James Laurence Olivier was born in London to Bettina, the daughter of a French diplomat and John, a British businessman. He is not related to Laurence Olivier although his parents gave him his middle name as a tribute to the great actor.
James studied business in London and Paris before moving to Australia to embark upon a career in acting. He performed and toured with the Melbourne French Theatre Company before returning to Europe to further his career and train with the Impulse Company in London. After several film roles in the UK and France, he turned his attention to writing, teaming up with long-time friend and creative partner, director Serge Ioan Celebidachi. Together they penned multiple screenplays, including the award winning Octav (2017) (2017), Shadow's Light (aka "Shadow's Light") and the forthcoming The Yellow Tie (2025), starring John Malkovich.
