Imagine, if you will, standing in line for hours covered head-to-toe in full body paint, surviving on overpriced concession food, and shuffling through massive crowds for the fleeting chance to see Robert Downey Jr. wink mid-gum chew. For years, that was the mystique of Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. It wasn't merely a convention room; it was a modern-day coliseum, a rite of passage for the most committed pop culture devotees. Hall H once felt alive — a collective organism of cheers, gasps, and groans erupting in perfect synchronicity. For a few charged hours, before everyone stumbled out sweaty, overstimulated, and high on adrenaline, it was unfiltered nerd nirvana.
But in recent years, the roar has faded to a murmur. Marvel understandably forewent Hall H in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, missed it in 2023 due to the dual strikes, and recently announced that they'll sit out 2025 as well. The throne is vacant — or would be,...

Jon Stewart is in L.A. ahead of some FYC promotion for The Daily Show and he stopped by his old friend Jimmy Kimmel’s show to find out who’s stoned.
Stewart crashed the ‘Who’s High?’ segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where announcer Lou Wilson was helping the late-night host find out which member of the public on Hollywood Blvd. was stoned.
The Daily Show host, clad in a bandana, trapper hat and sunglasses, interrupted the segment and also a bus full of tourists. “I heard if you were high, you could win prizes,” Stewart said, before being gifted a bag of Funyuns. “I thought this was network,” he joked at the bag of chips.
Stewart, who appeared on the show last year to surprise Kimmel’s kids on the way to school, then wandered into the studio ahead of an interview with Seth MacFarlane, getting Funyuns everywhere.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Episode 1 of “Dimension 20: Cloudward, Ho!” streaming now on Dropout.
As one of “Dimension 20’s” regular cast members (a.k.a. “Intrepid Heroes”) Lou Wilson has played everything from a cyborg engineer to a foul-mouthed wooden puppet. But for the first time in nearly three years, “D20” fans meet a new Lou Wilson player character (PC) in “Dimension 20: Cloudward, Ho!” which hit indie streamer Dropout Wednesday.
The new series, which debuted just days after “Dimension 20’s” live show at the Hollywood Bowl, is an Indiana Jones-meets-Jules Verne-style adventure installment of the role-playing game TV show that follows the crew of an airship as they “Join forces and take to the skies in search of the missing Professor Comfrey MacLeod, [venturing] off to a fantastical world of machine wonders and perils known as Gath.”

For Brennan Lee Mulligan, juggling the many stories and skyrocketing popularity of his Dropout series “Dimension 20” comes down to two key things – “dissociation and compartmentalization.”
For the uninitiated, “Dimension 20” is a tabletop role-playing game series where a group of comedians and actors play through a story – usually using a “Dungeons and Dragons” ruleset, but not always. The format has ballooned in popularity over the years, with shows like “Critical Role” and podcasts claiming equally large fandoms.
“Dimension 20” and Mulligan kicked off 2025 with a bang in January by playing a live show at Madison Square Garden with the core players known as the Intrepid Heroes – Lou Wilson, Emily Axford, Brian Murphy, Siobhan Thompson, Ally Beardsley and Zac Oyama.
Now the show is prepping another bout of live shows starting with one at the Hollywood Bowl on June 1, while also premiering the next season for the Intrepid Heroes on...

For anyone who has made the sane decision to not have a podcast, Pro Tools is Avid’s audio editing suite and is the most common Daw (digital audio workstation) in use once you reach a certain level of production. It has all sorts of plugins to enhance or alter audio files and can mix in Dolby Atmos, if that’s your bag. It also has a limit of 1,024 discrete tracks to hold audio files in a single project. For one recent episode of the”Worlds Beyond Number” podcast, producer Taylor Moore hit the Pro Tools track limit. Twice.
“Worlds Beyond Number” is an audio actual play series currently concluding its first arc of fantasy tale “The Wizard, The Witch, and the Wild One,” before it transitions to a new setting for an as-yet-unnamed science-fiction story. But every two weeks for the past two years, players Aabria Iyengar, Erika Ishii,...

