Jenna Ortega Thinks She Auditioned for Zendayas Role in Dune
Image
Jenna Ortega's stardom has risen drastically in recent years following her starring roles in major franchises like Scream, Wednesday, and soon, Beetlejuice. But the actress recalls that she nearly added a monolithic sci-fi franchise to the list... Dune. Jenna Ortega is set to star in Tim Burton's long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Following on from her iconic performance in Wednesday, Ortega is becoming synonymous with gothic roles, but had she earned the part she auditioned for years ago, the actress could have become a staple of modern sci-fi movies.

Jenna Ortega sat down with Buzzfeed to undertake the Puppy Interview about her upcoming role in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, alongside Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Bellucci. During the conversation, Jenna Ortega revealed that she auditioned for Denis Villeneuve's Dune in 2016. The actress said the audition was shrouded in mystery, and she wasn't outrightly...

Camille Griffin
TIFF Review: Silent Night is a Blunt Christmas Comedy That Pulls No Punches
Camille Griffin
The easiest way to make sure your child actors are up to swearing on-screen is casting your own. That’s exactly what first-time feature writer/director Camille Griffin does for her film Silent Night—and it’s with good reason. Art (Roman Griffin Davis) and twins Thomas (Gilby Griffin Davis) and Hardy (Hardy Griffin Davis) have made a pact with their parents (Keira Knightley’s Nell and Matthew Goode’s Simon) to say whatever comes to their mind without fear of punishment or retribution since they’re all going to die anyway. Rather than some hyperbolic, progressively laissez faire parenting tactic, however, this sentiment is fact. Everyone on Earth is literally going to die. Some already have. Some will soon. And Nell, Simon, and the boys will have their turn tomorrow. On Christmas day.

Grab the wine, steal some pudding, and prepare yourself for the most awkward holiday fun you...

‘Silent Night’ Toronto Film Festival Review: Keira Knightley Leads Fine British Ensemble In Not-So-Merry Christmas Movie
Image
‘Tis the season. Well almost. And perhaps that is why AMC+ and Rlje recently swooped in and took the new holiday-themed dramedy Silent Night off the market (domestically at least) before its Toronto International Film Festival premiere tonight. Who doesn’t love a good ‘ol Christmas movie, perhaps the most reliable genre for feel good feelings?

Well this one certainly is a twist on the tradition as it centers on a gathering of British upper crust family and friends as they settle down for their holiday dinner knowing it is going to be the last dinner of their lives. With a deadly cloud coming in to slowly make its way presumably across the world, it is now heading directly toward the impressive English estate of Simon(Matthew Goode) and wife Nell (Keira Knightley) who have invited a group of merry makers over for their final night on earth as the...

‘Silent Night’ Film Review: Brits Gather for One Last Christmas Before the Apocalypse
Camille Griffin
In “Silent Night,” first-time writer-director Camille Griffin wickedly weaves together holiday-movie and end-of-the-world–movie tropes, but once the shock of that juxtaposition wears off, we’re left with a slightly underboiled pudding, despite a sharp ensemble’s most valiant efforts.

Part “When the Wind Blows” (the grim 1986 animated feature about Brits keeping calm and carrying on in the face of nuclear disaster) and part “Peter’s Friends” (Kenneth Branagh’s 1992 comedy about school chums gathering in a big house for the holidays to drink too much and open old wounds), “Silent Night” assembles a group of family and friends to celebrate Christmas — only at midnight, Santa isn’t coming. Instead, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are scheduled.

Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode) are hosting Christmas in their charming country home, and as usual they’ve invited their closest friends: upper-class twits Tony and Sandra, abrasive Bella and her soft-spoken girlfriend Alex,...

Film News Roundup: Tom Holland-Daisy Ridley’s ‘Chaos Walking’ Gets 2021 Release Date
Tom Holland
In today’s film news roundup, Tom Holland-Daisy Ridley’s “Chaos Walking” will open next year, Sophia Lillis and Charlie Plummer have landed roles, and Lily-Rose Depp has joined Christmas film “Silent Night.”

Release Date

Lionsgate has set its long-delayed science-fiction movie “Chaos Walking,” starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, for a Jan. 22, 2021, opening.

“Chaos Walking” was originally set to launch on March 1, 2019, but reshoots forced Lionsgate to push back the opening. Doug Liman directed the film, based on Patrick Ness’ “Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go,” a book that was published in 2008 as the first in a trilogy set in a dystopian world where all living creatures can hear each other’s thoughts.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Joe Drake told analysts Thursday that he was bullish on the project. “We’ve two of our biggest stars on the planet today leading,” Drake added.
