Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premiered in January to great reviews, but its debut came with some controversy. Hudson Thames, the voice actor reprising the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the animated series What If...?, was giving a seemingly innocent interview to promote the show's debut when some of his comments soon went viral. In the interview, Thames spoke about his initial concerns that the show would be "woke," and it was a sentiment that was met with near-universal criticism. Now, with some time away from those controversial comments, the actor is trying to set the record straight.
During an Instagram interview with Juju Green, Thames admitted that he thought the media "cherry-picked and used essentially with no context" his comments "to kind of stir up some drama." From there, he attempted to retract his initial "woke" comment about the series.
"So, obviously, something that I said was cherry-picked and...

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
The title "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" suggests a small-time superhero, but the series' 10-episode debut season pulled in faces from all across the Marvel Universe. Among the main cast, the show reinvented Nico Minoru (Grace Song) of "The Runaways" as the goth best friend of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames).
I grew up on the 1990s "Spider-Man" cartoon, which often featured Mighty Marvel Team-Ups between Spidey and other superheroes: X-Men, Captain America, etc. "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is doing the same. Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) shows up in the premiere and the finale. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) shows up in episode 6 to spar with Spider-Man, and his apprentice Finesse (Anjali Kunapaneni) is posing as one of Peter's fellow Oscorp interns.

Before Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premiered on Disney+, there were rumblings that Vincent D'Onofrio would lend his voice to an animated version of the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk.
It made sense with Charlie Cox's Daredevil set to appear but the series has been and gone and there was no sign of the villain currently serving as New York Mayor in Daredevil: Born Again. So, was he cut or is he being saved for a future season?
During a recent Q&a, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell discussed adding the Man Without Fear to the show and addressed the Kingpin rumours head-on.
"[Charlie Cox] has been awesome to work with," he started. "I did not know that we would get the opportunity to have him in the show. Very early on, I was like, 'Can we use Daredevil?' And they were like, 'Yes.' I was like, 'Can I use Charlie?...

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will live up to its genial title. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum confirmed plans to release yearly seasons of the well-received wall-crawler animated series, starting with a sophomore installment.
Ahead of the Daredevil: Born Again premiere event, Winderbaum commented, per Collider:
"We will have a Spider-Man season every year if I have anything to say about it," Winderbaum told Collider ahead of Daredevil: Born Again premiere. "What usually happens, as you know, in animation, is that there's a bigger gap between Season 1 and Season 2 than in subsequent seasons, and that'll be similar in Friendly. We will have to wait a little bit more than a year for Season 2, but then after that, it should come out on an annual cadence, hopefully."

Marvel Studios has come to terms with the fact its current approach to television isn't working and now plans to release multi-season shows yearly. So, hopefully no more one-off series meant to tee up movies or waits of upwards of 18 months - 2 years before a new season drops.
That plan seemingly extends to animation as Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, has shared a big update on Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's future.
Talking to Collider, he revealed that "Season 2 [will be released] in '26, I think," before explaining, "We will have a Spider-Man season every year if I have anything to say about it. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man went from being a series no one seemed particularly excited about to a show it seems everyone is now raving about.
During a recent interview with The Breakroom, showrunner Jeff Trammell looked back at season 1 and revealed some of the characters he wasn't able to use. Among them was the relatively obscure Spider-Man villain, Big Wheel.
To bring you up to speed, the comic book version of the character was Jackson Weele, a New York businessman who had embezzled from his company. Fearing that he might be caught, he hired Rocket Racer to steal the incriminating evidence, only for the criminal to blackmail him.
In response, Weele turned to the Tinkerer to create a large metal single-wheeled vehicle - outfitted with all manner of weapons - and became the supervillain known as Big Wheel.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man wrapped up earlier this week but we already have a first look at season 2. In an unexpected move, the show will introduce Gwen Stacy...and Spider-Gwen!
You may recall us pointing out that the spider that bit Peter Parker hitched a ride on an unknown Midtown High student's bag after sinking its fangs into the teenager. Based on what we see here, we'd bet on that being Gwen.
In the finale, Peter severed ties with Norman Osborn and Oscorp but with Spider-Gwen wielding a device that looks a little like a pumpkin bomb at first glance, could it be that she's the company's new superhero? It's also possible Norman had more spiders than just the one we saw escape into the past.
This will be the first time we've seen Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen portrayed as being the same age and from the same universe since the short-lived 2017 Spider-Man.