From the very first episode of “Game Changer” — in which players were confronted with a lie detector machine that was revealed to be under the control of their significant others — the show has played with making and breaking classic game show and comedy formats. The Dropout series has continually tried to “one-up” and “yes-and” itself over the course of its run. Looking toward Season 7 of “Game Changer” on an episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, the show’s host and mostly gentle dom Sam Reich wasn’t sure how “Game Changer” was going to keep topping itself.
The answers to that worry are starting to come in, now that Season 7 has opened with “One Year Later,” wherein Reich gives players Vic Michaelis, Lou Wilson, and Jacob Wysocki one calendar year to complete a series of tasks, ranging from keeping a sourdough starter alive to getting the most followers on a...

Before they made history playing a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, “Dimension 20” dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan and the intrepid heroes that star on the Dropout tabletop role-playing game TV series sat down with Variety for a game of “Most Likely To.”
While everyone agreed that all six players do their fair share of causing problems, Mulligan admitted there’s one intrepid hero with a particular aptitude for antagonizing the dungeon master:
“As the Dm, I’m pointing at a specific person that is right for me [Thompson],” Mulligan said. “I’ve only been told to ‘eat my fucking dice’ on camera by one person. If ‘antagonize’ is an active verb, I think it’s Siobhan.” Thompson, for her part, agreed wholeheartedly: “Oh yeah, I’m not antagonizing him, I’m actually bullying him.”

Madison Square Garden was sold-out and packed with screaming fans on Friday night, but it wasn’t for a Grammy-winning artist or New York sports team: It was a group of “intrepid heroes” who have taken over the world of Dungeons and Dragons.
Dimension 20, a group of D&d players who specialize in monster slaying and absurd improv on the streaming service Dropout, took Msg by storm for their first major live show, “Gauntlet at the Garden.” Led by their dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Dimension 20 crew, made up of Zac Oyama, Emily Axford, Lou Wilson, Brian Murphy, Ally Beardsley and Siobhan Thompson, revisited their popular NYC-inspired Unsleeping City campaign. However, D20 fans were in for a treat as surprise crossover characters from other games popped into the show after being influenced by random dice rolls from the audience. The Unsleeping City will awaken Friday night with a live version of Dropout’s “Dimension 20” at Madison Square Garden. The Dungeons-and-Dragons-actual-play-esque show will feature game master Brennan Lee Mulligan and his cast of “intrepid heroes”: Ally Beardsley, Brian “Murph” Murphy, Emily Axford, Lou Wilson, Siobhan Thompson and Zac Oyama.
As the team preps for the sold-out event, dubbed “Gauntlet at the Garden,” Mulligan breaks down his game plan for their first live show of this scale and how he’s constructed a new storyline within the New York City-set “Unsleeping City” season of “Dimension 20” that will involve the audience.
What’s your prep plan for the show?
Be with my wife and kiddo. I’m going to open up my laptop, go over notes, get my little D&d Beyond campaign open, go over my encounters, make sure all my stat blocks are good.

Back in my college days, I was a theatre performance major and became the first woman to serve as captain in the history of my underfunded state school's improv team (no one who reads /Film regularly is shocked), which meant I spent an excessive amount of time on YouTube consuming sketch clips and illegally uploaded episodes of "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" This fixation led me to the CollegeHumor channel and I became obsessed with a show called "Hello My Name Is." Each episode had Josh Ruben being transformed into a new character with prosthetics, wigs, and costumes, after which he would have to sit down for an improvised, in-character interview upon seeing the result. Nearly 15 years later, my college friends and I still quote a few of the episodes.

CBS Studios discusses potentially reviving the mockumentary show American Vandal after regaining rights. Fans have clamored for a third season ever since its cancellation. Creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda already have a game plan for the potential American Vandal Season 3,and are ready for when audience demand and timing align. American Vandal was a Peabody Award-winning comedy masterpiece that satirized true crime series and Gen Z.
Netflix's critically acclaimed mockumentary series, American Vandal, might be seeing a glimmer of hope for revival. The innovative comedy series enjoyed a warm reception, boasting a 98% approval rating from critics and 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes after its two-season run. A hilarious satire of true crime docuseries, social media, and Gen Z, American Vandal was the kind of artistically brilliant show that could spend an entire season focused on penis drawings and still be intelligent enough to win a Peabody Award.

