‘First Moon’ Official Trailer Searches for a Cure for the Werewolf Virus
Image
If lycanthropy is a virus, can it be cured? That’s the premise behind writer/director Peter McLeod’s indie First Moon, which looks to mix the werewolf and exorcism subgenres.

Check out the First Moon official trailer below, debuted by Coming Soon today.

First Moon will be howling onto VOD platforms on May 6, 2025.

In the film, “A waitress is abducted by a religious cult, who are hell-bent on curing her from a werewolf virus – or killing her in the process. Will she escape before her first full moon?”

Lauren Esposito (The Conjuring 2) stars alongside Julian Curtis and Shannon Ryan.

“We all agree that werewolves are monsters,” McLeod said. “I wanted to delve into the idea of what makes someone monstrous. We vilify people in the real world easily, but psychologically, if you dig down far enough, very few people are truly evil. They’re just damaged.”

First Moon...

The Red Shoes: Next Step review – corny ballet-themed drama can bust a move
Juliet Doherty
This drama about an underdog-understudy forced to clean studios has real ballet dancers but the story is less realistic than Angelina Ballerina

This saccharine drama pivots around aspiring ballerina Sam (Juliet Doherty), who we meet as she is about to go on stage to dance in a production of The Red Shoes (presumably a version of the Matthew Bourne ballet-drama). But in one of those dramatic twists of fate that would set even the Brothers Grimm’s eyes rolling, her sister Annie calls to wish her good luck seconds before she takes the stage – and then promptly gets hit and killed by a passing car.

Obviously, this rather ruins Sam’s big night, and she gives up on dancing altogether. She subsequently falls in with a teenage tearaway named Eve (Lauren Esposito) who, like Sam, is a young American living in Australia for reasons left inexplicably vague. A sequence of...

Full Trailer for 'The Red Shoes: Next Step' Dance Film from Australia
Image
"You have suffered a great loss... that's not the only story you have to tell." Screen has unveiled the official trailer for a dance movie titled The Red Shoes: Next Step, arriving in Australian cinemas this April. The title seems to be a reference to Powell & Pressburger's classic ballet film The Red Shoes (from 1948), though that seems to be an unofficial relation – it's not a real sequel. When Sam's world begins to spiral following an unexpected life-changing event, she must confront her emotions and her fears to reignite her deep love for dance. From the creators of the family fantasy adventure The Legend of the Five, The Red Shoes: Next Step stars dual gold dance medallist, American-Australian dancer Juliet Doherty in the lead role of Sam Cavanaugh, and The Conjuring 2's Lauren Esposito as her rebellious best friend Eve. Doherty danced in the hugely successful B.I.G. Ballet Galas recently.

‘It definitely raises tension’: How ‘The Red Shoes’ weathered the Sydney lockdown
Image
Filming coming-of-age dance feature The Red Shoes: Next Step was an exercise in thinking on your feet, according to producers.

Directors Joanne Samuel and Jesse A’hern began production on June 15, just prior to the beginning of restrictions that would lead them to reschedule daily timelines, change locations, reduce film crew, become subject to regular police visits, and even switch an entire dance group.

Despite these challenges, wrap date was only delayed a week, with filming finalised on July 23.

Executive producer Tanya Esposito, who also produces alongside A’hern, told If they were glad to be able to finish shooting before further restrictions were put in place.

“We finished just before the second group of LGAs was locked down, so it’s really tight now,” she said.

“It was a nightmare to shoot in as it was, and I probably wouldn’t recommend it at the moment unless you are in a locked-in studio location.

Joanne Samuel and Jesse A’hern put on ‘The Red Shoes’
Image
Directors Joanne Samuel and Jesse A’hern have commenced production in Sydney on a coming-of-age dance feature starring Juliet Doherty and Lauren Esposito.

The Red Shoes: Next Step follows dancer Sam Cavanaugh (Doherty), who is about to dance the lead in ‘The Red Shoes’ ballet when her older sister Annie, a brilliant dancer, is struck by a car while on Facetime with her.

Guilt-ridden, Sam quits the academy, returns to high school, runs wild with Eve (Esposito), and lands herself in community service, which requires her to clean studios at the academy, providing a constant reminder of the tragedy.

When Gracie, ‘The Red Shoes’ principal, is injured, Sam is pressed by her ballet teacher Ms Harlow to take over the role and dance with Ben, an old friend, long-time crush, and renowned dancer.

Supporting cast include professional ballet dancer Joel Burke, Carolyn Bock, Paris Opera Ballet dancer Primrose Kern, Meitta White,...