Spider-Man is in safe hands with Marvel Studios but, in an effort to differentiate this web-slinger from those played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, some much-loved aspects of the character haven't really found their way into the MCU.
We've seen Tom Holland's Peter Parker protect Queens, battle Mysterio in London, and team up with his Variants at the Statue of Liberty. However, it wasn't until Spider-Man: No Way Home that fans got a "final swing" through Manhattan...and even that was shorter than most would like.
Chances are Spider-Man 4 will change things, but in the season finale of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (you can read a full breakdown of all the biggest moments and spoilers here), we get a truly spectacular final swing.
In fact, this is arguably better than anything we've seen in the MCU to date and Marvel Studios might want to take its cues...

Josh Keaton first lent his voice to Peter Parker in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series and he's since reprised the role in several video games (his animated Spidey also made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).
In recent years, Keaton has taken on the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in What If...? and X-Men '97. Hudson Thames, meanwhile, plays the titular wall-crawler in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

We're hours away from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's two-episode finale and Marvel Animation has just dropped a clip from the penultimate chapter, "Hero or Menace," featuring Spidey's classic red and blue costume.
After webbing up some of Big Donovan's gang, the wall-crawler comes face to face with Scorpion. The villain is now wearing a comic-accurate helmet to go with his suit, and this rematch promises to be epic after the beating Mac Gargan previously delivered to Spider-Man.

The hope among the vast majority of MCU fans is that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will finally cross paths with Charlie Cox's Daredevil in next year's Spider-Man 4 (Peter Parker and Matt Murdock only briefly crossed paths in Spider-Man: No Way Home).
Rumour has it Sony is more interested in another Multiversal tale. With the wall-crawler's next solo outing set to be released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, that's probably a safe bet.
Time will tell, but in a newly released clip from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we get a taste of what a Spider-Man vs. Daredevil battle could look like on screen. This is only part of their clash in tomorrow's sixth episode, though it's every bit as spectacular as we'd hoped.
Cox reprises his Daredevil: Born Again role as this Variant of the Man Without Fear, with Hudson Thames lending his voice to the web-slinger.

From the deep ties of The Web of Destiny, Marvel finally gives fans a new take on Spider-Man’s origin story with a show that reminds of a more nostalgic era. Spider-Man is the superhero with the most alternate versions, with a total number reaching more than 100 different iterations of the wall-crawler across all media. Some are similar to one another while others drastically diverge from the young projector of the borough of Queens, but each is unique in its own way telling the hero’s story in a distinctive and creative way. Although the MCU has gotten audiences used to Spider-Man being a multi-universal hero, The character didn’t really expand from the Queen’s borough in a significant way until the 1967 ‘Spider-Man’ animated TV series 5 years after the character’s first appearance in ‘Amazing Fantasy #15’. Even in other versions the webbed hero mostly stayed within their respective cities,...

Colman Domingo is having a good time after being a part of Marvel Studios’ Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man. With Hudson Thames, Charlie Cox, Kari Wahlgren, Hugh Dancy, and Grace Song lending their voice to the series, there is already a sense of intrigue amongst the fans.

Peter Parker hit the big time in last week's episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, donning a spectacular Oscorp suit created for him by Norman Osborn.
However, before showing off his new look as Spider-Man, the teenager was outfitted with three different identities by his mentor: Prodigy, Ricochet, and Dusk. They all flopped, but the series did a phenomenal job translating them from page to screen.
In a new TV spot for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, you can take a closer look at Spidey's short-lived suits in action. And, if you need a reminder of how things played out, our episode recaps can be found here.
Collider recently spoke to Spider-Man voice actor Hudson Thames and asked if the series diverging from the MCU gave him a little more creative freedom with how he portrayed the web-slinger.
"Totally, I kind of had to, there, there was a period in between What If.

New episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man just released, and they are taking the world by storm. What started as a prequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming evolved into its own unique tale set in a branching Marvel Cinematic Universe reality — allowing creators to have complete creative freedom to tell no shortage of exhilarating stories. The world-building feels natural and makes use of a great variety of iconic villains, every character has their own unique and meaningful arc, and Peter Parker helps New York citizens every chance he has. But if all of that wasn't enough, then we also have many fantastic Easter Eggs to look up to.
The first two episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are filled with no shortage of secrets, so it doesn't come as a surprise that their follow-ups kept the trend going. Fortunately, there's a lot to break down here: From sneaky references to popular bands such as Daft Punk,...

In the fourth episode of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker dons a costume made for him by Norman Osborn. His white Oscorp suit proves a hit but, when the teenager returns to Oscorp to thank his mentor, he inadvertently unmasks in front of Harry Osborn.
The McU's Spider-Man didn't guard his secret identity as closely as some fans would like, though this Variant at least seems to be trying to stop those closest to him from finding out he's a superhero.
Talking to Screen Rant, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell explained why Harry discovered Peter's big secret and how that's likely to play into their relationship moving forward.
"I think there's a part of it where it's really fun to delve into Norman as a mentor, but Norman as a mentor can't kind of be like your day-to-day guy because he is so busy, it would be a detriment to Oscorp.