"Misfits and Magic" features a compelling reimagining of Voldemort with a more complex character arc than in Harry Potter. Evan Kelmp's story subverts Voldemort's one-dimensional villainy, showing genuine growth and self-acceptance. The humorous and critical contrast to Harry Potter in "Misfits and Magic" highlights the potential for more nuanced character arcs.
Dimension 20's comedic riff on Harry Potter has a Dark Lord plot that's far more compelling than the storyline for Voldemort. Dropout's Ttrpg series, Dimension 20 largely functions as an anthology that hops around between stories from season to season. While some revisit characters and settings from previous parts of the series, with a rotating cast joining the one-off "Side Quests" that typically are expansions on previous seasons or well-known media archetypes. Among the best seasons of Dimension 20 is "Misfits and Magic," which dives into a world clearly designed to resemble the wizarding world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter.

An executive reveals that efforts have been made to revive American Vandal. CBS Studios is exploring the possibility of bringing back the show after it was originally cancelled. The cancellation was due to Netflix wanting to produce its own content.
American Vandal, the two-season Netflix comedy, gets a promising update more than five years after it was cancelled on Netflix. Created by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault and helmed by showrunner Dan Lagana, the story is presented as a parody of popular true-crime podcasts like Serial and Making a Murder. With an American Vandal cast that included Tyler Alvarez, Griffin Gluck, and Jimmy Tatro, the comedy was cancelled late in 2018 despite awards recognition and positive reviews. CBS Studios, one of the production companies behind the series, is hoping for a comeback.
In an interview with Deadline, the chances of an American Vandal revival get an honest update from CBS Studios President David Stapf.

Dimension 20, Dropout‘s Dungeons & Dragons show, is coming to Madison Square Garden for a night of live Ttrpg adventure.
Dimension 20: Gauntlet at the Garden will bring together the full D20 squad, including dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan and players Emily Axford, Ally Beardsley, Brian Murphy, Zac Oyama, Siobhan Thompson, and Lou Wilson, who’ve been dungeoning and dragoning together since 2018.
The show will be part of the group’s Unsleeping City campaign, which is set in a fictional (as far as we know…) and clandestine sixth borough of New York City that’s powered by magic and populated by supernatural residents. So, of course, it is appropriate that the event–which is Dimension 20‘s first U.S. live show since 2019–is also taking place in NYC.

After five months off the air, a staple of broadcast television is back. This week marks the return of late night following the conclusion of the WGA strike.
Just like the 2007-2008 writers’ strike, late night shows were the first to be impacted. The day after the WGA announced it was going on strike in May, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” all closed up shop. But unlike the strike from over a decade ago, the five biggest hosts in the game decided to work with each other instead of against one another.
Instead of the more icy relationships between late night hosts like David Letterman and Jay Leno during the last strike, Oliver, Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel and Meyers joined forces on a podcast, dubbed “Strike Force Five,” the...

The amount of versatility within a single premise is the test of a truly great game show. “Jeopardy” has the clues, “Match Game” has the risqué answers, and “Survivor” has the challenges. But maybe the most versatile game show on air right now — and going for the Emmy that “Jeopardy” has won the last three years running — is one where its entire DNA is based on being a radically different competition every episode.

Dropout.tv's Dimension 20 may not have the sprawling world of Critical Role, but it does have fascinating new locales with each season from a magical realism take on New York City to a horror-drenched fairytale world. At 24, Scott (Pete Davidson) is stuck in perpetual adolescence, living with his mother Margie (Marisa Tomei) in the Staten Island home where he grew up. Traumatized when his firefighter father was killed trying to rescue someone when Scott was seven, he has never recovered despite years of therapy and in fact, has built his persona around the trauma. His well-meaning, kind-hearted mother, an overworked ER nurse, has built her life around her son’s care, treating him as if he were a fragile patient. If fact, everyone seems to tip-toe around Scott as if he might break from his childhood trauma.
Scott himself embraces this view, dodging jobs and hanging out with high school pals Oscar (Ricky Velez), Igor (Moises Arias) and Richie (Lou Wilson), playing video games and smoking pot.

