Heading into the seventh season of “All American,” series showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll was nervous. The pressure was on to make a dynamic and addicting series about a group of young people trying to achieve the impossible, only this time around, The CW original had to do it without their leading character, Daniel Ezra’s Spencer James.

“The challenge was, are we going to find characters that we care about?” Carroll told TheWrap. She was still anxious about whether or not this new installment would work right up until the point that Nathaniel McIntyre walked into his audition. “I’m just like, ‘Wait a minute. Oh, done. “All American” may have looked a little different when it returned for Season 7 on Jan. 29 — but it doesn’t feel different. That was the whole goal of creator and executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll who made the choice to shake things up in a big way.

“Daniel Ezra and I had talked about the plan for when we sort of felt Spencer’s journey was complete, and what that completion looked like. We went into Season 6, and I knew I was writing that as his final season. That was kind of the moment when I started to think, does the show wrap up then? But I thought no, there are so many amazing stories, so many characters whose journeys I’m still invested in, with the transition from young adulthood to adulthood for some of our other Og characters,” Carroll tells Variety.

BBC Film is revising its editorial team including new hires Kristin Irving and Anu Henriques, under the leadership of director Eva Yates.

Starting from November, Irving will take on the role of commissioning executive, with Henriques as development executive; while head of development Claudia Yusef is expanding her role across development and production, under the new title of commissioning executive.

A federal judge ruled that a Venezuelan businessman can move forward with his defamation lawsuit against Fox News and Lou Dobbs over claims that he was involved in rigging the 2020 presidential election.

U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton rejected the defendants efforts to dismiss the case, finding that the businessman, Majed Khalil, “adequately alleges that Fox may be held liable for the defamatory claims.” Read the opinion here.

Stanton’s decision means that the case can proceed, with a jury ultimately left to decide on the merits if it goes to trial.
