After Tech Issues, Carrie Underwood Performs A Cappella at Inauguration Ceremony
Image
Country singer Carrie Underwood was forced to pivot to an a cappella performance during Monday’s inauguration of President Donald Trump due to audio problems.

The former American Idol winner took the stage following Trump’s inaugural address to perform a rendition of “America The Beautiful” with the Armed Forces Chorus. Standing on stage in silence for over a minute, it became clear there were audio problems in the room. A beat of music began before quickly cutting out.

Underwood told the crowd “if you know the words help me out here” before opting to sing the song a cappella. The crowd, including outgoing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, joined her, singing along to the patriotic song. Following her performance, Underwood greeted both Biden and Trump, who both appeared to share encouraging messages.

It was announced last week that Underwood would perform at the inauguration, sparking shock,...

Snoop Dogg Blasted for Performing at Crypto Ball Ahead of Donald Trump Inauguration
Image
Rapper-turned-mogul Snoop Dogg is feeling the heat for performing at the Crypto Ball, an event in Washington D.C. preceding Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration.

When video surfaced of the rapper performing at the Friday night event, held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium and hosted by former PayPal COO David Sacks, fans expressed anger and shock online. The Shade Room posted a video of Snoop — along with Rick Ross and Soulja Boy — on stage performing, and the comments section was filled with outrage over The Voice judge’s decision. “This is culturally embarrassing and disrespectful asf,” one reaction read. “Not a check in the world worth selling my soul to the Devil…” another commenter remarked.

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon covered the performance on his live stream, Lemon Live at 5, wondering aloud whether Snoop and other Black hip hop artists are “sellouts [or] grifters who only care about a dollar?...

Here Are All the Songs in ‘Babygirl’
Image
“Babygirl” is here, and it’s not just a sexy, surprisingly funny film, it’s got a fantastic soundtrack, too. From “Bodies Bodies Bodies” director Halina Reijn, the erotic dramedy stars Nicole Kidman as an accomplished CEO and loving family woman who risks it all for a power-play affair with a young intern (Harris Dickinson) at her company.

From Christmas parties to Edm night clubs to a private dance set to George Michael, “Babygirl” tracks a lot of their affair through the music, creating a great soundtrack in the process. So much so that “Father Figure” was specifically namedropped in the first draft of the script. It also features the first new song from Sky Ferreira in two years — and her first independent release since Capitol Records dropped her in 2023 — with the film’s original track, “Leash.”

Here’s your guide to all the songs on the “Babygirl” soundtrack:

Miley Cyrus Covers “Psycho Killer” for Talking Heads Tribute Album: Stream
Image
The Talking Heads Tribute album Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense has arrived today, and it begins with a cover of “Psycho Killer” from none other than Miley Cyrus.

The album, announced by A24 Music back in January in the wake of Stop Making Sense’s 40th anniversary re-release, features renditions of the film’s original 16 tracks. Paramore kicked things off with their cover of “Burning Down the House,” Lorde reimagined “Take Me to the River,” The National covered “Heaven,” and girl in red tackled “Girlfriend Is Better.”

Other contributions come from Cyrus, Kevin Abstract (“Once in a Lifetime”), Teezo Touchdown (“Making Flippy Floppy”), Blondshell (“Thank You For Sending Me an Angel”), The Linda Lindas (“Found a Job”), Badbadnotgood and Norah Jones (“This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)”), and more. girl in red Covers Talking Heads’ “Girlfriend Is Better”: Stream
Image
girl in red has shared her cover of Talking Heads’ “Girlfriend Is Better,” from the upcoming A24 compilation album, Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense.

Reimagining the funky arrangement of 1983 original in a post-nu-disco setting, girl in red’s take on “Girlfriend Is Better” sees the Norwegian pop star emphasize the song’s grooviest elements while updating it for a modern palette, with an electronic soundscape and heavy-hitting bottom end. Stream the single below.

Along with the single’s arrival, A24 has revealed the full tracklist and release date for Everyone’s Getting Involved. Due on May 17th (and now available to pre-order), the album will span 16 songs, including Miley Cyrus’ cover of “Psycho Killer,” Kevin Abstract’s cover of “Once In a Lifetime,” Badbadnotgood and Norah Jones’ cover of “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody),” and more. Harold Halibut Review: An Absolutely Gorgeous, If Frictionless, Walking Simulator
Image
One glance at Harold Halibut’s eye-catching stop-motion aesthetics is enough to sell you on the vibe of this peculiar adventure game. But though it walks and talks with the swagger of Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, the decision from developers Slow Bros. to tell this story in an interactive medium is a deadly one. Harold Halibut dabbles in many things—Kafkaesque scenarios, capitalist critiques, alien philosophies—but the one thing it intentionally eschews are puzzles. And the result is a frictionless walking simulator.