Art imitates life for Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson. The King of Staten Island is a slice of life dramedy about a maladjusted stoner's inability to cope with change. Set against the backdrop of New York City's most unheralded borough, the film's wonderful ensemble cast paints a vivid portrait of Staten Island's working class residents. The characters are funny, poignant, and endearing. Director Judd Apatow brings a deft touch until a somewhat contrived and melodramatic final act.
Pete Davidson stars as Scott Carlin, an unemployed twenty-four-year-old pothead with serious emotional problems. He lives with his doting mother, Margie (Marisa Tomei), and college bound sister, Claire (Maude Apatow). Scott's father was a fireman killed in the line of duty. The loss of his father as a child dominates Scott's psyche. He considers himself stupid and worthless. Scott spends his days getting high in a basement with low-level drug dealer friends.

Judd Apatow knows talent when he sees it. For years, he has made a career out of giving cinematic showcases to comedians. Whether it was Steve Carell in The 40 Year Old Virgin, Seth Rogen in Knocked Up, or Amy Schumer in Trainwreck, he’s shined the spotlight on them, launching the talented actors and actresses to A-list careers. He’s done it as a director, as well as a producer, making his stable of talent truly enviable. Now, he returns to directing with another effort that does just that. The King of Staten Island, like Trainwreck with Schumer, has a script written by its star (co-written here), based on real life. Here, it’s Pete Davidson, and his tragic childhood loss is the basis for a stunningly terrific work. Capturing the pain and the pathos, as well as the humor, that define Davidson, this is not just one of Apatow’s top tier efforts,...

Pete Davidson flounders and flails and tries to grow up in the new trailer for The King of Staten Island, which is set to hit on-demand services June 12th.
The new film, directed by Judd Apatow, is loosely based on Davidson’s own life: It finds him playing an unambitious 20-something named Scott with half-baked dreams about being a tattoo artist — plus, he still lives at home and spends most of his time smoking weed with his friends. He also still isn’t quite over the death of his firefighter dad 17 years prior.

Pete Davidson’s “The King of Staten Island” character isn’t much of a stretch for the “SNL” star. In the upcoming Judd Apatow flick, Davidson plays an inked-up young man whose firefighter father died in the early 2000s. Sadly, Davidson’s real-life dad, a first responder and a fireman, died on 9/11.
In the Apatow comedy, Davidson’s (mostly) ficticious Scott lives with his mom (Marisa Tomei) in the least-sexy borough of New York City. That location — and stage of life — should sound familiar to Davidson fans.

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Judd Apatow’s ‘The King of Staten Island’ featuring Pete Davidson.
Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. As his ambitious younger sister (Maude Apatow) heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Marisa Tomei) and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guy’s – Oscar (Ricky Velez), Igor (Moises Arias) and Richie (Lou Wilson) – and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey (Bel Powley).
But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter (Bill Burr), it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.

Universal released the trailer for Pete Davidson’s summer comedy, “The King of Staten Island” on Thursday, starring the “SNL” comedian in his first lead feature role.
The semi-autobiographical comedy, directed by Judd Apatow, incorporates elements of Davidson’s own life, including losing his firefighter father during the Sept. 11 attacks.
The film centers around Scott (Davidson), who has been a case of arrested development since his father died when he was 7. As his younger sister heads off to college, Scott, now in his mid-20s, spends his days smoking weed and giving his friends tattoos. It’s not until his mother starts dating a new man, Ray, whom Scott disapproves of, that he begins to finally confront his grief and reevaluate his life.
The trailer makes good use of Davidson’s and Apatow’s comedic backgrounds, showing Scott’s friends make fun of his disfigured tattoos and Scott bearing his...