Peyton List Becomes a Coach in Comedy 'Swimming for Gold' Trailer
Johrel Martschinke, Peyton List, Daniel Needs, Lauren Esposito, and Olivia Nardini in Swimming for Gold (2020)
"Maybe there's middle ground between being a boot camp sergeant and a beach bum?" MarVista Ent. has released an official trailer for Swimming for Gold, a campy motivational sports romantic comedy from "Love Island" director Hayley MacFarlane. When US women's swim team hopeful Claire Carpenter's dad sends her to Australia to coach an elite boys swim team, Claire finds herself face to face with long-time rival Mikayla Michaels, and the news that the camp will close if the team loses the next meet. To save the camp, Claire must overcome a secret fear, put aside her differences with Mikayla, and rediscover her passion for swimming. Starring Peyton List as Claire, joined by Daniel Needs, Lauren Esposito, Olivia Nardini, Johrel Martschinke, Ray Chong Nee, Martin Dingle Wall, and Candice Hill. This looks as cheesy as any movie can be, with every last romcom trope and cringe-worthy bit of dialogue they could squeeze in.

‘The Personal History of David Copperfield.’

The floodgates opened last weekend with more than a dozen new releases led by The Personal History of David Copperfield, plus several re-issues as more cinemas turned the lights back on.

However the grosses per title reflect the “new normal,” with limited seating capacity and reduced sessions.

The safe distancing rules mean there is a cap of 20 people per session in Victoria, between 20 per cent and 45 per cent in New South Wales and 50 per cent in South Australia.

The top 20 titles racked up nearly $2.5 million, up 251 per cent on the previous frame, according to Numero.

Australian Fantasy Family Film 'The Legend of the Five' Official Trailer
Nicholas Andrianakos, Gabi Sproule, Leigh Joel Scott, Lauren Esposito, Lola Bennett, and Deborah An in The Legend of the Five (2020)
"Do you really think that five children would stand against the end of the world?" FilmInk in Australia has debuted an official trailer for an Australian fantasy adventure family film titled The Legend of the Five, marking the feature directorial debut of actress Joanne Samuel (she played Jessie in the original Mad Max movie!). This looks very much like a fun-for-all-ages kind of fantasy story, campiness and all. When a group of misfit teenagers encounter an ancient relic during a school trip to a museum, they find themselves caught up in a magical world, with elemental powers beyond their belief, and the responsibility of stopping an age old evil from destroying the world. The movie stars Lauren Esposito, Gabi Sproule, Leigh Joel Scott, Nicholas Andrianakos, Deborah An, Beth Champion, and Tiriel Mora. This seems like it's straight out of the 90s, but that may be a good thing considering the...

‘The Conjuring 2′ Review
Stars: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Madison Wolfe, Frances O’Connor, Lauren Esposito, Benjamin Haigh, Patrick McAuley, Simon McBurney, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Simon Delaney, Franka Potente, Bob Adrian | Written by Carey Hayes, Chad Hayes, James Wan, David Leslie Johnson | Directed by James Wan

The term “master of horror” is one that gets thrown around a little too loosely sometimes, but there are a precious few filmmakers who very much embody that prestigious label. If he didn’t achieve that status prior to 2013, James Wan sure did with the release of The Conjuring. The film, touted by many as Wan’s masterpiece, was indeed quite masterful, and with it the Aussie filmmaker brilliantly set the stage for a franchise built around the case files of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

In the wake of spinoff film Annabelle, the Warrens are back.

“The Conjuring 2” is one of the better horror sequels in a long time
A few years ago, The Conjuring came more or less out of nowhere to scare the pants off of people and become a certified horror movie blockbuster. Obviously, a sequel was commissioned, and that film, The Conjuring 2, is now hitting cinemas across the world. Director James Wan, an official master of horror at this point, as well as leads Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, lent weight to the demonic tale the first time around and now are back. This seems set to be a big hit, and folks, I can happily report that it’s the rare horror sequel that actually is high quality. Rejoice! The film is a sequel to The Conjuring, as you might have guessed. It once again follows Ed Warren (Wilson) and his wife Lorraine (Farmiga), as they help a family deal with a haunting. This time, it’s in England, where a single mother...

Review: The Conjuring 2 Is a Masterful, Terrifying Horror Movie
Director James Wan has done it again and created another horror movie masterpiece with The Conjuring 2. Wan has made one great movie after another, and it seems like he’s perfected the craft of bringing horrific and nightmarish stories to life on the big screen. Wan is one of my favorite directors working in Hollywood today because he has yet to disappoint me.

Judging from what I saw in the trailers for The Conjuring 2, I knew the movie was going to be solid. The first movie was a fantastic film, and I’ll admit, I was a little worried that this sequel wouldn't be as good and hit the bar that was set with the first film, but I’m happy to say that it did and even raised it!

