- Vijay Kumar was born and brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He got a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from GCE, Salem.
A software engineer by profession, he quit his job to pursue his passion in cinema. He completed writing the screenplay for Uriyadi, after which he started a production house called Souvenir Productions to make the movie. He conducted acting workshops for debutantes for three months and then hired them.
