The air in K-Pops! is thick with rhythm, a cinematic space defined by an energetic pulse from its opening frames. It introduces Bj, a musician of palpable talent whose career has settled into the comfortable stasis of a Los Angeles dive bar. His charisma is a bright, undeniable force, yet his ambitions have long been stalled, confined to the same stage night after night.
A sudden opportunity offers an escape from this loop: a plane ticket to Seoul and a steady gig as the house drummer for “Wildcard,” a televised K-pop competition of significant popularity. The film then arranges its pieces around a wildly improbable turn of events.
Amid the polished spectacle of the show, Bj discovers that a young, hopeful contestant is the son he never knew existed, a living secret from a romance that ended a dozen years prior. This revelation sets the film’s main action in motion,...

When Bruno Mars Was Busted for Drugs at the Peak of His Debut (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Before the silk shirts, stage lights, and Grammy speeches, Bruno Mars had a not-so-glam moment that could’ve flipped his whole rise. Back when his voice was just starting to blow up speakers worldwide, a wild Vegas night nearly messed up the momentum. Most fans never even clocked it.
When Bruno Mars was Caught With Cocaine
In 2010, around the same time Doo-Wops & Hooligans was breaking into the charts, Bruno Mars (whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez) got picked up by cops in Las Vegas. According to Billboard, they found him holding a little over 2.6 grams of coke in a restroom at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Instead of dragging it out, he took the deal. The singer owned up in court, joined a rehab-style learning program. He also spent 200 hours giving back through...

After multiple editing delays, Mariah Carey has finally dropped the music video for “Type Dangerous,” her first original solo song since 2019’s “In the Mix,” the theme song to the short-lived ABC sitcom Mixed-Ish. The video for the new single was directed by Joseph Kahn, who previously worked with Carey on her videos for 2003’s “Boy (I Need You)” and 2013’s “#Beautiful.”
Co-produced by Anderson Paak and based around a sample from Eric B. & Rakim’s debut single, “Eric B. Is President,” from 1987, “Type Dangerous” is a midtempo R&b track that finds Carey shading her past lovers, including Tommy Mottola, whom she divorced in the late 1990s and not-so-diplomatically refers to as “an evil king” in the lyrics. The song is the singer’s first solo Top 10 hit on the R&b chart since 2008’s “Touch My Body.”

Bustling at a colorful intersection of music, family and identity, Anderson .Paak’s filmmaking debut “K-Pops!” is an instantly likable affair. You don’t really have to know anything about the global phenom of Korean popular music (or K-pop) to appreciate this jubilant gem’s celebration of generational ties and upbeat rhythms. Also the star of the film, Grammy-winning musician .Paak and his cast are so effortlessly magnetic that they will have you gently tapping your foot and rooting for their on-screen quests before you know it.
Co-leading the film’s charming ensemble is .Paak’s own son, Soul Rasheed, in a story (co-written .Paak and Khaila Amazan) loosely inspired by their real-life father-son relationship. .Paak is on the record about his experience during the quarantine days of the pandemic, a period that strengthened and deepened his connection with Soul. Knowing this only further sweetens the frothy flavors of “K-Pops!

For a company that rarely does anything quietly, over the past decade Live Nation’s film and TV division has been developing a formidable slate of music-related documentaries and scripted content in a very under-the-radar way. But it’s making a big splash at this week’s Tribeca Film Festival with five titles: Miley Cyrus’ “Something Beautiful,” a visual companion to her new album; the harrowing redemption story “Billy Idol Should Be Dead”; Ty Dolla $ign’s “Still Free Tc,” about the R&b artist working to get his brother released from prison; Becky G’s “Rebbeca”; and the scripted project ”K-Pops,” which was written, directed and stars Anderson .Paak.

How does a star decide to collaborate with a famous brand? Is the “yes” rooted in how large or small their role will be, the size of the paycheck or how dazzled they might be by the brand’s reputation?
For Tilda Swinton, it’s about ensuring the experience feeds her limitless curiosity, which she says informs and determines every project. “It feels very natural to me and, in a way, very much a similar formula [to signing on for a film],” Swinton told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview on Friday in London. “There’s no difference between this and getting into a conversation with [writer-director] Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a long-gestating conversation that after 17 years ended up in a movie called Memoria. In life you encounter people that you have inspiring and slightly unfinished conversations with, those conversations keep going, and you just want to be with them.”