One of my favorite things about what Wan does with his movies like this is the way he...

Bonnie Aarons and Madison Wolfe in Conjuring 2 : Le Cas Enfield (2016)
Review: James Wan bests his own best with 'The Conjuring 2'
Bonnie Aarons and Madison Wolfe in Conjuring 2 : Le Cas Enfield (2016)
At the end of James Wan’s The Conjuring, I had a big smile on my face at the thought of a studio building a smart and fun horror franchise using Ed and Lorraine Warren as the foundation, and tonight, after seeing The Conjuring 2, I am relieved to see that they got it absolutely right. The screenplay, credited to Carey Hayes & Chad Hayes & James Wan and David Leslie Johnson, is very smart about the way it opens with a seance in the Amityville house. Amityville is where the Warrens made their reputations as paranormal investigators, so it makes sense to eventually tell that story, but it’s also been made and re-made and told a dozen different ways. Instead of making the mistake of dedicating an entire film to it, they use it to set several story threads into motion and also to show how the Warrens were constantly...

The Conjuring 2 movie review: haunting only in its disjointed bulkiness
“Less Ed and Lorraine” and “more cheese and cardboard” is precisely the last direction a sequel to the classy original should have gone in. Yet here we are. I’m “biast” (pro): liked the first film, love Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

The first Conjuring movie, in 2013, distinguished itself in a genre full of cardboard characters and predictable jumpscares by approaching horror from a more psychologically incisive perspective than we’re used to seeing. The real-life “ghostbusters” Ed and Lorraine Warren were almost certainly con artists who duped the credulous, but the dramatized depiction of them in The Conjuring did at least make us feel that they believed, via the fantastic pairing of the always marvelous Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the couple, who were deeply warm and engaging. And the family whose...

Review: The Conjuring 2 is a Confident and Thrilling Return to Horror for James Wan
There’s no denying that as far as modern filmmakers go, James Wan is in a class of his own. For over the last 12 years, he’s been the driving force behind numerous great horror films (I’m even a sucker for his criminally underrated Dead Silence), and he even rose to the gargantuan challenge that came with helming last year’s Furious 7. And before he dives into the world of Aquaman, Wan returns to his cinematic roots this summer with a special treat for horror fans: a thrilling sequel to The Conjuring that’s even better than its incredibly well-made predecessor and proves that character-driven genre stories are still the best way to scare the pants off audiences.

Simply put, The Conjuring 2 might very well be the best horror movie we’ve seen from James Wan yet, marking a confident return to horror for the director who...

The Conjuring 2 Trailer Promises A First-Rate Frightfest
The Witch aside, the first few months of 2016 haven’t been kind to horror fans. From The Forest to The Boy, witless and largely worthless chillers have come and gone without leaving so much as a bad dream in their wake. So it’s relieving to get a jolting reminder of what good horror should look like with the first trailer for The Conjuring 2, James Wan’s much-anticipated follow-up to the 2013 frightener.

Expanding on the pitch-perfect teaser, the full-length preview (above) elegantly lays out the scary story on display this time around. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back in the roles of renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren – but while the first film was set in a haunted house in 1971 Rhode Island, the sequel finds them traveling to England on the trail of an elusive spirit called The Enfield Poltergeist. Of course, their quarry doesn’t want...

Terrifying New Trailer for James Wan's The Conjuring 2
I was already excited to see The Conjuring 2 before I saw this latest trailer, but this trailer takes the horrific insanity to a terrifying new level! The trailer premiered at WonderCon over the weekend and it scared the shit out of the people who were at the panel.

I loved the first movie, but this sequel looks like it's going to be even scarier! Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. In the sequel, they travel to London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by evil malicious spirits. This is known as The Enfield Poltergeist and one of her daughters was possessed by a dark demon from hell. This paranormal investigation has been described as The Amityville Horror of London.

The rest of the cast for the film includes Frances O’Connor (The Missing) as the mother,...

Trailer Trashin’: More Fact-Based Period Horror in The Conjuring 2 Teaser Trailer
Hello again, dear readers. I hope the year is off to a good start for all of you. It’s coming to you later than I intended, but here’s the first Trailer Trashin’ column of 2016. Now let’s take a look at the teaser trailer for director James Wan’s upcoming horror sequel The Conjuring 2.

Premise: Husband and wife paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

My take: Ever since I first saw The Conjuring (2013), it’s been one of my favorite horror movies. Inspired by the work of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, it was a smartly written, sharply directed film with good scares, a talented cast playing characters we actually cared about, and which made good use of its period 1970s setting.