Halfway through season 1 and "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" has been gladly drafting its supporting characters and villains from all corners of Marvel Comics. Peter Parker's (Hudson Thames) best friend Nico Minoru (Grace Song) is from "The Runaways," and his schoolboy crush isn't Mary Jane Watson or Liz Allan -- it's Pearl Pangan (Cathy Ang). In the comics, Pearl is a recently-introduced water-themed superhero named Wave. Time will tell if her animated self takes on that identity, or if Nico will become a sorcerer.
The people who do have super-abilities are the series villains, the latest one being Unicorn/Mila Masaryk. True to her name, she can blast an energy beam from a helmet she wears. In this version, the weapon is supplied by Doctor Otto Octavius (Hugh Dancy). Complementing the Unicorn imagery, Mila wears her hair in a mane-like mohawk.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man puts a new spin on many familiar faces, including Norman Osborn. Comic book fans will know him best as the Green Goblin, Spidey's greatest enemy and someone who Peter Parker can never truly trust (even when he's free of his darker half).
That doesn't mean this Marvel Animation series will head down that route, of course, but it seems inevitable that Norman will become the Goblin, whether it's later in season 1 or the recently confirmed second and third seasons.
Talking to Collider, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell discussed the decision to have Norman fill the role of Peter Parker's mentor and how he approached the preconceived notions fans are likely to have about the iconic villain.
"Yeah, so when you hear Norman Osborn is Peter Parker’s mentor, your mind immediately goes, this ain’t good. So, I think, you know, in crafting our Norman,...

The latest offering from Disney+ and Marvel Animation, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, is a new take on the fan-favorite web-slinger — completely separate from the Tom Holland version seen in live-action. While this version of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) is still in high school-like iterations we've seen before, his origin is a bit different from what audiences are accustomed to. Instead of Midtown High, Peter transfers to Rockford Bales High School, because during orientation, a portal-hopping fight with Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes), and a Venom variant wreaks havoc on the school, that also leaves behind a tiny spider that bites Peter, giving him those powers audiences know and love. During this battle, Peter stands up for a fellow student who, instead of the familiar guy-in-the-chair, Ned Leeds, Nico Minoru (Grace Song), becomesPeter’s best friend in this series.

Spidey has already squared off with Butane, but if the newly released teaser below is any indication, we'll soon see the wall-crawler battle everyone from Speed-Demon to Scorpion, and perhaps even Doctor Octopus. It also looks like the hero will go one-on-one with the Man Without Fear, Daredevil.

Apple TV+ has come a long way since its debut, when it was more of a nebulous idea than a fully functioning streaming platform. One of the service’s best comedies from those early days, the Emmy-nominated Mythic Quest, is still chugging along though. The show, which follows a group of coworkers at a video game studio, returns this week with a fourth season that proves the series is comfortable in its skin but is smartly evolving alongside its characters as they enjoy the fruits of their labor in an ever-changing video game landscape.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell shared the creative team’s original plans of introducing a teenage version of Jessica Jones. Marvel Studios’ newest Disney+ animated series is currently being led by Hudson Thames as the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, after initially voicing the hero during the first season of What If…?
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Trammell confirmed that before finalizing Nico Minoru’s inclusion in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, they originally considered introducing a younger version of Jessica Jones to become Peter Parker’s classmate. "There was another character that we considered. I don’t know if I can say," he said. "Well, I’ll say first that, yes, as we knew we were going to do something different. It was kind of like, for this story we want to tell, we need certain characters to fit these roles. And for me, I love Nico.

Marvel Animation has released a new trailer for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man offering a glimpse at what's to come throughout the remainder of the season this February.
In the minute-long sneak peek, Spidey battles Scorpion, Speed-Demon, and even Daredevil; unfortunately, what's proven to be a successful launch has been somewhat overshadowed in recent days.
Earlier this week, an excerpt from an interview with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man star Hudson Thames was published. In that, the actor was asked about the decision to introduce a diverse cast of characters from the hero's corner of the Marvel Universe.

When Jeff Trammell landed the job of creating Marvel Studios’ animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” (premiering today), he stepped into the most fertile creative period for the web-slinging superhero in his 63-year history. And yet, even between the multibillion-dollar live-action film series starring Tom Holland, the Oscar-winning animated “Spider-Verse” film series and the bestselling “Spider-Man” video game series, Trammell wasn’t all that fazed by the prospect of somehow making his Spider-Man stand out.
“Now that I think about it, I’m like, well, was I worried?” he says via Zoom from Los Angeles. “Honestly, I think it was just excitement to dig into this world, because I love the character so much.”
It’s evident from just a quick scan of the framed Spider-Man art adorning Trammell’s home how central the character is to his life. As a kid growing up in the 1990s, he was so...