It’s only April, but 2025 has already been quite a year for Kendrick Lamar.
In February, the rapper took home five Grammys for his 2024 song “Not Like Us.” He followed that up in epic fashion by performing during halftime at Super Bowl Lix.
Earlier this month, he launched a world tour with frequent collaborator Sza, and the duo is already shattering earnings records.
Needless to say, no emcee on the planet is dominating the game quite like Kendrick at the moment.

And this new level of success has many fans wondering what K-Dot’s bank account is looking like.

Is The Voice Season 27 the best in years? Possibly, with this year producing some of the highest-quality contestants across the board in recent memory. Although the current season has only entered the famous Battle Rounds so far, there is no denying just how awe-inspiring the array of vocal performances to date have been. In fact, never before have the jobs of the four coaches, Kelsea Ballerini, Adam Levine, Michael Bublé, and John Legend, been less envious, as the industry veterans face nigh-on impossible decisions following every battle.
The latest episode was full to the brim, yet again, with memorable performances. Ballerini's free spirits, Iris Herrera and Simone Marijic, opened the night to great success, with the likes of Robert Hunter and Page Mackenzie singing Morgan Wallen's "Lies, Lies, Lies," and Adam David and Ricardo Moreno stunning the crowd. However, perhaps the night's best performance came from the duo of Dimitrius Graham and Divighn,...

Variety reports that a movie musical directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) about Pharrell Williams’s childhood has been scrapped in post-production and will not be released.
The film, titled Golden, was slated to be released by Universal Pictures and features a cast which includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak, and Jaboukie Young-White. While it’s rare for a studio to scrap a movie at this stage of development, this isn’t like Warner Bros. shelving Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme for tax purposes. Instead, the film, titled Golden, was shut down after “unanimous agreement from producers and Gondry that the film did not live up to its developed conceit.“

Golden (fka Atlantis), Michel Gondry’s movie musical on the childhood of musician Pharrell Williams, has been scrapped in post-production, Deadline has confirmed.
Previously dated by Universal for a wide theatrical release on May 5, the film will never see the light of day, as it’s not being shopped.
In a statement shared with Deadline, Gondry and Williams attributed the decision to axe the project to their inability to fulfill the vision with which they had set out.

A star-studded movie musical about the childhood of Pharrell Williams has been permanently shuttered and will not see release in any capacity, Variety can report exclusively.
The project in question is “Golden,” originally titled “Atlantis,” and was directed by Michel Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”). It was set for wide theatrical release from Universal Pictures on May 5, though sources said that date was pushed internally last year. It boasts a heavyweight cast of chart toppers and an Oscar winner, including: Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Brian Tyree Henry, Janelle Monáe, Missy Elliott, Quinta Brunson, Anderson .Paak and Jaboukie Young-White.
Universal set up and financed the effort as part of their longstanding creative partnership with Williams (who is notably a composer and performer for the blockbuster “Despicable Me” franchise). Multiple sources told Variety that the project was shut down after unanimous agreement from producers and Gondry...

Janelle Monáe condemned Nelly on Sunday for the singer’s Trump inauguration performance.
Monáe rapped her comments during a Grammy afterparty, a TMZ video showed Monday, where she sang a cover of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre.”
“F—k you Nelly,” Monáe says in the bleeped video. “I used to like Nelly but then he went to perform for Donald Trump,” she continued. “Nelly, you sold out. I used to think he was cool, but now you look like a motherf—ing fool.”
Per TMZ, the impromptu performance was part of a medley of songs Monáe sang with Anderson .Paak, who co-owns the West Hollywood bar where the party took place.
Nelly faced backlash for his performance at Trump’s inaugural ball last month, but defended himself by saying the choice was not about politics. “I’m not out here trying to tell anybody who they should vote for,” he said.