It’s no accident that Harold Halibut begins on Day 18250 A.C. (after crash) with your eponymous character being hauled into the All Water offices by the local constable. Harold is drowning in the rules and regulations of the shipwrecked and submerged Fedora (Federation of Residents in Airspace), and every day is much the same tedious slog as the last. “Only boring people get bored,...

Lorde Reimagines “Take Me to the River” for Talking Heads’ Tribute Album: Stream
Image
In January, A24 Music shared Paramore’s cover of “Burning Down the House” as the lead single from their forthcoming Talking Heads tribute album. Now, another teaser single from the compilation has arrived: Lorde’s cover of “Take Me to the River.”

Originally written by Al Green, “Take Me to the River” was a bit of an unlikely Talking Heads cut, since David Byrne was apprehensive about recording a cover. Nonetheless, the band’s 1978 version made it onto their album More Songs About Buildings and Food, and has since become a beloved slice of their inventive sound.

Lorde has accompanied her cover with a lengthy note in which she reminisces about her first time hearing Talking Heads and the impact it had on her creatively. You can read it in full below.

Paramore Unveil Cover of “Burning Down the House” from A24’s Stop Making Sense Tribute Album
Image
Earlier this month, A24 announced a Stop Making Sense tribute album honoring the 40th anniversary of Talking Heads’ seminal film and soundtrack. Now, the first single — a cover of “Burning Down the House” by Paramore — and the full roster of artists involved have arrived.

Titled Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, the 16-track album will mirror the tracklist of the 1984 original (which was just re-released itself). Joining Paramore on the lineup will be: Lorde, The National, Miley Cyrus, The Linda Lindas, Toro y Moi, Kevin Abstract, Badbadnotgood, Chicano Batman, Blondshell, The Cavemen, DJ Tunez, El Mató a un Policía Motorizado, girl in red, Jean Dawson, and Teezo Touchdown.

The specifics as to which artist will be covering which song has yet to be released, as has the actual release date itself. Paramore announced their involvement with the project earlier this month, sharing a preview...

Paramore Put on the Big Suit for ‘Burning Down The House’ Talking Heads Cover
Image
Paramore released their take on Talking Heads’ hit single “Burning Down the House” on Tuesday as part of a forthcoming Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense tribute album.

The cover features frontwoman Hayley Williams belting out “Strange but not a stranger/I’m an ordinary guy/Burning down the house,” and taking on the iconic song that David Byrne once called “an expression of liberation, to break free from whatever was holding you back.” (Bryne also noted the lyrics had “no logical, linear connection,...

Leading up to the Grammy nominations on Nov. 10, Rolling Stone is breaking down 16 different categories. For each, we’re predicting the nominees, as well as who will (and who should) win on Grammy night.

Sza is in the foreground of what the Grammys has dubbed “Progressive R&b” — R&b with deep and palpable influence from other genres, including rap, rock, and electronic music. (Many people have called this subgenre “alternative R&b.”) The Best Progressive R&b Album Grammy replaced Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2020; racial justice advocacy following...

Turnstile and Badbadnotgood Surprise Release Collaborative EP New Heart Designs: Stream
Image
Turnstile and Badbadnotgood have surprise released a collaborative EP titled New Heart Designs.

The three-song EP includes re-imaginings of tracks from Turnstile’s acclaimed 2021 album Glow On: “Mystery,” “Alien Love Call” (featuring Blood Orange), and “Underwater Boi.” Along with the EP’s release, Turnstile have shared a companion video containing all three songs that was shot and edited by Alex Henery.

Sonically, the tracks are mostly based on Badbadnotgood’s interpretation of the arrangements. The big chords and slam-dance inducing rhythms of the originals are replaced with lush jazz instrumentation — per Badbadnotgood’s general M.O. — with the vocals of Turnstile’s Brendan Yates layered on top.

Far from mere remixes, these takes almost sound like entirely different songs, and they should appeal to fans of either band.

Meanwhile, Turnstile have a series of UK/European shows and festival appearances on the horizon, followed by US festival slots at Riot Fest,...

Thundercat wins Grammy Award for best Progressive R&b album ‘It Is What It Is’
Image
It Is What It Is is Stephen Lee Bruner's fourth album as Thundercat and features the singles 'Black Qualls', 'Dragonball Durag', 'Fair Chance' and viral hit 'Funny Thing'. Joined by a stellar cast of musical friends – Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Lil B, Kamasi Washington, Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington, Badbadnotgood, Louis Cole, Pedro Martins and Zack Fox – the record was produced by Thundercat and his longtime partner Flying Lotus who was Grammy-nominated in 'Producer of the Year, Non-Classical' for his work on the album.

Silly, sentimental and serious – often all at the same time – "This album is about love, loss, life and the ups and downs that come with that," Bruner says. "It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but at different points in life you come across places that you don't necessarily understand… some things just aren't meant to be understood." The record is dedicated to his close friend Mac Miller who...
