Steven Umbrello
Steven Umbrello currently serves as the Managing Director at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies and is also an IEET Advisory Board member. He studied philosophy of science and technology at the University of Toronto, ethics at the University of Edinburgh and STS at York University, Canada. Currently he is a doctoral student studying the philosophy of the digital world at the University of Turin, Italy.
Steven currently serves as a junior associate at the Global Catastrophic Risk Institute where his primary research and authorship is on atomically precise manufacturing (APM) and other nanotechnology. This research explores the extent and impacts that nanotechnology has on the environment, society as well as the military and surveillance. Particular emphasis is given to potential governing strategies of APM and how this can be applied to other emerging technologies.
