Berlinale Talents 2016, IDFA Summer School 2013 (Amsterdam), and Produire au Sud 2011 (Nantes), she is also a fellow of RAW Académie 2016 (Dakar). Self-taught in documentary filmmaking, she has filmed, directed, recorded sound, and produced most her own work. Philippa is also an astrologer and yoga teacher. She produces, Astral Love, a podcast reflecting on life through the lens of spirituality and astrology.