Spoilers ahead for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" episode 1, "Amazing Fantasy."
"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" faces the unenviable task of once again explaining how Spider-Man (voiced here by Hudson Thames) came to be. The webslinger's tragic origin has been revisited roughly as often as Batman's, so the fact that the show focuses on Peter Parker's early superhero days may have caused seasoned Marvel aficionados to roll their eyes in preemptive exasperation for having to sit through yet another radioactive spider bite and the death of Uncle Ben. Fortunately, "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" not only aces its version of the hero's origin story, but does it so well that its episode 1, "Amazing Fantasy," should be required viewing for all superhero showrunners.
After briefly introducing the main character as a chronically late teen who's about to start in a prestigious school, "Amazing Fantasy" gives viewers a gloriously efficient CliffsNotes version of his superhero...

This article contains spoilers for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" episodes 1 and 2.
The alternate-universe Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" lives in a world that has plenty of superheroes and villains, but there's a chance that viewers won't even realize just how many of them are running around on this version of Earth. The show practically throws Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) at its audience, while the alien Strange fights (Kellen Goff) is carrying a distinctly Venom-like symbiote. Likewise, Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) and his son Harry (Zeno Robinson) both turn up with sartorial allusions to their respective Green Goblin personas. This universe's version of Curt "The Lizard" Connors, Dr. Connors (Zehra Fazal), is also quite recognizable from her signature lab coat and missing arm.

Plot: An animated series that follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.
Review: Since Tobey Maguire swung through Manhattan in Sam Raimi’s 2002 film, we have had four major takes on Spider-Man’s saga in feature films, with dozens in animated form on the small screen. The recent What If…? series introduced a Tom Holland-esque take on Spider-Man that fans resonated with, leading to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the first official MCU series starring Peter Parker. Set in an alternate timeline from the Homecoming trilogy, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man boasts a nostalgiac look that harkens back to the original comics from Stan Lee and Steve Ditko while playing with elements introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to give us a version of the arachnid superhero that...

The reviews are in for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and they're so far overwhelmingly positive.
There are some complaints about the series not being quite as topical as X-Men '97, though that feels like an apples-and-oranges-type of comparison given how different that team's world is to Peter Parker's. The storytelling itself does receive a lot of praise, though.
Beyond that, the show's divisive visuals appear to have struck a chord with the majority of critics as has the fact the series takes its cues from the web-slinger's early adventures dreamed up by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
It's a little too soon for a definitive Rotten Tomatoes score for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man yet but, as we write this, it sits at a spectacular 100%. We'll see if that changes over the coming days; for now, you can read a roundup of verdicts from the trades and various entertainment websites below.

Marvel’s new Disney+ animated series, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” finds Peter Parker in an alternate timeline during his freshman year in high school. This results in some surprising interactions: Pete befriends goth girl Nico Minoru (Grace Song) from The Runaways comics at Midtown School of Science and Technology and partners on a school project with football star Lonnie Lincoln (Eugene Byrd), who later becomes supervillain Tombstone. In addition, he’s bitten by a spider falling out of a portal during a fight between Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) and Venom, and he’s mentored by Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) instead of Tony Stark.
These twists are part of a retcon subversion from head writer and executive producer Jeff Trammell (“Craig of the Creek”). “It was definitely our goal to create something that felt very new and very fresh,” he told IndieWire. “This isn’t a Spidey in space story.

Spoilers for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" to follow.
Who is Peter Parker's best friend? Harry Osborn? Ned Leeds? Johnny Storm? According to the new animated series "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man," it's — Nico Minoru? If you're a casual Marvel fan, you might be thinking: who? Now, Nico is an established Marvel character, but not one who is usually connected to Spider-Man. So why use her? And what can her role in the series so far answer about that?
"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or at least not the so-called "Sacred Timeline." As executive producer Brad Winderbaum has explained, putting the show in the MCU continuity would've been too restrictive.
That said, the show is still using the MCU as a foundation. Peter (Hudson Thames) and Aunt May (Kari Wahlgren) are drawn to resemble Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei,...

He does whatever a Spider can, and he's back to do it all again in a brand new adventure for the Disney Plus streaming service. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a new animated series produced by Marvel Studios (through its Marvel Animation banner) and it looks into the origins of our favorite webslinger. It's not set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it spotlights the origins of a Peter Parker variant, but it is set to make itself at home among the other acclaimed animated shows Marvel has added to its line-up.
The adventures begin for this Spidey in the show that was formerly called Spider-Man: Freshman Year but how do they ultimately pan out? Let's dive into the events of the first episode, recapping it along the way and explaining how the ending sets up the rest of the series.
With that in mind, let's swing right into Peter Parker's newest story.
